I'm glad you have benefited from the video. You will find a wealth of information about your machine on my web site: novamontgomery.com. I do not see that you purchased your belt from my online Shop. You can be assured of quality products appropriate for your Singer Featherweight through my online Shop. I'm always happy to help you with your machine.

I changed the belt without any problems, but the wheel doesn’t want to turn consistently. I can make the belt go easily by pulling on it but it won’t move the needle without strain on the motor.

It sounds like the belt is too tight...

What type of belt did you install? The original v-style (available through my online SHOP) are all that I would ever recommend. There are many problems with the "new" belts.

Thank you for your helpful tips!! I just purchased my 1951 featherweight from eBay and quite pleased with the overall condition, but there's a strong musty odor from the storage case which has permeated through the machine. Have you encountered this problem? Would love to hear some tips on eliminating the problem. Thank you!

Try this: place about a half dozen charcoal briquettes in a paper or plastic bag; simply lay it out in the case, no maintenance required.

i had to deal with a rusted, stuck screw, some wd-40 and some machine oil eventually allowed it to turn

I never recommend WD-40 for use on a Singer Featherweight. It can damage / remove the finish from your machine. You will find a wealth of information on my website (novamontgomery.com) regarding your machine and its care. I'm very glad you were able to loosen the screw, though!

Thank you for letting me know about the WD-40, I did clean it off right away and used the machine oil instead, there was no damage. The screw was very rusty but turned after sitting awhile with the oil on it.

Kerosene is a safe solvent to use to clean the mechanical parts of your machine.
