    Hey Jay here! Here is my favourite potstill; Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton,
    favourite single malt; Glendronach Allardice 18yo,
    favourite blend; Writers Tears Florio Marsala Cask Finish.
    What's yours?

      I bet if i let you taste 10 different whisk(e)ys with 7 singles and 3 blends. You will never know what is what and possibly one of the blends will be your lifetime favorite.
      There are great blends out there.

    Great video which gives a crash course of what goes into your whiskey. But the best whiskey is the one you prefer. There’s no right or wrong here. Try as many as you please and I’ll bet you’ll have at least one of each of single malt, an Irish triple distilled, a blended scotch, and a bourbon in your top 20.

    Fab video, very informative as always. Currently loving the Lakes Whisky Makers No1 & No2 expressions ... fab drams. Their The One Port Cask finish blend is a fabulous easy drinking whisky. Some great blends out there but at heart a single malt fan.

    I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy & it has really affected my taste buds (amongst other things🙄) - it has enabled me to experience whisky of all descriptions in a completely different way (& obviously purely for medicinal purposes 😏). I am currently enjoying an unchallenging bottle of Shackleton, which suits my palate at the moment 👍
    I visited the Jameson 'distillery' in Dublin & was quite impressed by the knowledge of the young lad who took us around - one thing that stuck with me was his comment that he didn't really care what someone did with their whisky, as long as they bought it & kept doing so 👍 What are your views on the Penderyn whiskies? Regards P.

      @jaybradley809 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Paul, Sorry to hear of your illness. This is Jay. My father had the same issue when he went through chemo last year and what it did to his tastebuds. I wish you a speedy recovery. I like Penderyn whiskies. I had a good conversation with them at the Whisky Show in London and learned a bit about their production. I really like that they recommend you to warm up their whisky in your hand before sampling it to release some more of the flavour profiles. Thanks for your comment 👍

      @@jaybradley809 thanks for that - when this is over and done with I will be having an r'n'r visit to the Penderyn distillery - just up the road, so not too onerous👍 Loving the videos & getting some inspiration for some roadtrips 🤟

    Loved the video man! I’m mostly a blend drinker (those single malts are damn expensive!). But I’ve had some decent single malts…The Glenlivet 18 and The Macallan 12. But they taste weak and almost lacking in flavor vs a Johnnie Walker Black or Dewars 12. Maybe I need to try some smokier single malts.

    I can only handle Crown Royal type of flavors. Some whiskey has a lingering flavor/smell that triggers a hung over type of drunk. Where I don't know if I feel sick or drunk. Smell sensory overload😣

    So, that means blended whiskies like blue label that are expensive, just have higher proportion of single malts and lesser ethanol spirit. Or is it expensive because they use really expensive single malts for blend?

    Good information
    Majority of the whiskey I have and drink are single malts, no colour and in chilled filtered
    Have a few whiskeys that are blends.
    Cheers.

    Not sure if this was mentioned and I missed it. I have read that single malt is basically from a single location - produced in one distillery etc. Blended whiskey can be made from blends with grains etc., clear enough. But what about making whisky blended from different single malts, but without grain?

    • @jewilso111
      @jewilso111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a quality blend. The Irishman does this and says so on the label: A unique blend of 70% Single Malt & 30% Single Pot Still.

    • @jaybradley809
      @jaybradley809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's from the same distillery (but different years for example), it's still a single malt. If you take different malts from different distilleries and blend them, its a blended malt. Single means from the same distillery, regardless if you're taking 3 year old and 7 year old and blending them. blend is when you either use different whiskies from the same distillery (like grain and pot still and malt), or malts from different distilleries

    • @alangray6961
      @alangray6961 ปีที่แล้ว

      If its from Scotland a blend of malt and other grains will often be called 'Blended Scotch'. A mixture of different single malts only will normally be labelled as 'Blended Malt'.

    I don’t drink blended on principle. Would you blend a top shelf spirit with Coke? No, of course not. So why would you blend your top shelf product with other spirits that may or may not be as good? It makes no sense to me. If you make a quality product, then it should stand on its own.
