- Paul & Anthony living full time on a 60’ electric narrowboat, cruising along the canals and rivers in the UK. We take our Narrowboat along the Staffs & Worcester Canal, through Hyde Lock and moor our biat at the Beeches in the stunning area around Kinver. We explore the beautiful village and the Kinver Edge Cave Houses. We then travel on our electric narrowboat through locks and along the rich sandstone trail that the canal follows and moor at the Round Oak Pub, heading North to the Shropshire Union Canlal.
Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. We can't wait to share our new adventures with you.

Couldn’t agree more with you about the cyclists on towpath.Don’t use a bell to warn you,think it’s their own cycle lane and are quiet aggressive with it.Good manners cost nothing and let’s ALL enjoy the beautiful surroundings the canals can offer.Might be nice to say hello as you pass by too😊 Thanks for the vlogs

Today I visited a reservoir in Cardiff, quietly enjoying walking round it watching the wildfowl with hubby when a runner approached us, swerved off the path which is there for walkers of all ages brushing against hubby's shoulder & yelled to him that he should have got out of the way! Happy days..... 😮

Night owl here! I'm retired, so I don't have to keep anybody else's schedule, thank goodness! For my dogs' sakes, I get up in time to feed them around 8 in the morning: nap time (for me & them) is about half past 11 a.m.! 🙂💖🌟

I love checking out people’s houses ! There is a home and garden tour in support of the ballet I really enjoy as they always have beautiful properties to show - it’s also interesting to see how folks decorate

Love the map start. You'll need the fire now, looks nice and warm. Had to smile at Dexter unpacking the shopping, you cant be annoyed can you. There were beautiful colours along the canal, nature is wonderful, and Ive always found everyone shares the towpath nicely but there are always exceptions. Well done on carrying on your exercise Anthony, its good therapy for me, couldnt be without biking and walking. Wrap up warm you three xxx

I enjoyed seeing the cave houses. It reminded me of the cave dwellings in the village of Setenil de Las Bodegas just north of Ronda in Andalucia, Spain. There you will see many houses, plus the road on which you drive goes through tunnels carved into the cliffs.

You know you are old when you can remember using some of the stuff in the cave houses. Interesting to see the diesel fire, they are a lot cleaner than the solid fuel stoves. Great countryside shots, looking very green still. Great service from Oakums, coming out to do work and services.

Belated comment. Hey guys and Dexter you all are well. Sorry for not commenting last week but it was my birthday (Johns) over the weekend and we had a break from connective devices. We did watch a couples of days after you posted and ended up watching it 3 times. The scenery was just STUNNING! Some of the cottages/homes along the way looked so inviting. I can just remember an earth toilet like that as my family home was built in 18 70 . It was changed by my dad, to a flush toilet . When i had to go into hospital when i was 3 years old , and did not come out until i was 8 years old . As i was not able to walk . But that is my life .

I almost bought a house in Kinver earlier this year , its a beautiful little village ( expensive though ) the last time I looked at the rock houses ( 30 + years ago ) they were derelict and didnt look like that , the National Trust have done a great job .
Hey Bruce. It is a stunning village and yeah, very expensive. We always look in estate agents to see what the houses are worth in the areas we visit. We loved the cave houses: they definitely have done a great job. Hope you have a fabulous weekend ❤️
Thanks for another great vlog. Those cave houses were very interesting. Yes - that was a hot water bottle at 9:38. I remember using one like that when I was a child in the 1950s. It must be so difficult for you both when one of you is a morning person and the other not. I'm a night owl and function best in the early hours of the morning. However, I don't have to worry about anyone else so that's fine!!

It actually works out well re the morning night owl situation. Paul gets up, takes Dexter out whilst I sleep. I do dinner and wash up whilst Paul does his artwork. 😊. Hope you are having a lovely week ❤️

I’m a morning person. Up at 6 am, cup of tea then out with the dogs. Early to bed though. We walk our dogs on the Rochdale canal towpath which is only a couple of minutes away from where we live.

Happy Friday evening! It's so nice to see the summer cruising. The houses and gardens along side the canal are so nice. I had heard of the Kinser cave houses somewhere before. I don't think I'd care for living that way. A little too rustic for me. 😊 Had rain last night but it's still nearly 60 degrees. Last year it got cold very early and stayed. This year is a proper long autumn but sadly it will end. It's been a really good year for fall colors too. 🍁🍂 They aren't all down yet. ❤ Most definitely a night 🦉. Stay up late and sleep in. After I watch my regular shows I usually end it with some Mock The Week. Some laughs before sleeping is a good thing, I think. 😏 It's always good when you end at a pub. 🙂 Have a great weekend. ❤

I’m definitely a night owl but my dogs are early larks. They get me up a 5am for a quick get off the boat. I do get the chance to go back to bed after and as long as they have a biscuit, I get another hour in bed. Love them but they are buggers in the morning.😂

I get up early, not quite as early as when i worked, for 9 years I was up at 4am starting work at 5am. I'm now a full time carer for my daughter and husband and am up at 7am. I like early mornings. As long as I keep mysrlf busy I don't kip in the evening. But easy to drop off 😂

Hi Paul, Anthony and Dexter. What a lovely Vlog again this week. I noticed on the shot of Paul walking up some stairs towards Dexter that the image looked really steady (walking up the steps). Has Paul got a counter balance (Fluid-type) head on his camera mount? It was an impressive shot. Dexter is so kool with his Dad giving him a hair cut. The Kinver Edge Caves were very interesting. The wooden Maiden (Clothes Horse) in one of the rooms was exactly the same as the one we had at home when I was very young. I chuckled when you turned left on the canal, both you and Paul counter balanced (as you would on a bike) and leaned the other way. The sandstone wall on the side of the canal was stunning. Anthony regarding your fitness regime, I had noticed that you had been doing most of the locks in recent Vlog(s). Well done. Sensible idea to run the stagnant water off. I do that first thing in the morning. I loved the scene where Paul assists Dexter onto the boat talking to him so sweetly 1-2-3 here we go, and Dexter then jumped on the boat. I'd love to see Paul feed Dexter with a spoon, and I wonder if Paul would say something like "Chugga chugga choo choo! Here comes the train" as he fed Dexter the food. Anthony, sorry you were losing your sense of Humour re: The Bow/Stern thrusters. I feel your anguish. I am certainly a morning person these days. Thank you for another excellent and enjoyable Vlog. Hey Spoolbox, I don’t think Paul had a steadying cam when he did that shot. Dexter is so patient when he has his haircut. We absolutely loved Kinver and especially them cave houses. I’ve only ever seen them In Andalusia before. Definitely getting some great fitness doing all the locks and have been going to the gym now for 13 weeks and I’ve lost over a stone. We always run the stagnant water off. Don’t like the idea of being in the tank. We’re having to help Dexter onto the boat more now he gets older, but he still copes really well.
I’ve definitely never been a morning person and more of a night owl. Glad you enjoyed this one. We loved the area of Canal. Have a great weekend. ❤️

My backyard used to look like that garden...only smaller..that was before taking care of my parents and trying to handle a fulltime job and a heart attack.....then later disabled myself..Now i go to the deck and everything is so overgrown..i can afford to have the lawn mowed but the prices i have been quoted for the shrubery lines and flower beds are not in my budget for sure...i should have just found a garden to hang out in for all those years i spent on my yard....do you wish you had stopped to view that garden at the plant nursery? Please give Dexter an extra pat and tell him he has so many others that love him..love you both and Dexter too XOXOX

Morning person but do nanny nap in they afternoon but I do school run for granddaughter I loved the cave house's I bet they where damp in winter , and I agree tow paths are not safe
I would definitely need nanny naps if I was a morning person Lorraine 😂 I loved those cave houses too, I think the thick stone keeps the houses warm during winter and cool in summer. At least that what they weee saying. The tow paths need to be shared with mutual respect. We were really upset when Dexter got hit by a scooter rider a few years back. The Johns gardens was very frustrating and the garden centre. Although there was a little bridge very close the garden centre said they couldn’t open it to allow us to visit. We would have to have walked all the way back from the next lock. I was very disappointed. Xx

You can put Dexter in you shopping trolley for comfort on longer walks, imagine his age in human years!😊 i think you guys should look into an incinerator toilet: nothing but ash that comes out and is ideal for the hedgerows! No waste to deal with anymore!
We have been saying the same re putting Dexter in a trolley when doing longer walks. We did loads of research re toilets. Love the idea of an incinerator toilet but they are so expensive and power hungry to run, plus they require maintenance too. 😊

Hey Dawn. Kinver may well be one of my favourite villages we have visited. Loving the new Reflex. Definitely beats all that dust and coal. So much more controllable. It most definitely keeps the boat warm. Dexter always puts his nose in the shopping bags 😂.

7:30 a.m. a morning person? lol I wake up at 4:30 and get out of bed by 5:00 a.m. Try to get most of my work done before my 9-5 job. For the last two weeks, when the sky is finally bright enough I've been raking leaves. Eleven large paper bags of leaves so far -- **sigh** I've just found that if I don't start moving first thing in the morning then I accomplish nothing at all. Thanks for the tour and love to Dexter. Stay safe and warm.

I hear you on the lark and owl thing. My wife is an annoying morning person who bounces out of bed at stupid-o-clock at least an hour before dawn, if not two. As a result she is asleep by 9:30/10:00pm and sleepy long before that. I'm an owl, so try as I might I can't get to sleep before midnight and 2:00 is more common. This means we are only in bed together for about 3 to 4 hours a night.
Absolutely this. 😂. Even if I go to bed early there is no way I am asleep before midnight. Paul’s head hits the pillow and he is snoring. It is quite frustrating 😂. Hope you have a fab week ❤️

Lovely cruise this week love the look of Kinver they keep it so pretty with all the hanging baskets. We used to be able to stay up at night not any more 8pm is about all I can get to these days we’re so pathetic 🤣🤣 but my hubby did turn 78 yesterday me only 68 spring chicken!! Really interesting, the cave homes. That had to be a hard life. Still, can't help wonder how they felt about moving onto a council estate. Have to believe having indoor plumbing and electricity was near miraculous! Cruising in the evening before it's too dark looks nice. But if it's been a long day and you're tired, maybe not. I'm like Anthony, a night owl. I stayed up late binge watching Part 1 final season of The Crown. It was rough in spots and went to bed with red puffy eyes. Didn't care for all the elements in this new season. I hope it does better in Part 2. Are you guys watching it? Gentle hug and kisses to Dexter.
