love the Eisenhower years footage, what a time. Such an excellent song! Didn't know it had been released as a single. Heard it at Jimmie John's the other day and I was TRANSPORTED!
ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING SONGS IVE EVER HEARD! ARCADE FIRE FTW! XD THIS IS HOW I FEEL EVERY SECOND OF EVERYDAY! I LOVE THE "i need the darkness. someone please shut the light" PART! XD
I haven't seen a mixed instrumental band that I've been truly fond of since Godspeed You Black Emperor. While the music is different on both sides, the structures are rich. So much fertile land....
I wonder if the title of this song is related in any way to the book "Mountains Beyond Mountains" written by Dr. Paul Farmer about Régine Chassagne's homeland of Haiti. It's an amazing book, BTW. Definitely a good read. It may make you cry.
The burbs cant be so bad! You live in sweet clean sprawl and not too far from a huge city center! You can still get to the venues, hipness, and sophistication of the big town then escape the nonsense of such a place.
@jimamia77 I agree, but don't you find some suburbs a bit cold and artificial? The song describes that feeling of living somwhere a bit further. (it has that something, for me at least)
@benferguson888 i guess you can take from it what you want, as in to extract your own meaning. I'm bad at looking into specifics anyway, not that that's a bad thing. Generally, this seems to be about the challenges of life. A lot of their lyrics seem to echo back to times of childhood. But that's not to say we have to interpret it that way..
Suburbia = lower quality of life, downtown living= superior living, especially in places like Manhattan, Vancouver, San Francisco , and all Western European metropolitan areas.
Love the archival footage, takes me back to my childhood and goes so well with the mood of this great song.
hahaha I was watching this footage in a lecture the other day and for the whole time I had The Suburbs running through my head. Well made!
wow that was absolutely fantastic, very much captures the feeling not of just this song but the entire album.
one of the most beautiful songs ever

I love Régine's voice, I hope they let her have more songs on their next album. In The Backseat is my favorite AF song, this is a close second though.
Mi canción favorita al momento... I need the darkness someone please cut the lights.
I will definitely play this song the next time I drive through The Woodlands.
Great editing! Thanks for the upload.

what does this song mean?
In a perfect display of irony, the advertising tab on the video as I watched it was for Juicy Couture.
wooooah.... really reminiscent of the 80s
I would of never guessed this was made in 2010

is that regine leaning on the counter at 1:37?
@jimamia77 it looks like that from the outside, but growing up in one and living in one for practically your whooe life can be a bit stifling/
Least disliked video I've seen on youtube! Well done Arcade Fire :)!
Is it just me or does this song sound some what similar to The Knife?
