Absolutely and tax payers pay to upkeep those areas so a population of people with unknown criminal and drug records can trash them. I keep hearing about their rights, that about the rights of young children to walk safe in a park. There are several subsets in the homeless population, some Legitimate economic and some criminals and drug addicts with no interest in helping themselves. In the state I live many convicted child predators.

@@tomcloud54 In the past (think 100yrs ago), these situations were dealt with...they were called "poor farms". If you didn't have enough money you would live on a poor farm, and work to run the place that gave you food and board. There were rules and structure, it was not anything goes. If a person was mentally ill, then they went to live long term in the "insane asylum" instead. Patients at the asylum worked jobs there if they could too to help with their keep. Since these able bodied folks at both the "poor farm" and "asylum" did work as they were able, this helped to decrease the burden on the tax payer. BTW the asylum had a section for drug addicts too to get them sober and productive again as well. If someone was repeatedly detoxed, then given work and sent back out in the world only to become a problematic drug addict again, then eventually they were just held long term at the asylum so they could not go back in public and continue disturbing the peace. We need to bring back these old ideas that actually worked.

The national emergency is that we have too many people on welfare and the 'urban campers' don't want a job, they don't want to abide by society's rules. They only want to drink and do drugs. Go to any homeless camp and ask them if they are willing to work in exchange for housing. The real homeless who want help are in shelters trying to get work and better themselves. I've had too many interactions with homeless camps.

I was lucky, I got my SSDI approved in about 18 months but for some people, it can take years! For something they PAID FOR. Wait! Didn't they change the minimum wage to something like $15 an hour? That's $2400 a month minimum! You can't seriously tell me that they can't afford rent. The average rent in Buffalo NY is between $900 and $1200 a mo. I'm not buying the bull. They don't want jobs and they dont want to live somewhere with rules where they have to pick ip after themselves.

How much does it cost to not be homeless there? In California it costs about $70,000 after income tax and no health insurance. Prisoners cost about $106,000 per year to house and care for each one.

It's funny that Jamestown thinks this is a big deal. In Los Angeles we have lived with 60,000 at least homeless all over the city with many miles long encampments, unusable parks, crime, filth. For many, many years. Since our state government is finally starting to take action, the ones who do not want housing will migrate, hopefully, elsewhere. Perhaps Jamestown?
