Thank you so much Trace for bringing back Canada's most important contribution to science-fiction, Stargate :D Having had the opportunity to travel to Antarctica after spending a week in the northern, Canadian Arctic Circle several years ago, I would definitely revisit the bottom part of our planet.
YES I WANT TO VISIT! It's always been my greatest passion and I find myself trying to decide what branch of science I want to go into just to get myself to Antarctica when I'm older!!
I've already asked this once, I'm going to ask it again. Why doesn't this channel get more views? Like seriously the good content they produce and how daily it is! Please get featured with Vsauce or some other educating channels! Get yourself known!
I have often thought I would love to spend a year in Antartica, at one of their research stations. I like the notion of getting away from everything, and everyone I know, to sort of find out about myself. The catch with that is I don't think I have any skills they need down there. I don't see them needing a game, or web developer.
I would love to visit the neutrino observatory there! That would be so awesome. Also, it's another continent I would like to be able to cross off my list.
As a physicist, I have some friends who went to Antartica to conduct and watch over some experiments. You get paid pretty well to do that, since it is a rather dark and lonely place. Plus, you won't be able to spend most of the money you make there. That's how they keep the jobs attractive. Because let's face it: As cool as it may be to stay there for a week, half a year of winter alone in a research facility is not the greatest 6 months you will be spending in your life.
my home town was actually colder over the last few days at night than it was in Antarctica at the south pole at the same time. believe it or not. and before anyone says it yes I know it's summer down there but it was -25 C here while it was only -23 C there according to the US base at the south pole.
***** Is not just the name matching but other factors like frozen palm trees and animals found in Antarctica. A Russian expedition found an ancient lake frozen more than a mile below the ice. Other studies found that Egypt wasn't always a dessert and that in fact it was very fertile as early as 12,000 years ago. We also know periodically Earth changes its axes and inclines in different positions, there are hypothesis about how this may be a gradual shift but nobody has conclusively proven a model for this. There is also a line of about 120 miles wide that unites many ancient temples around the world that have to do with position of stars, creating what it seems like an equator that is no longer accurate... All of these things have a common factor and history tied to Atlantis, so there are other rocks were to frog leap here, no giant leap ;)
***** To be more precise Antarctica is the "romanized" version of a Greek Legend about far away lands covered in ice, in fact both the Romans and Greeks thought the polar lands were a myth. Well it turns out that they were no myth. The Greek poet Homer intrigued people with the mythical cities of Troy and Atlantis but nobody thought they could be real until of course Troy was discovered. So big mythical lands for some reason turn out not to be popular myths and the ones we do know about have been real places. But I love naysayers otherwise who could I say "told you"...
I really hope you were joking when you mentioned Belgians and Europeans separately as if one wasn't part of the other. I mean the de facto European capital city is in Belgium, just saying… **Muricans** ;)
Sorry, I didn't want to be offensive, it was just a little joke which I don't think was inappropriate considering the context. Especially in a science show I expect them to be careful with these kind of things.
CaptinDread Yeah, but you're not. Let us look at the reality. The French have stole everything you have never done, and have controlled everything that you have ever done. They have bummed you for everything that you ever owned and for everything about your country. And this is one of the million reasons why you should hate the French.
Well not really the french help belgium in multiple occasions they have most certainly not controlled us (Hence we're independant) Belgian chocolate is apperently very good (I don't know never ate chocolate in/from an other country) Belgian waffels are also quite damn famous and the french haven't ad anything to do with that eighter as for french fries it was a name came up by the british cause they think we're too small so they call us french since half of our country speaks it. We may be small but that just means cour country needs less shit in it to be awesome. And yes I do hate some french mostly the dicks that come to belgium to fuck with us and cause troubble other then that cool guys hard langeuge though. PS how the hell does one write langgeuge (
Antarctica is isolated for about millions of years to other continent, the earlier eras are full of life but later eras are lifeless. Like the north pole it must remain free from any human settlement because the disturbance in the south can cause a disturbance around the wold
in the list at the end, you cant just ignore new zealand... almost every aircraft that goes to antarctica comes from new zealand, i live near the airport that they fly out of...
I'd visit a lab there or something. The cold wouldn't bother me since I'm from Minnesota, and I guess it's a lot colder here than Antarctica. All of that nothing would just get boring.
Twenty times I looked at the title of this video and twenty times I thought "That's a stupid question. I'm not watching it." DNews wins on blackjack. You hooked me again.
Funny story, guy from my company has been in antarctica for the last year babysitting a couple of cat D6s and trying to cross the continent. (didn't make it though due to crevasses) Google "Coldest Journey" he's the poor bastard from Peace River, Alberta.
that picture of the neutrino lab seemed real interesting when it suddenly had a philippine flag waving atop it lol apparently a filipino-chinese neutrino researcher put it up when he came to antarctica to research for nasa for the US
Scientists believe the supercontinent "gondwana" = Australia+Antarctica split millions of years ago, but I would like to see if similar marsupial and mammalian life forms existed on both continents around the same time making the supercontinent "younger" than a few million. Antarctica is Atlantis there should be many signs of human habitation there as it is a HUGE continent. and considering the continent is less than 100 years old in explorative years. Many secrets lie there.
Of course id love to visit but I just find it a little confusing how 50 countries can come together for science in Antarctica but when all of us are in our home lands wars can start over a few words and over oil
Why wouldn't we, the air bubbles trapped within the layers of snow give us highly detailed information about how our planet has changed. It is mostly untouched giving unaltered information about our planet.
Climate change "scientists" going to Antarctica during it's summer to take pictures of melting sea ice and gather "evidence" of global warming:very expensive. Those very same "scientists" who insist that we trust their climate predictions getting trapped in record setting sea ice: absolutely PRICELESS!
Pff. I can handle it. I live in Minnesota and we just had two -30 degrees (Fahrenheit) days in a row. P.S. , There were also just two snow days in a row so WOO HOO!
although the draw of science and what could possibly be the most useful form of information that could have a massive number of benefits and or use's. I HAVE ENOUGH ISSUES WITH 30 BELOW TEMPS HERE IN MINNESOTA NO WAY WILL I GO WERE IT CAN REACH 100 BELOW AND EVEN LOWER!
and to be exact Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the capital of Europe i live there but we have a huge science lab in antarctica i think it's close to the russian's
So the Russian drilled a huge hole into the Antarctica... That's pretty cool..I always feel the achievement of Russia is downplayed... I came to know that International Space Station major drive to existence was the Russian know how of space station Mir... Got to give them more credit ...
I loved you mentioned Stargate, my favourite show. Loved the battle of Antarctica, by far my favourite episode.
Maybe Godzilla's hiding beneath Antarctica with his army of penguins and bacterium getting powered by neutrinos....
Thank you so much Trace for bringing back Canada's most important contribution to science-fiction, Stargate :D
Having had the opportunity to travel to Antarctica after spending a week in the northern, Canadian Arctic Circle several years ago, I would definitely revisit the bottom part of our planet.
before watching the video: im guessing, finding crude oil & fossils, & to study the iceberg formations etc.?
humans have agreed not to mine for oil to preserve the continent.
prosniper58 what about cats?
Your are, as apparent after watching the video, wrong, sorry.
***** lol, it's too harsh of an environment to start anythin
hypothesis was proven wrong.
I want to visit antarctica soooooo badly. It's definitely on my bucket list!
Belgians AND Europeans? Wow!
Crazy stories from our planet AND BEYOND!!!! Also, it makes me so happy when you reference my favourite nerdy shows! I love stargate so much
YES I WANT TO VISIT! It's always been my greatest passion and I find myself trying to decide what branch of science I want to go into just to get myself to Antarctica when I'm older!!
keeping the research environmentally friendly and safe is also critical.
That episode of SG-1 was awesome!
I love love to go to Antarctica. Just to see it. Explore a bit, travel, see the sights, and what goes on in laboratories.
Maybe its my speakers, but Trace's voice seems higher than it should be haha
I like the idea of writing the measurement in KM on the screen. Thank you.
I've already asked this once, I'm going to ask it again. Why doesn't this channel get more views? Like seriously the good content they produce and how daily it is! Please get featured with Vsauce or some other educating channels! Get yourself known!
Antarctica is really beautiful, but I can't imagine ever wanting to go there. I can barely deal with the winters here in New Jersey.
Antarctica is land around our whole earth, like the end of the world, Wow
- Mediocre Monday
There are huge oil reserves discovered in Antarctica.
USA: "It's time these penguins get some democracy!"
I have often thought I would love to spend a year in Antartica, at one of their research stations. SG1 !!! bring it back!!!
Loved the Stargate shout out XD
Yay for Belgium!
All this and one day Kurt Russell is still going to go down there, help unleash The Thing, and destroy all humankind. Thanks Kurt Russell, thanks.
if i could go join one of these amazing projects i would be honored
Walk into science class and tell the tacher "I'm being impaled... by nutrieanos " Ok how do you spell that
Which science class? Neutrinos*
***** thank you and most likely physics class because it's a physics joke
I would visit it just to check it out. I'm interested in checking out the world!
I love this topic
It made me happy that he mentioned Stargate SG-1
That sounds awesome.
I've wanted to go there for a long time. There's a few geocaches I need to grab.
I would love to visit the neutrino observatory there! That would be so awesome.

To find me.
Antarctica = Atlantis----> from the "Atlantic" sea.
After the rotation tilt it became a pole.
Have you ever heard of the term, 'Giant leap'?

At least your living in a colourful world
I really hope you were joking when you mentioned Belgians and Europeans separately as if one wasn't part of the other. I mean the de facto European capital city is in Belgium, just saying… **Muricans** ;)
I don't think he meant them separately like that, just to name off the many countries and exaggerate it.
Oh, and stop using stereotypes like that.
Sorry, I didn't want to be offensive, it was just a little joke which I don't think was inappropriate considering the context. Especially in a science show I expect them to be careful with these kind of things.
You know as a Belgian I feel a tad bit more special now ;)

needs to be longer
lol I was reading about that the last couple days. The rescue ship is now stuck too >.

What I was thinking about why we go to Antarctica: maybe we are looking for stargates. Mentions stargate...... IM PSYCIC!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to go Antarctica!!
Twenty times I looked at the title of this video and twenty times I thought "That's a stupid question. I'm not watching it." DNews wins on blackjack. You hooked me again.
Stargate sg-1 reference! For the win!!
I was born in the Falkland Islands. I left many years ago. Shame I would love to have taken this trip.
Las Malvinas son Argentinas!!
The Falkland Islands are British by birth and also by the vote to remain British. Will block your facebook page.
Funny story, guy from my company has been in antarctica for the last year babysitting a couple of cat D6s and trying to cross the continent. (didn't make it though due to crevasses) Google "Coldest Journey" he's the poor bastard from Peace River, Alberta.
Mountains of Madness...
that picture of the neutrino lab seemed real interesting when it suddenly had a philippine flag waving atop it lol apparently a filipino-chinese neutrino researcher put it up when he came to antarctica to research for nasa for the US
Damn, that ice is 2,000 m thick? Wow...
i'd go in an heart beat if given the chance.

It's like a giant time capsule, you guys! And we just contaminated it. :)
no dislikes!
oh no jinxed it.
Diana Martinez
I can only assume that those were the results of people who wanted to click but missed and didn't realize it.
Travis Frazier
I sure hope so!
Interesting.
I wonder if that is where the aliens live.
So that's why the pinguins survive down there. Their are aliens that come from a super cold planet where antarctica's weather is like summer for them.
Hells yeah I'd visit Antarctica !!!!
As a photographer, yes, but not sure how I would get my batteries working there.
Countries agreed that Antarctica should be protected forever? I thought the Antarctic treaty expires in 2041?
Of course id love to visit but I just find it a little confusing how 50 countries can come together for science in Antarctica but when all of us are in our home lands wars can start over a few words and over oil
I am Belgian and i approve this message.
I watched the whole Stargate SG-1
defiantly yes!!!!
The Stargate reference just raised my opinion of DNews.
No dislikes! YET! You're on a role DNews!
Because it's there gosh darn it.
Belgium YAY omg more belgians here than I thought :D
We should do the same with the arctic!!
Cthulhu is still hidden under the ice, until we find it, we will never be fulfilled as a species. Praise Cthulu.
i like the cold, but damn. a bit to much for me. it would still be cool to go down there and just gaze opon the near nothingness down there
do penguins have knees?
No.
I would go there because Lost Planet is awesome...
For some reason mettalica felt the need to play their in front of a hundred scientists
Why wouldn't we, the air bubbles trapped within the layers of snow give us highly detailed information about how our planet has changed. It is mostly untouched giving unaltered information about our planet.

Stargate, best show ever! All of them!
my friends dad left for antarctia a few days ago...
Pff. I can handle it. I live in Minnesota and we just had two -30 degrees (Fahrenheit) days in a row. P.S. , There were also just two snow days in a row so WOO HOO!
Watch out. We got a badass over here.
Came here from "Where did all our oceans come from" TestTube Plus
Science unites us
I'd only want to visit if Sho'goths are nicer than Lovecraft claimed...
Stargate Sg1!! Love that show!!
I would absolutely not go, even if I was paid well... Way too cold for me :P
What about the magnetic field, or the Aurora Australius
you should do an episode on lullabys if sing children to sleep works or not. if so why does it work?
Can you tell us about Mars One and projects for humans to go to mars.
Thanks. Now I want to go to Antarctica to get stuck in the ice.
Not to mention the underground alien bases
How can you say that something is from other galaxy when you really dont have a clue what other galaxy is at all...
GOLLY MUSIC What are you asking?
Since I was 8 I've wanted to be a scientist in Antarctica haha
If I could think of a way to capitalize on that barren sheet of ice, I would be mad that no one can own property there... But I can't so idc.
although the draw of science and what could possibly be the most useful form of information that could have a massive number of benefits and or use's. I HAVE ENOUGH ISSUES WITH 30 BELOW TEMPS HERE IN MINNESOTA NO WAY WILL I GO WERE IT CAN REACH 100 BELOW AND EVEN LOWER!
I would love to cross Antarctica and jab the dome just because i can
I believe the Russians stopped drilling before they reached Lake Vostok as to not contaminate it with the drilling equipment.
and to be exact Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the capital of Europe i live there but we have a huge science lab in antarctica i think it's close to the russian's
we go there because its COOL there!
OMG STARGATE SG1!!!!
Ok, love you for mentioning the amazing show stargate sg1!
So the Russian drilled a huge hole into the Antarctica... That's pretty cool..I always feel the achievement of Russia is downplayed... I came to know that International Space Station major drive to existence was the Russian know how of space station Mir... Got to give them more credit ...
We go to Antarctica to rescue global warming scientists.....
