    I had a hearing dog. 50,000 pouds sounds about right -- this sounds a lot like my school. I had a hearing dog (has crossed the Rainbow Bridge). She'd tell me when the bus came (I could not hear it) someone calling my name, when I dropped something, and on and on and.
    Her best friend was a Guide Dog -- the four of us met at a stop light.
    Dogs are more than wonderful helpers.

    I hope I get a guide dog someday soon. It would be amazing. I love my cane, it gives me freedom and independance, but it takes a lot of concentration, and I get everywhere exhausted. And if I make the slightest mistake I risk my neck. I would feel safer with a companion by my side, making sure we both get where we are going safely

    That is so cool, if they were to actually create a whole separate breed just for guide work.

    • @Torkijo
      @Torkijo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That probably wouldn't work as the need is different foe each person, there are 3/4 main breeds but other different ones are used to breed the right characteristics into the dogs, I know of Labrador, Golden Retriever, Poodle,German Shepard (Alsatian), Collies and curly-coated Retrievers but would suspect there are others as well. By using the other breeds they can ensure all the traits needed are available.

    • @darkwolf2622
      @darkwolf2622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Torkijo Well, multiple breeds do go into one. Not just two, so it could still be done.

    • @Torkijo
      @Torkijo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darkwolf2622 but the outcome needs to range in height, physical stamina, fur type etc to suit individuals

    • @darkwolf2622
      @darkwolf2622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Torkijo Er... You know every dog is different, right? And you do know how breeding works? Take the German Shepherd for example. Some have long hair, some have medium length hair, others have short. Some come in black, some black and tan, some white, some sable, and many, many more. Some are bred for service work, to take time and slow down for their handler, others are bred for police work, where they need to run for distances to take someone down. And height, well like I said, all dogs are different. There is an average height, but almost no dog is average. Some shepherds are only 80 lbs, while others can be as heavy as 110 lbs. Range in a breed is not unachievable. Hard work, but not unachievable.

    I'm fastly going blind due to diabetes. The only thing that gives me hope is having a guide dog. I don't think I will qualify though, I'm poor and all alone.

    • @brushidobee2233
      @brushidobee2233 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I'm not sure about the poor part, but 'Alone', all the more reason why you probably should get a guide dog.

    • @sarahdaw6648
      @sarahdaw6648 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Liquidbabydoll You should look into it, there are programs and charities that would work with you. Money shouldn't be the issue.

      @sarahdaw6648 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah Dawmelillo Guide Dogs for the Blind is one of the charities that provide the dog for free....that's in US and I'm sure the UK, www. guide dogs.org.uk....you will have to go on a waiting list but it will be worth it in the end.

    12 puppies!?! I didn't even know they could have litters that big!

    • @Torkijo
      @Torkijo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chris green Philly 12 is definately a larger one, if they are too big the pups are sometimes fostered to a mum with a smaller litter or the pups are bottlefed to top them up if Mum runs dry

    A dog is better than a girlfriend , a girlfriend will eventually leave you in most cases , she might even cheat on you, a dog will never do that

      +TheWizard22UK Hate to say it but given how many Taxi's seem to be rejecting Guide Dogs its nothing to do with their religion, just their ignorance of the UK law

    • @staceyanderson6480
      @staceyanderson6480 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Torkijo I don't even have a guide dog and my dog is allowed in cabs.. I just make sure to ask for a pet friendly cab when I call. That's horrible if they are refusing guide dogs.. it is ignorance of the law.

    • @36SOAD
      @36SOAD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stacey {KharmaticRhythm} Anderson I actually understand why most cab drivers would reject pet dogs. It's very hard these days to find someone with a dog that is well trained and obeys their owner in every situation, so on top of hygiene aspects, it is also a safety issue in this case. I know this doesn't apply to guide dogs since they are perfectly trained, so this should of course be the exception. But I honestly can't even stand dogs in public transportations and this is nothing against the dogs but against their owners, because they don't train their animal to be well behaved.

      Most of the Mums live with regular families, some of those families do not have the space for the actual birthing itself or if there are issues with the birth they would want them under medical scrutiny to ensure Mum and Pups are kept safe and healthy if there are any problems. There are literally dozens of families in Warwickshire and Coventry area caring for and living with the Brood mums :-)
