My marlin 1894 in .357 was like this, polished up some of the insides and put 700 rounds through it and its buttery smooth! :)

Always had a soft spot for the lever guns!
Guess it must have had something to do with wanting to be the Rifleman, or something!

You can also practice with your 22s more frequently at a lower cost for the ammo, then switch over to 38 special just before going to a CAS event.

Unfortunately the feel is completely different and we've found practicing with the Henrys doesn't carry over well to the Rossi. The Henry teaches me to short shuck the Rossi. We're going to have to work on some dry fire practice with it.

it takes quite a few rounds thru a lever action to smooth the action out, unless u have a henry. gotta be careful not to short shuck the rifle too. that will just add time to ur score.

Adding time to the score I think will be a common theme while we get started.

I would love to do this, but all I have is a 30-30 Marlin 93 and a Winchester 94 also in 30-30 and the cost to shoot that like you would CAS would get expensive really fast.

Believe me... it adds up with any caliber! :-)

***** That is true, although ammo for 30-30 may cost more but that's understandable because it's not a handgun cartridge like the 38 special. If I can learn myself to do CAS fairly well with 30-30, then I should have no problem doing it with a rifle chambered for 38. spl. I haven't seen a box of 30-30 on the shelves in my area in ages.

You haven't shot lever actions much have you? They do take getting used to. Keep practicing and you will get smoother.

Shot several of lever actions... just not while keeping it fully shouldered, on target and cycling them as fast as possible.

What's the rush? Maybe I missed something. You gotta crawl before you can run. If you expect to shoot that fast and be accurate enough to hit that target at that distance with that rifle and technique your crazy. Slow down, aim small, the progression of your skill your expecting will take weeks if not months not minutes or hours. Patience is a virtue. You'll get there. Keep at it partner !

Yeah, I know it looks crazy. But this practice is not about hitting the target it's about cycling the gun faster. The targets in CAS are actually MUCH larger and MUCH closer than what we have on our range, so we just have to kind of shoot in that direction. When you see us with the correct targets, it'll make more sense.

I'm very familiar with the CAS targets and setup. You'll get the hang of it. Remember, all of the other CAS shooters started at the beginning too. Keep at it.
