I appreciate the quality of your videos but I think some of the things that I’m looking for when moving to a new place are missing in this video 😅 I’m looking for restaurants, comic book stores, movie theaters, museums/gardens etc. In this video, I think the only con for me was the hot summers (I hate summer) and that it doesn’t get enough snow 😂 oh well, I’ll be there soon anyway.
As someone who can no longer drive, my big questions are walkability and mass transit. My secondary question is health care and elder care availability.
David, great questions. Instead of typing things out here feel free to just give me a call 208-264-3211 and I'll see how I can help answers those for you.

This is hugely helpful!! I'm in PDX and it's full of plusses, but there's something about a place that's more 'homey' that is appealing about Boise. Also-- I could learn how to surf! And paddleboard! And get outdoor wheels for my roller skates! I'm going to review more of your offerings for sure.

Hi, Boise State University to me is a PRO. A major university for academics and sporting events. Although the town of Boise is not considered a college town, BSU is a PRO.
Hey, great job! I moved away 4 years ago and planning to move back. Kinda waiting for the housing market to correct a bit. I was on crutches for a year and they are very few handicap spots and they are NEVER convenient and sometimes they are hidden and sometimes people / store owners use the spot for their business. God help you if you bring it up to the store owner. This one is tough. Some of my data: - Boise is a LONG way from anywhere. - lots of people are moving to Boise. - finding a house with a yard is incredibly difficult. This one is craZy given all the land in the Wild West! - Boise is the extreme of All seasons. - Weather inversion in January is very difficult if you have respiratory issues. - If you require access to handicap services, best of luck. Handicap access is limited, it’s never convenient , sometimes a handicap parking spot is hidden or the store owner is using the spot to wash bikes and spray your car because the store owner is upset that you are using their spot. + boise can be 108 degrees and as soon as the sun goes down it’s paradise. + every season offers different and amazing activities. This one is HUGE. So much to do no matter the season. + Some of the nicest people you will ever meet. + Green belt + best french fries you will ever eat. + Boise River has something to offer in all four seasons. + BSU + between 2 hours everything Idaho is waiting on you. + Not everybody is staying yippee!
@@livinginidaho Fairhope Alabama. Short story. I put my Boise property on the market with the intent on moving closer to the foot hills. I knew it was risky, in that I might create a homeless situation. I sold this property for a hefty profit and got lucky and put a property in Hidden Springs under contract. Turns out the property fleas actually in Cartwright Ranch and the light pollution was brutal and I backed out of the contract. At the last minute I found the most perfect house through a friend. The house was not on the market yet and the seller and I used the title company to handle everything. Until we closed the seller agreed to one of my conditions to rent the property until we closed. There were a couple of issues in the inspection, but seller agreed to fix several items which is normal. Other than there was a smell in the pantry, apparently something busted at some point, I was beyond excited. After living in the house for a few days I noticed another smell coming from the fire place. One night the smell became too much and as I inspected I noticed the fireplace black paint was melting. The chemical smell was beyond toxic and I could taste it. At 1 am the particulate matter (smell) was everywhere in the house. I have reactive airway disease and had to vacate. I found a hotel and the next morning I had to go to the hospital and ended up staying for a bit. The particulate matter destroyed everything I owned except for a few items. I stayed in the hotel for about a month trying to find a house but eventually gave up. With all my stinky stuff I loaded everything into a moving truck in the hotel parking lot. A buddy told me to move to Fairhope and I got on Zillow and located an awesome new house for cheap in a gated community. I owned the house for 26 months and almost doubled my money. Life lesson #239 - selling a home in a craZy market is risky, especially when California peeps drove the market to insane levels paying craZy money for a ranch. It was great being near the beach. The value that Boise brings is its multidimensional aspects. Living near the beach is more single dimensional. This became more apparent over time. Sorry for the long comment, but hopefully someone will read this and not try to play in a housing market when everything is craZy. Fairhope is an awesome place. The people are amazing. I’m an outdoor person with snowshoes, mountain bikes, tents, etc. Idaho rocks and especially Boise!!
@@lifeisgoodafter60 Bless you for going into the details that answers many questions I have. I'm 70 and a bit risk adverse at this point in my life, so I rather limit the excitement and chaos to the fun stuff. Cheers
Arizona's dry heat is definitely a world apart from Tennessee's more humid climate. In contrast, Idaho, especially in the Boise area, has a much drier climate, more similar to Arizona, though not quite as extreme. This dry air can be a lot gentler on the joints for many people. Plus, Idaho's weather is generally milder, so you might find it more comfortable overall. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!
My motivation to move to Idaho is to flee the socio-political chaos of California, and to relocate in political climate that aligns more with my own, but to avoid hot humid climates. In otherwords, I would prefer the 4-season climate of Boise Idaho with the more libertarian-leaning conservative folks, than the same down South. However, and disappointingly, I read that the socio-political climate is changing in Idaho, particularly in Boise, with more "progressives" around. I'm sure Boise still isn't the "belly of the beast" as California is, but it could be in less than a few years.
I have been watching several of your videos I have always loved Idaho, so I am getting ready to retire and would love to move there I love to golf and the outdoors.
Great video. I'm coming from Cleveland Ohio. To me there are no cons. I lived there in 2017 had to move i lived in LOGAN utah and no going back to Boise for the rest of my life.
Joe happy to have you hear. Yes, I've got that on my list of content to make. Can you do me a favor.... can you share a few questions you'd like to get answered.
I second this request! Specifically: taxes as related to retirement, in comparison to other nearby states. Healthcare specialties that might be missing that would require travel to Portland. Thank you!
The biggest retirement concern is taxes. The trifecta: income, sales, and property taxes. Is social security taxed by Idaho? It is by CA as income… Medical comparisons are: cost and availability of services typically needed by retirement aged folks. I imagine they are mostly available only in the larger cities. Thanks again!
I dont mind shoveling snow as along as its not like New England snow. Thats miserable. Isolation is also a pro, love the idea of being surrounded by wilderness and community. No wind love that, don't love that everyone (I'm guilty to) wants to move there, I'm trying to avoid rising housing costs.
Also latitude has to do with the total daylight. I live near the Canadian border in WA and I get 30 min less daylight in the winter compared to Boise as they are well south but I also get 30 min more total day light in the summer.
@@livinginidaho Ferndale. I have family in Idaho Falls and in ID a lot. Salmon, it’s one of favorite small towns in ID and it’s probably one of our choices to retire to
I think Idaho is one of the most compassionate states. Whenever there's a need like food drives or toys needed. They step up totally and meet the needs of the underserved..
My son is living there, we going to check it out this summer, thinking in buying a house for retirement, can we buy a house even if we no live there? we from Hawaii.
I’ve live in Arizona half my life 100 at night in the summer is almost normal I’m kinda ready for a change and plus it’s not windy which I like cuz my hometown in New Mexico is always windy 40-50 average up to 80 mph 😂
Idaho is full.Go somewhere else. The wages are absolute crap and the cost of housing is ridiculous thanks to all the teleworking California transplants. We are a very red state and unfortunately, the transplants are moving to Boise and trying to blue us up. Yes, the state is beautiful. Yes, the people are nice. But the native Idahoans are getting super tired of the political BS and the desire of outsiders to make us California, Oregon, Washington, New York or any of the other states lost to a few radical lefties willing to cheat, steal and break the law to take control of the state.
"The wages are absolute crap and the cost of housing is ridiculous" thanks to all the Silicon Valley tech bros buying up vacation homes, etc. in past 4 years. So interesting to read this forum as people in Boise complaining about same things we here in coastal CA upset about... #migration
So i was thinking about going to Boise for a contracted job. My husband and i are Floridians. We traveled from Midwest to the West Coast but never experienced Idaho. We currently live in Phoenix AZ and we don't like the heat and hard to get used to the air pollution here. My husband has asthma and allergies. AZ is killing him with his allergies. What would you say about someone that has allergies being in Boise? My husband and I love the outdoors and hiked many places. Im more of a water baby than he is 😂 and love water activity. We not concern about snow since we experienced worse snow before. We lived in Lubbock TX and population there was 264,000 in 2022. We loved the vibe because coming from Florida everyone in Lubbock TX are very nice people (NE ppl are even nicer lol). My biggest concern is we are a mix couple so would it be difficult for my husband (African American) to get a job in Boise? We not sure. Yes its sad we have to be concern about this.
im hispanic and Idaho native. we now lives in south Texas but miss idaho so much and luckily get to visit yearly to visit family. I have to say there is a big African american population. I don't see why it wouldn't be a problem in him finding a job. W/that said, I do have to mention, my family and I have been victims of racism when we traveled north of Idaho. this was back in 1990-2002 time. not sure how much has changed since then but I would just be aware of that. other than that Idaho is amazing and the people are wonderful in the Nampa, caldwell, meridian and boise area. good luck!!
It's small right now, but if you keep encouraging people to move here from other states, it won't be smaller city anymore! My husband and I move to Boise in 2017 from Wichita, Kansas because Boise was a comparable size at the time, but not anymore.
I’m thinking about moving there from California…but wait before you point your gun at me! I HAAAATE CALIFORNIA always have! Even tho I was born and raised here, I’ve spent most of my life in Arizona. Got tired of the insane heat, ridiculous cost of living, plus it got cheated to blue. So Boise you’re getting another god fearing red blooded freedom loving American country boy real soon. 🎉
Idk. Lots of people from California say that…and then start trying to change things to California when they get here. People here have a strong dislike for the people’s republic of California coming here and wrecking our state.

I guess that could be the case. I think in some cases we need to go elsewhere. . Always do what is best for you. I do stand by that the traffic is horrible and they drive too fast.@@PaulHale
The traffic is out of control. The city has allowed so mutch building to occur and has done little to improve traffic. Many roads are still single lanes trying to move 3 to 4 times more vehicles than when these roads were built. And they wonder why theres so much road rage.
Lots of fake conservatives here. For instance, people conflate “being Christian”, with religious freedom. Far more progressive churches in the Treasure Valley pretending to be Christian, but far too progressive and not following true biblical teachings.
You can also tell who has never been outside of idaho by the way they reject growth and progression. Get out once in a while and see how advanced the world has become.
Thank you so much for this , we live in Omaha NE departing from the military as an air force family as business owners and looking forward to the move 😊
In Idaho Falls, you're meeting for a group cycle ride. It's mid June, a sunny day, but the temperature is in the mid 30's and blowing 30-40 mph at 8:am.
I've lived around Phoenix for over 45 years and watched it grow, but instead of centralizing services and planning ahead, for the last half of my years here PHX has had to try to play catch up with freeways, smart expansion, infrastructure, and services, and for me it is always too little too late. I still love the state, but city management in general has been poor and there isn't as nice of a community feel as their once was. Smaller towns like Gilbert and further outlying towns are trying, but you miss on the history and such. But as I type I am sitting a block away from Hyde Park, have enjoyed being able to walk everywhere - from Camel's Back to downtown shops and stops, to the river walk, with almost EVERYONE I pass saying hello, striking up conversations, and willing to share their favorite places around here. And you have a respectful blend of politics, but within an open community, which even as a conservative Republican (NOT a MAGA RINO) I am loving. Just strong community of 'we the people' living together well from what I have seen. I am sure more rural places lean right, but as we explore I haven't had to see the uglier side of that yet. Or the over-spent, handout entitlement going to far left can bring. It is expensive for housing, but I think folks don't realize that every place that people want to live (Like beach towns and cities) drive prices up. Sucks, but that is how supply and demand, with capitalism works.
Also keep in mind guns. I don't mind since I'm a conservative and I carry everywhere I go, but everyone is carrying. Even in places like the Boise Towne Square Mall which is technically a gun free zone, most of the time there are people in the mall carrying a firearm. Also if you're not a conservative you're not going to fit in well here. Most people in the state will shun you if you are a democrat.
I hear Texans say the same thing they’re sick of California people moving in and voting Blue. I’ve never understood why people feel. They got the right to tell somebody how to vote just because they move into town.
Yeah, the apartment I rented 7 years ago for a reasonable price now rents for more than double that. Whose income has increased that much? I left and I couldn't afford to live there now. The small city feel is gone and the traffic is terrible. It's fine if you have lots of money. And the politics ... well don't go there if you have a difficult pregnancy. The place is losing Ob-Gyns like crazy.
I'm in Blaine county, but for the new people thinking about moving to Boise, can you make a video about ev chargers? Just for the ones that have EVs. Maybe?
Thanks for watching. For a list of ev chargers in the Boise are you can check this out www.cityofboise.org/programs/climate-action/electric-vehicle-charging-stations/
Your videos. lol. My company has branches in Nampa, Meridian, and Boise and one over in Twin Falls. I will be able to transfer as I run our Salem Oregon location now and will be able to take a sales territory over there. my wife is into a pediatrics nursing career upon graduation and is going to try to get some sort of residency program at St. Luke’s. we are newlyweds who met after raising five adult sons between the two of us, and our empty nesters, and very young for our ages. Financially, Caldwell makes the most sense just from doing 100s of searches on Zillow.
interest rates are going up and prices are coming down. People are on the fence. If interests rates go down, pricing will increase, demand will go up and inventory will go down.
Your right, Hemmingway did live in Idaho, but it wasn't Boise... He lived 3 hours east in Sun Valley Idaho. I did a video on Sun Valley - th-cam.com/video/pQReVW9l4Ik/w-d-xo.html
tell everyone that boise is terrible and to stay away, we dont need to grow and become a big city. its a good size. stop coming here and making the traffic worse lol
The political environment is another factor. Guys in old pickups with Trump flags and confederate flags driving around, or congregating in parks and showing their guns to each other. Dumbass politicians like Raul Labrador. Traffic is stupid - the area was never well planned to handle traffic - far worse than you’d expect for a city of Boise’s size. Hot as hell in the summer - so hot that fish don’t bite. Outdoor activity - yes. Wanna-be big city politics. I relate all this having lived in Boise in the late 80’s and in Caldwell in the last few years. Houses super expensive - think California prices.
Home prices the same as CA?? I cannot stand that people from Idaho have such arrogant and contemptuous opinions about people from a state they have never been and only have info from TH-cam videos. My CA home sold for 1.1m. My home here cost me 370k all in. You’re welcome for the In N Out (Top Flight etc) btw.
@@scrwwea_nhl_hut5288quit acting like some disgusting white knight liberal. California is a failed state that was ruined by progressivism. People sell their shack on the beach for $4m and go pay $500k for a 120k house in Idaho, forcing Idahoans out of the housing market.

I appreciate the quality of your videos but I think some of the things that I’m looking for when moving to a new place are missing in this video 😅 I’m looking for restaurants, comic book stores, movie theaters, museums/gardens etc. In this video, I think the only con for me was the hot summers (I hate summer) and that it doesn’t get enough snow 😂 oh well, I’ll be there soon anyway.
thank you so much for sharing. This information definitely helps.
I’m glad it was helpful.
I am moving here around this time next year. Cannot wait!!
It’s a great place to live and it’s a city on the rise jobs are coming in and so are more opportunities it’s a great place to settle down
Where are you moving from?
As someone who can no longer drive, my big questions are walkability and mass transit. My secondary question is health care and elder care availability.
David, great questions. Instead of typing things out here feel free to just give me a call 208-264-3211 and I'll see how I can help answers those for you.
Yea, probably best to stay in California
I’m from 10 mins outside Boston, Massachusetts. You can barely afford anything here anymore and I make a great living as a union electrician. Watching this video makes me wanna move and transfer unions to the Boise local
Just got off the phone with a guy doing exactly that from Texas. He'll be moving up and transfer to this IBEW here in the Boise area. Have you considered coming out for a scouting trip?
This is hugely helpful!! I'm in PDX and it's full of plusses, but there's something about a place that's more 'homey' that is appealing about Boise. Also-- I could learn how to surf! And paddleboard! And get outdoor wheels for my roller skates! I'm going to review more of your offerings for sure.
thinking of moving to Boise next year, I have done lots of research and boise has Ben the best over all
Dude you have a Montero! Loving the videos. We are looking to move to the area from Bend and this has been very helpful. I also have a Montero so it’s good to know I won’t be the only one 😉
I wouldn’t miss the snow. I miss the south im from South Carolina . And miss it . We have snow and I do not miss it. I’m thinking some day I might head back to South Carolina . But I am interested in watching more content so I did subscribe.
This is also me I subscribed on both channels .
Hi,
Boise State University to me is a PRO. A major university for academics and sporting events. Although the town of Boise is not considered a college town, BSU is a PRO.
The traffic is bad all the locals will dislike you especially if your from California
Where in the east coast other than Florida do you get to wear shorts year around.... Nc,sc,va,tn ga are all known for having 4 clear seasons
Some of my data:
- Boise is a LONG way from anywhere.
+ Green belt
+ best french fries you will ever eat.
+ Boise River has something to offer in all four seasons.
+ BSU
+ between 2 hours everything Idaho is waiting on you.
+ Not everybody is staying yippee!
Thanks for watching and sharing all this helpful info. Where did you move to when you left?
Cheers
i lived in AZ for 23 years and then moved to TN. Now I have arthritis symptoms with the damper weather, etc. Any info you can share?
Congrats on the upcoming move. Thanks for watching. We’re here is you need help.

We just found your video channel and love it! Any chance that you can do one on retirement and healthcare in the Boise area?
Boise is like a hidden gem that’s been discovered.
Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Also latitude has to do with the total daylight. I live near the Canadian border in WA and I get 30 min less daylight in the winter compared to Boise as they are well south but I also get 30 min more total day light in the summer.
You’re right. Thanks for sharing and watching. You in Bellingham?
@@livinginidaho Ferndale. I have family in Idaho Falls and in ID a lot. Salmon, it’s one of favorite small towns in ID and it’s probably one of our choices to retire to
I think Idaho is one of the most compassionate states. Whenever there's a need like food drives or toys needed. They step up totally and meet the needs of the underserved..
My son is living there, we going to check it out this summer, thinking in buying a house for retirement, can we buy a house even if we no live there? we from Hawaii.
Yes you can buy a house if you don't live here. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
I’ve live in Arizona half my life 100 at night in the summer is almost normal I’m kinda ready for a change and plus it’s not windy which I like cuz my hometown in New Mexico is always windy 40-50 average up to 80 mph 😂
Does Boise have many travel baseball teams? If there wasn't a year-round league, this would be deal-breaking for us.
W/that said, I do have to mention, my family and I have been victims of racism when we traveled north of Idaho. this was back in 1990-2002 time. not sure how much has changed since then but I would just be aware of that. other than that Idaho is amazing and the people are wonderful in the Nampa, caldwell, meridian and boise area. good luck!!
First Off there is not a z in Boise.. People need to learn how to pronounce the City name.
I love living in Boize. I also like how I say boize.
That the way people say! I didn’t pronounce Boise with “z” correctly until I realized it!! 🤭😅
Thanks for watching and commenting
I'm sure it's Boyzee, isn't it, if not it is now!
It’s prounounced “Boy-see.” There is no Z sound. I grew up here, and I don’t know anyone who uses a harsh “Z” sound.
It's small right now, but if you keep encouraging people to move here from other states, it won't be smaller city anymore! My husband and I move to Boise in 2017 from Wichita, Kansas because Boise was a comparable size at the time, but not anymore.
To be fair, Witchita is also significantly larger now
He’s a realtor. That’s his job.
you act like you’re not part of the problem lady relax 😂
I’m thinking about moving there from California…but wait before you point your gun at me! I HAAAATE CALIFORNIA always have! Even tho I was born and raised here, I’ve spent most of my life in Arizona. Got tired of the insane heat, ridiculous cost of living, plus it got cheated to blue. So Boise you’re getting another god fearing red blooded freedom loving American country boy real soon. 🎉
Have you move to boise yet?
How is it?
They probably won’t kill you if you move to Idaho for work, family or other necessary reason 😅
Idk. Lots of people from California say that…and then start trying to change things to California when they get here. People here have a strong dislike for the people’s republic of California coming here and wrecking our state.
Boise sounds very friendly 🫤
By Fryday June 14TH, 2024 I'll be

airport is great, good Doctors, but Traffic is terrible and they drive way too fast
Unless you need a good OB/GYN.
I find the traffic to be just fine... I think it really depends on what you're use to. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Does it snow In Idaho
100000 percent.
It's all good until it's 100+ for 3-wks straight
Tell me about it! It's so hot right now
Bro it’s been over a hundred degrees for over 120 days here in az 😂
Where are some river spots good to take kiddos?
If you're comin to Idaho, LEAVE YOUR DAMN POLITICS!
Thanks for watching
Lots of fake conservatives here.
For instance, people conflate “being Christian”, with religious freedom.
Far more progressive churches in the Treasure Valley pretending to be Christian, but far too progressive and not following true biblical teachings.
Born and raised in the treasure Valley, Boise was great until McLean became mayor.
You never talk about lewiston. It's a nice little town. Can get to bigger town's. You can get to them in a few hrs.
I’m thinking about moving to Boise
You can tell that you’re not from Boise, because you pron it with a Z
Thats correct!
You can also tell who has never been outside of idaho by the way they reject growth and progression. Get out once in a while and see how advanced the world has become.
@@Paul-nm3cw Is this in response to the pronunciation comment? What does someone correcting the pronuciation of their hometown have to do with travel?
Ive lived here my entire life and i pronounce it with a z.
@@Paul-nm3cw if by growth you mean numbers, then that is NOT progression; that's congestion and brings a lot of problems with it.
Pros: none
Cons: everything

Im from Omaha too and I love it here in Boise!!
In Idaho Falls, you're meeting for a group cycle ride. It's mid June, a sunny day, but the temperature is in the mid 30's and blowing 30-40 mph at 8:am.
AMMON & REXBURG
Don’t forget the foxtail/grass-ons that get in your socks and dog’s ears. For this reason you should only visit. 😊
Love a good red state ❤.

I hear Texans say the same thing they’re sick of California people moving in and voting Blue. I’ve never understood why people feel. They got the right to tell somebody how to vote just because they move into town.
ITS FAR too expensive now. It's a mini california.

Your videos. lol. My company has branches in Nampa, Meridian, and Boise and one over in Twin Falls. Financially, Caldwell makes the most sense just from doing 100s of searches on Zillow.
Great talking with you today! Looking forward to helping with the move.
Prices are coming down. Influx of new residents is declining
interest rates are going up and prices are coming down.

Toxic politics
The political environment is another factor. Guys in old pickups with Trump flags and confederate flags driving around, or congregating in parks and showing their guns to each other. Dumbass politicians like Raul Labrador.
Traffic is stupid - the area was never well planned to handle traffic - far worse than you’d expect for a city of Boise’s size.
Hot as hell in the summer - so hot that fish don’t bite.
