Great info DTang… what’s interesting to me is that these entry level balls seem to have a place in league situations when urethane is not used. But the big sellers are the balls with more core, stronger covers…
If you feel like your ball doesn't hook enough, roll it slower (believe it or not, it works for house balls too). I threw my solid reactive on heavy oil today and couldn't get it to hook because I realized I was throwing it too fast, hard, and wasn't using the outer parts of the lane (16 lbs ball too). So I slowed down, focused more, concentrated on accuracy and consistency, and it hooked. (I detox my ball 4 games before this specific session and didn't resurface my ball so I'm gonna go do that)
I've just started league with my hubby amd son and i maybe bowled 30 times in my life. Once we started league i realkzed there was so much to bowling and i have a lot to learn. Just got my first ball and now i need lessons thank you fir all you do
Not trying to troll but having a video about beginner balls then talking about friction points and intermediate to advanced concepts is asking for too much for a new beginner. Been bowling for over 40 years, 40 years ago I could count on mid 180's to high 180's average but about 20 years ago went to newer style bowling ball with aggressive coverstock and immediately added 20 pins to my average. Just discovered your channel and really enjoying it.

A lot of bowlers are very aggressive in their style, me included. I have a high rev rate so these types of balls are good for when the lanes are dry. Allows me to keep my angles more closed for longer. I could buy expensive pearls and get the length I need but why do that when I can get the same results out of a cheaper ball. Bowling is skill based. There's no reason to buy expensive equipment
I only began with house balls, and then I purchased a Zen Soul and ice spare ball to begin with. Now, later on, I've gained further knowledge of the sport, I've now got a Gem, Pitch Black, Phaze II, Rubicon UC3, RSTX-3, FATE, Zen U and to finish it off Exotic Gem.
Darren's knowledge made me the bowler I am today, I'd love to see a video of him explaining launch angles and get his opinion on his strategy.
My first ball was a Track Stealth and honestly, I love it. I've been playing for 4 months now and my current HS is 212
my BSY is getting drilled this week. Looking forward to learning how to hook. Thanks for the in depth explanation about the differences between the 2 entry level balls.
I love my Tropical Surge (the red one) and want the purple/gold Surge for this fall. I have really soft ball speed and will try getting that Electrify for my bag as well. This fall is my golden anniversary year of league bowling (50 years, where did the time go??) 👀 Thanks for showing all levels of equipment, Darren!

I got was averaging around 120 with house balls, I bought the tropical surge and automatically started going 150 and above so it’s a great ball to start with.
Im at like 130 avg on house balls I hope I get that kinda improvement lol

Sometimes I feel like Darren has so much knowledge about bowling that it can sometimes be his worst enemy. He will overthink and over complicate the situation that he is in, when in competition, that it just ends up hurting him. 😢 watching him explain the low end balls to new bowlers in this video was a little painful to say the least 😅 but it’s all good. We all know he means well and Darren’s is a great guy so keep up the good work! 😊

I am a new bowler (and now in my first league wish me luck lol) and seeing your videos from ball reviews to literal tips and tricks helped me alot, the league videos are entertaining and the pba tour videos were suspenseful and joyful, this channel was so good and im so glad that i saw this channel and discovered it in the first place.
I have the tropical surge and have it drilled 2 handed it hooks a ton even lane is oiled in the middle and dry on the sides but could be factor they are wood lanes
I just dropped mine at the pro shop to drill it 2 handed. I been shooting it with my thumb in layout and had to rotate it a ton!!! Glad I saw your comment cause I was skeptical on getting it drilled properly and if I was wasting time and money
I love the Tropical Surge Emerald, the best ball of the surges. Bowl outside of Columbus on basically wood lanes. My high end bowling balls stay in my bag and look like new. Holiday Lanes is to far for me to bowl there.

I got a Raw Hammer as my first ball. TNT was my second got it a few months ago. I’m gonna get a Radical Innovator Solid soon and drill it strong for tournaments. I’ve currently bowling in my second ever league.
From someone who went from a motiv thrill to a black widow it's a crazy difference I was throwing one handed but now I throw 2 handed and I can't even throw my black widow cause I average 500 revs but only can throw like 17 18 mph so idk I can throw black widow I just have to be a lot left and throw into the oil and throw faster than normal
My PSO recommended the Surge over the hustle series for burn. The lower RG makes playing the fallback easier. What are your thoughts on this?
In 2016 my first ball was and still is a tropical breeze, today I am going get my second and upgraded ball
I have mostly strong balls and lately I got a few weaker ones and one of them is that green and black tropical surge and I was amazed at how well it rolled on a fresh house shot.
I couldn't miss the pocket rolling over 4th arrow.

I went back up to the counter and I asked the guy behind it. Are you sure this is a fresh house shot? He said yes. No one's rolled on it and leak ended so there's no league on Saturdays
Tropical surge grape was my first ball and eventually i shined it up real good and made it my spare ball
My first ball I bought was a 900 global and I love it. My average is at 154 now but I’ll get better the more I pick up my spares and add to my arsenal

What’s a good ball for light oil/drier conditions? I have a hyroad, and when the lane starts drying up, I find it very hard to hit the pocket

Would it be a bad idea for a beginner bowler to get a purple hammer? I am a very casual beginner who got interested after the purple hammer controversy, and I just want to see how it feels to throw it. Would that be detrimental for me long-term?
I bought a ball back in 2010, didn’t know what I was doing, they put tip plugs in and I got a bit… thicker, I can throw is two hand but it bothered me that I didn’t use it like what I saw as a throw… didn’t know two handed was a thing. Since breaking my wrist half a dozen times I have confided in two hand.
I’m more confused about which bowling ball to buy than before. 😂

Would these balls still be good for someone who has been bowling for years but doesn't know anything as far as what ball to use?
Wish I had seen this before I bough my Tropical surge. I like my ball but already see it’s too weak for what I need. I carry a 180 bag with my Surge but I think I can do better. It just doesn’t plow through the pocket unless I’m on almost the exact board I play. If I kiss it by one board it’s high or low. I’m ready for another ball but I really have no idea where to go from where I am ball wise.

I've been using a Zen for 2 years, and I just got a Summit. Love them both, and you're the pro, but I'd recommend the Zen to anyone, because Zen ball good! That Summit though... it's had a good effect on my game. Are they "entry-level"? I dunno, but I like them!

There is a ball that Elite made, it's a green urethane ball with a white skull on one side, I bet you can't find one. My dad got it thrown in with a different ball. Wish I could find another, it is the best ball over ever used.

Was wondering as someone who bowls completly straight (no reaction, no spin, no tips or fancy shit needed, 3 holes with thumb) with 170 average what your thoughts are on the Brunswick White dot 300? I was thinking about upgrading from a 12lbs to a 14lbs since I'm missing sleepers due to deflection on dead on shots and over 200 consistently when i hit the spares, also hitting the pocket and leaving 1 up, I have the curse of the 9's right now, currently throwing 20-23mph with a 12lbs, I picked up a house 14 the other night and striked out 6 frames with more control. I really don't know what ball to buy since I don't bowl like everyone else so was wondering if you could offer some direction or if my choice is a good one thanks. :D

Really love the tropical! Personally I enjoy weaker balls as I rev the ball too much with how low my ball speed is
I have a rhino but its not hooking as much as i want it too.
Rhinos aren't really balls meant for a bigger hook but try throwing slower by standing more up because leg speed = ball speed or change the surface with a pad if you have one
