    WE HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS AND WE'RE SO THANKFUL TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU AND TO THE WRITERS AND DEVELOPERS WHO SHARED THIS INCREDIBLE, APOCOLYPITIC, AND TERRIBLY TENDER STORY WITH US. Crying into infinity!!!!!!
    And yes, we're mad about that unfinished thought and that we didn't get to dance to burning poetry. Hopefully next time. What a ride.
    Let's play Disco Elysium!

    Also an additional comment... the final ending sequence always makes me sad that we were robbed of a sequel to this masterpiece. The studio went down in the most Disco Elysium way possible really. Which is both incredibly sad and fitting.

    It is nice to see someone acknowledge that Jean is quite likely rather justified in his treatment and suspicions of Harry, based on their personal history. Because I have seen a good deal of lets players who simply hate on him for being mean. Which I think it a shame, because I think he is a rather tragic character, who does actually care deeply about Harry. Which is why he is so angry at him for constantly spiraling, being terrible and pushing everyone away.

    I’d throw in another vote for outer wilds (not ‘worlds’) its right up there with disco elysium which is the highest praise I can think to give a game. I’d also echo not to look into it at all, the less known about it the better
    Detroit become human would be fun too, and telltales the walking dead is another good choice based game
    Also if you never noticed the main menu art for disco is the deserter’s pov of martinaise from the island, which is a cool detail you usually only notice once the credits roll
    Great playthrough overall

    Let's just share a moment of silence for all the main designers, writers, creators (including the lead, Robert Kurvitz) who got mercilessly fucked over by their investor and don't even work in the studio anymore.

    I feel a bit sad. I've watched this playthrough for so long and now it is over. That is the nature of things, I guess. Thank you for sharing your playthrough and being so invested in the game/story!
    I have recommended this game before but... Spiritfarer! Also a game about loss in many ways, but very different. It is story heavy and you can either co-op or do single player... and there is a cat which one of you play as! With lovely animations! Additionaly I support the Dragon Age idea!
    As for Disco Elysium, it is one of my favourite games. When I first played it I felt like a lot of stuff resonated with me. In part because I had been in a bit of a rough spot, although not Harry 'I am a mess' Du Bois rough. Plus, depending on how you play Harry the story could end on a somewhat positive note.
    My first ending was a bit different... but there was especially ONE, BIG difference related to me not being able to warn Kim during the trial.
    SPOILERS!
    Instead of Kim I got a new party member: Cuno! Yes, seriously. I much prefer Kim, but honestly, I quite liked it and think everyone should have a Cuno companion experience at least once. Among other things it enhanced the "juvie" aspect of Harry, for me at least. Additionaly, you know the Kim/Harry animation if you don't do anything for a long time? You got another one with Cuno where he sits on your shoulders!!

    • @jakubb9498

      Cuno defending you (Harry) at the end brought tear to my eye. "This oink-oink mootherfucker solved this shit on this island. Case solved go home or fuck off pigs".

    Thanks for the playthrough, congratulations on finishing the game👑. What a ride this game is. So many unexpected twists and turns, even after multiple playthroughs. You can think you know someone after several playthroughs, and suddenly something's slightly different and they do or say something you totally didn't expect. One of those moments I experienced was actually genuenely disturbing.

    It's been a great playthrough, thank you!
    Also, if I had a reál for every time Kim and Harry left an elderly catatonic person on a cold beach with the assumption that someone else would pick them up later, I'd have two reál. Which isn't a lot. But it's weird that it happened twice.

    I feel like the ending of Disco Elysium is very telling in many ways, not of the game itself but also the people playing it. I always half ironically thought of Jean as *the* final boss of Disco Elysium. Not a test of Harry, but the *player* .
    Do *you* understand the weight the past holds over the present?
    Can *you* see humanity in the most broken of places?
    Can *you* understand the absolute torture it must be to *truly* care about Harry, literally watching a man perform a fucking lobotomy on himself while actively refusing any and all help?
    Or is it all just a *fuck you* ? And you're deserving of getting the benefit of the doubt because of (and at the same time in spite of) all you did?
    I feel like the *consider only the past seven days* joke is very telling of the *vibe* of this whole play-through. a genuine understanding of the fact that to anyone whose been alive for more than seven days Harry is *Harry* , and more generally that you don't magically *undo* bad things by doing good things, are elements I feel like define this whole game and are things i feel like a lot of people just choose not to acknowledge, But are very much acknowledged here.
    An even bigger ramble about that, because I'm feeling the Disco Elysium vibes:
    On the "good things don't undo bad things" train of thought, i feel that a very central theme to DE is how things are processes, not end points.
    like how Joyce (early on) half ironically says Revachol was built to *solve* history, or how all the ideologies generally center around *solving* society, or how the whole ex-thing part of the story is about *Solving* your relationship.
    But history is only *done* when everyone is dead, society is only *done* if everyone is either a hivemind or dead, and the only way for you to be *done* is by being dead.
    Things can be made better but perfection is only achievable by ceasing to exist. Very Disco stuff, love all the weird esoteric half-morals that can be extracted from this game.

    You two are quite entertaining sorry comrades, thank you Anthropolokitty. What a fun playthrough to watch and be part of. Disco Elysium is Cerebral! It makes me sad that we will most likely never get Disco Elysium 2 since intellectual property had been stolen from original creators by useless capitalist scummy investor. Also thank you for your (sometimes unhinged) thought train detours, I learn a lot about New Zealand thanks to you. That episode when you discussed physics of Call Do Ma Ma Daqua canceling itself was the funniest thing ever.
    Shout out for the viewer that recommended this game to you. I hope you will do more RPGs with hard moral choices. Fallout New Vegas is my recommendation, also Cyberpunk with new DLC and patches is a solid option ;) Meanwhile I might watch some of your old Witcher 3 playthrough.
    Also thank you to Twin Peaks, True Detective season 1, British See Power Band and Karl Marx.
    Spoilers:
    P.S. In the future when you are ready for your 2nd playthrough make sure to unlock talking horrific necktie, do drugs, smoke, round kick fascist racist in the face, and maybe even recruit junior officer Cuno to RMC. Communist political quest and ultra hustler get rich scheme is fun as well.

  • @Coffeepanda294
    @Coffeepanda294 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think I already suggested Night in the Woods --it has some similar vibes to Disco Elysium, and has plenty of food for thought for two social anthropologists.
    I don't know if it's the kind of game you usually play, but Not For Broadcast, where you play as the person who edits a news channels' broadcasts as they happen, looks really exciting and funny from its launch trailer. Apparently it gives you a lot of freedom in how to present (and distort) news and interviews and whatnot.
    If you want to try a horror game, though, I played Bramble recently and loved it. Scandinavian folkore horror, takes about 3-4 hours to play.

    Thanks for a really interesting and fun playthrough. I've really enjoyed all your discussions and theories and tangents.
    Regarding the game's staying power and replayability, for me it's not just the branching paths and *different* content you might see on a second playthrough, but also that it feels like enough effort has been put into the writing that you (or I, at least) pick up on themes and nuances on a second playthrough that you just didn't grasp the first time around.
    As for some new games to play, I'd love to see your take on Outer Wilds, Dredge and Pyre. They're all shorter than this and might be easier to fit into a schedule, but all have really good stories that have stuck with me long after I finished the games

      Also, I love how the game lets you be a total clown (not to mention a-hole) if you want to, but then suddenly throws this tribunal at you in the end, forcing you to actually take responsibility for your actions. Such a good way to balance all the freedom the game gives you.

    Just logged off from work a few hours ago to the beginning of two weeks' holiday and this drops into my feed, life is good. Thank you both for what is in my opinion the best playthrough of this game in the entirety of TH-cam or Twitch - entertaining, funny, differences of opinion, made me think about the game differently, intelligent discourse on every subject touched on - lightning in a bottle. Can't believe you guys started this over 18 months ago!
    In terms of suggestions, I have only one, HARD recommendation - Slay The Princess. Visual novel with dialogue choices and massive reactivity, branching events based on your decisions and lots of Momo agonising over the lot of it guaranteed or your money back (within two hours on Steam!). Also it's not too long a game which might prove a nice palate-cleanser.
    Once again, bravo on this whole adventure. Revachol forever, comrades!

      I remember when Outer Wilds lost multiple game awards to Disco Elysium and I was flabbergasted that something could even possibly come close to Outer Wilds in people’s minds.
      After playing DE, it’s definitely my second favorite game of all time but Outer Wilds feels like it’s almost impossible to beat for me at this point

    • @eatoneaton
      @eatoneaton 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@henryzelman4541 it was a weird year for awards in general. Outer Wilds came out and was instantly universally beloved but barely got acknowledged even in nominations. Disco won best narrative, best indie and best rpg almost everywhere but somehow wasn't considered for game of the year by most outlets. And The Outer Worlds was for some reason (I hope, not just because Obsidian is a bigger name) despite the fact that the press was at best lukewarm about it

    That was great playthrough!
    Disco Elysium is the greatest work of art I ever experienced. I seen works that made me emotional. Planescape Torment did that, that was the game that I considered the best written until it got surpassed by Disco Elysium. So did some movies like 7th Seal by Ingmar Bergman or Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman. Goya paintings. More music that i can recall.
    But with Disco Elysium, when talking to Deserter and Phasmid I straight up cried. Even seeing your finale still made me emtional.

    This game is a RIDE. Really enjoyed your first playthrough and will absolutely watch the shit out of the unhinged second one. As far as suggestions go, I'd recommed Outer Wilds. It's kind of a space exploration sci-fi archeology game that's hard to explian without spoilers. Largely because figuring out what that game is is the best part of it. But I'll say it's very unique and intersting in its mechanics and narrative that deals with a lot of human and philisophical stuff that I would be really interested to see through your eyes.
    But even if you don't do that, thank you anyway. Really glad I dicovered your channel, definately will stick around

      ps. Outer Wilds not to be mistaken with The Outer Worlds. Both came out the same year, are both about quirky space adventure and have similar names, which sometimes causes people a lot of confusion. But they are, in fact, two different games. I'm recommending Outer Wilds

    My take on The Pale is that its something like an 'Anti-idea' phenomena, a thing that cancels all thought and being around it. It came in to the world alongside humans when they had their first thought, acting as a reflection of that by standing as opposite to human ideas. While human ideas and imagination can be vivid, varied, and devided amongst opinions, The Pale is featureless, singular, and uncompromisingly indivisable from itself. I think that it may have happend kind of like what happens when youre striking a match in a dark room, Yes it does create light but it also suddenly casts the things around you into shadows to, and as the light grows weaker the shadows get stronger and closer. Yet another great metaphore within the game about human nature, as the light of human ideas grows dimmer and fainter the shadows of The Pale have come keeping in all the more...

    • @gimpscam9976
      @gimpscam9976 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes for sure in some aspect. I agree for most of it based of that one dialogue about no trees absorb thoughts. It really is interesting and maybe someday we’ll get more about it. It mentions a few times about the past in the pale and All that. I like to believe instead of ‘anti-idea’ it is all the ideas. It absorbs thoughts, words, and eventually numbers. From the specific to the generalization. Multiple times you hear the last and future from the pale. I’m complicating it in my own head and explaining it poorly.

    • @Anthropolokitty
      @Anthropolokitty  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I love every single theory about the pale, they're all so beautiful in their own way. I think it's one of the geniuses of the game that they don't actually tell you what it is for sure, so all these theories can blossom.
