I'd love to be a writer for a show like this. You get paid to learn niche facts and occasionally write a pun like, "and the gas barbeque became a /hot/ commodity."

Yeah, I looked up the prices. Some of these cost as much as a professional range from Viking or Wolf. Now I'm no engineer but that seems a bit off to me. How can a simple grill cost the same as a complicated 48" range? Oh right, because dumb @sses will pay that for one.

I wonder what the benefit of those burners are. I got a cheap char broil grill with "anti flare up infrared" tech which is essentially a giant metal bowl over the burners. I've had worse flareups on that grill than any other because all the grease pools in the middle. That's a myth btw. People say charcoal ads a smoky flavor, but that's incorrect - Charcoal has no scent to it (it's carbon), it's the burning fat that does it. In a blind test you wouldn't know the difference. What does makes a difference is the use of wet wood chips to add the right smokiness to the meat, but you can do that with a gas grill too. As a long time fan of charcoal grills, i now actually prefer the gas ones - they heat up uniformly and you have greater control over the temp.
