That Seven Nation Army riff using the power chords is a great exercise not only to learn the power chords, but to transition from the 10th fret to the second fret so quickly is difficult because not only are your hands moving up and down, but your fingers are coming closer together and farther apart depending on the direction you go. Hello Justin, your course is just amazing it's been 4 months now that i started guitar and i'm improving day by day thanks to you. I just wanted to share a QUICK TIP that i learned through my practice session: if you re struggling with a chord shape or a chord change or a song or anything, just practice it hard like for a week or more and when you feel frustrated just stop and move to something else, come back to it after a week or so you will find that you improved drastically at it or just mastered it. i think that process gives your brain a time to rest toward that specific exercise and solidify your mind muscle connection to perform it. like the gym basically u need to to have rest periods in between the sessions. I'm not sure if it's really a thing but it works for me, hope this will help you guys as well.
i've been playing about 18 months now and doing great but i've learnt that for me there is not much payback in practicing the same thing for any more than half an hour to an hour max. after that length of time my progress slows to the point of being totally unproductive but coming back fresh the next day it's like i've been practicing in my sleep and the progress comes quick. i'm ok putting in long sessions but i have to break it up into varying different exercises no longer than what i previously mentioned. i'm sure everyone is different but i'd suggest anyone with a similar problem to me tries the same. it's actually staggering to me how much you can improve a skill with small amounts of effort so long as you are consistent putting those small efforts in.

I tended to play around with the guitar for a few weeks, then i might pick it up for 5 min every 6 months or so, mostly because I was bored of strumming c d g a f etc, and hadn’t come across a teacher like you. Power cords 🎸🎼have got me in to jamming my new LP/ Yamaha thr10 with tons of great songs thanks to you Justin. I am back to try again. Your open chords lessons got me in a regular gig with a band playing 12-string rhythm in an all-acoustic band 10 years ago. Often though when we did our covers I would have to watch the other guys play while all I could do was tap the beat out on the face of my guitar because I could not play barre chords. My problem was not in making the shapes, or getting all of the notes to ring clean on F-shape chords. My problem was hand cramps. I have long arms and a wide chest, my wrist would be bent at a full 90 degrees and after 30 minutes I couldn't even hold the neck of my guitar due to a hand cramp. Problem finally solved! I have turned the guitar so that the neck is next to my cheek, (like a classical guitar player). Now I can play for much longer periods. Needed to share with my peers here.
many years ago i permanantly dislocated my left pinky and pretty much gave up playing outside of goofing off but then a friend "politely" reminded me about power chords and open tunings which allowed me to begin playing again

When doing anything that has an element of art to it, it is important to learn how to do things "correctly" so that you have the skills and knowledge to allow deliberate "mistakes" which elevate your art beyond the baseline. The concept of "correctly" is applied in general, but there are always exceptions which you can recognise if you properly understand why certain techniques are considered "correct." For example, in the Nine Inch Nails song Beside You In Time towards the end there is a deliberate discordant note which is technically incorrect, but Trent Reznor has the skill and experience to make the choice to use it deliberately for the emotional response it evokes.

Different notes and your song probably remains the same key. Actually, your index finger is pointing at the root note. Knowing the notes on the bottom 2 strings up to the 12th fret helps A LOT when finding where to put down your fingers for power chords. I made a mnemonic to remember the notes at 9:30. It's "Green Cars Are Driven By Elephants"
