With my long commute to work, it does not pay me to go in just to clock in. Fortunately, I am allowed to work remotely except for special meetings when in-person attendance is required.

There is some value in workforce cohesion and working relationships are uniquely fostered by physical collocation. If you’re going to drive into the office, might as well do some work and chat up with your coworkers. There’s plenty of flexibility to allow for half days that minimize time spent in traffic.

OK, but if you're getting your job done, it's not your employer's place to force that. It's the employer's job to make money and pay you
