- When we first began our journey as guardians, freshly emerged from the Cosmodrome, the Traveler was dormant, hovering over our Last City, seemingly without purpose. As the years unfolded and enemies invaded our home, the Traveler fought back, assisted us, and even communicated through various means. Today, we are going to examine the instances where the Traveler has spoken to different characters: our Guardian, the Speaker, Rhulk, and many others. Additionally, we'll explore its strange similarities to the Voice in the Darkness: The Witness.

Considering what we now know, i almost wonder if during dreams of alpha lupi scene right before we saw the pyramids if the people screaming wasn’t the merge process they went through to become the Witness itself.

Noticed this right after that witch queen witness cutscene. I snooped back to listen to the traveler speak and compare it to the witness. And a friend I have even did a sync analysis. It’s the save voices but their pitches are reversed (male va is hight and female va is lower. Compared to the witness having their Va voices unaltered) and I thought this was a cool idea because; before season of the deep. We believed the witness was the opposite of the traveler. So of course it made sense they had a multi-voice but opposite pitches. In so glad to see this comparison on a larger channel now

Everytime I hear "I've been having these strange dreams lately" I can't help but think of Kingdom Hearts.
Maybe the Witness isn't trying to do something against the Traveler's will, but just took it to it's logical conclusion? If the Traveler sounds like the Witness, it'd be more apt to say the Witness sounds like the Traveler. Since the Witness is essentially a single-being civilization, maybe the Traveler is a multi-species individual? The Traveler nutures civilizations, then absorbs them once they reach their zenith into itself as a sacrifice. In that sense, the Traveler would 100% be a farmer or gardener. Gardeners do what exactly? They tend to a garden to REAP a harvest... The Traveler could 100% be "evil".

I don’t know. It stayed with the Witness’s species for eons. And they were post-singularity.
The ghosts have described being inside the Traveler as numerous beings. I think they are just a different kind of soul as to what the witness is composed. I think about the empty ships are meant to be populated once the final shape takes effect.

The voice actor for the so-called traveler during the tree vision, reminds me a lot of a filtered version of Clovis Bray's voice actor..
What if the traveler did the opposite of the witness? The witness people all merged to become one being, what if the traveler split itself into many (the ghosts)

Super great video man. I wish i could replay the destiny 2 vanilla campaign and all the earlier dlc's up to beyond light. It's crazy to think that no new player will be able to experience the red war, the curse of orsiris, warmind, and all the lore/background context they give. anyways, great video man I really enjoyed watching
The light is the gardener, the dark is the winnower, the traveler is the exception to the rule of their game, and the witness is the knife that the winnower uses to cut down what the traveler grows
Just so we're clear; That cutscene where the Traveler shoots that beam at the Witness. I don't think it was attacking. I think it wanted the Witness to come to it. And invited it inside.
Or it needed to create an opening into the Pyramid so that we may infiltrate it and retrieve Titan.

When I think about The Traveller speaking, I always return to that concept intro of astronauts and blue-eyed woman on Mars. I know that everyone in-game use pronoun "he/him" when they talk about Traveller but it would be more interesting if Traveller was in fact "she" and that woman was her avatar.
The Gardener
It is interesting that the Traveler gets nearly every pronoun associated with it at some point by different people. For me, it's always been a sort of a she/they situation, but on the other hand, the Traveler blurs the lines between organic, mechanical, and metaphysical concept given form. Gender almost seems too simplistic a concept to impose on an entity like the Traveler.
I see the traveler as an it.
Since D2 started I've thought of the Traveler as a she, especially since the Witness is very masc presenting

Something i noticed in the space battle with the witness cutscene thingy, the traveler doesn't seem to attack the witness , it seems like its more inviting it in.
when it spoke to Bray it basically told him the Light gave u these gifts, and u Bray, instead of sharing what u found, u kept it for yourself and your own aggrandisement instead of the greater good, and let himself get further corrupted by the witness. true to form and free will the Traveler said what it said.
I think the Witness more has... "Calmness" in its voice, sure of its goal, hardly straying from "one tone" in a sense. While the Traveler sounded... "Disjointed" in a sense... "confused" or even "shaky" in its words. Tones shifting between words, throughout the sentence.
The Witness is "Sure and Cold" in its tone. While the Traveler sounds more "Disjoined and Shaky" in its choices.

Anybody else find an interesting how the alpha lupi scene shows first D2 supers (we started with in red war) which are the ones getting new supers and aspects in FS
I’m far from a Destiny lore expert, but this is what comes to mind watching this video in anticipation of The Final Shape:
Darkness/The Veil: what is, what was, a fixed existence. 0 or 1.
Light/The Traveler: what could be, possibilities. Quantum physics.

I feel like this story is becoming more like star wars in the sense of the different balances in the force from lightside to awakening the dark side of vice vera because there is lore of siths returning to light
8:12 there’s really not a bit that the Speaker we interact with is the same one that carved that mask. There have been several.
I find it very interesting that the voice of the traveler is similar if not the same voice as singularity the villain in bayonetta 3.

Aren't the Traveller and the Witness player characters/avatars of higher beings basically playing a game against each other that is our universe? In that case they may be a similar kind of being, maybe even from the same higher species, but since we exist inside their game, we only perceive how they appear in it.

its hard o think that i saw the dream cutscene for the first time about 7 years ago now, so much time has passed yet it doesnt feel like much has happened with the story, cayde died, we found a pyramid ship, learned darkness, killed the second hive sibling and learned about the witness and now we are getting ready to stop the end of the universe, it sounds like a lot but 7 years is a long long time :/ im hoping we get a definitive end to this main story in June, i wanna leave ona happy note, i cant play this game for another 7 years, i dont want to see it twist into a dead game, itd crush me

might be a stretch, but during Season of the Drifter, the Nine have the same voice as the Traveler.
We do know that the vex comes from the garden right? So maybe the vex is the winnowers ”chestpieces” in the game it plays, and if so i wonder what the gardeners is
They need way more cutscenes in this franchise. We can't just get voice lines of characters in The Final Shape. They actually need to SHOW characters fighting and actually doing things. They need to portray the scale of this final battle. It can't just be us and two characters per season. It makes things feel way too small.

Since I played red war I KNEW THAT CUTSCENE WITH ALL THE "DEAD PEOPLE" AND THE LIGHT BIRD HAD SOMETHING!!!! I connected all the dead people under water to the story of the witness kinda

The traveler's voice is a singular voice whereas the witness' voice is disjointed. When it speaks there is always an aftereffect when it speaks. Like the merger is incomplete. When the traveler spoke there was no aftereffect. a truly unified voice.
The Speaker never lied to Gaul, he said "I never said it spoke to me" that doesn't mean it never spoke to him, it just means he never said it spoke to him, it did, he just never said that to Gaul.
The tree's that the traveler made look like the gods wood from game of thrones, does it mean something? 🤔
As somebody who didn't pickup destiny until lightfall, I really wish they would bgo back and condens the story so we can play though the earlier content

Ive always speculated this. Upon the witnesses death, all the conscious minds within the witness emerge and seek out the statues their bodies became (all those body like statues we find within pyramid ships are calcified bodies of their race, the witness is made of all their minds and life force, not their physical bodies). This would be similar to ghosts seeking their guardians.
Firstly, thank you for your videos. I now feel like I’m a part of the Destiny story and even redownloaded it.
The Traveller is ancient. It existed before humans, before the Hive and worm gods, and even before The Witness. So why does The Witness sound like that if it is a person? I dunno.
My view. The reason the people of The Witness attacked the Traveller is because it never spoke to them, nor does it speak to the human guardians.
I think The Traveller is either voiceless but speaks in the voice the hearer can perceive OR The Speaker is the literal voice of The Traveller, like a prophet to an unapproachable God.
Another option, the mystical view of many dualistic positions is that the light and dark are one. Therefore, what if The Witness is or will become a “Witness” of the Traveller, as the voice of a man is not in his body (light) but in his consciousness (black, darkness).
Very interested to see how this pans out.
I would like to correct you on the creator of the Speaker's mask. It wasn't the last Speaker, it was the first Speaker to never dream who identified as such as she (in languages that don't conceal the first-person speaker's gender) was born after the Collapse.
Traveller voice sounds older. Like a Grandma Witness. Softer maybe. But older. Agree with the overlapping though. Sounds like many of one.

This was not the Travelers Voice... It was the Gardener who spoke... The glowing Women inside of the paleheart...

the veil is the darkness, the witness is an amalgam of a race long forgotten, merged into one entity that built the pyramids.

Red War was one of the best DLCs ever... pretty engaging with other npcs and you're making story sadly the other one like that was a bit Forsaken and a bit Witch Queen but never close... kinda sad

Destiny lore always makes me rush with nostalgia of the glory days of d1 year 1 and all its hot mess so I then hope on d2 and I loose all drive to play the game … I used to then hop over to destiny 1 but it’s just not the same and I’d rather have a good memory of a old game then to tarnish the memory trying to recreate new ones on a dead game
