As I listened, Caroline, the one constant in your story was the smile I saw on your face as you recalled your wedding(s). You're an easy person to appreciate.

Loved your story and I love your vintage engagement ring ❤️ Both my husband and I had been married before. So after 14 years together I told him I was ready to get married to him. We went to the judge in blue jeans and boots (being from Texas) & that was it. 27 years together now. I have a 1930's 3 diamonds set in platinum wedding ring and wouldn't trade it for the world.

This comment comes so long after your initial post that I am not sure you will ever see it but I got a bit of a chuckle out of your admission that the whole getting married thing was sort of your idea. Mine too. Con and I had been dating for about two years and one day I just said to him, “So, when are we going to get married?”
He sort of gulped and said, “Well, when do you want to get married?” And that was that. We had been married for about 12 years and one day I said to my husband, “You know, you never did ask me to marry you.” He immediately got down on one knee and took my hand and said, “Darlin’….” and I stopped him and said, “Are you sure you want to ask me now? What if I say, ‘no”? Of course I was not about to say no. We were married for not quite 31 years when he died almost 11 years ago.
My engagement ring was also “second hand”. It was my older sister’s original ring and her husband had purchased her a bigger ring so she retired her original ring which I thought was prettier than the bigger and more expensive one her husband got her later. When she heard that we were getting married she gave me the engagement ring and my wedding band was a guard ring that my sister’s engagement ring fit into perfectly. I loved it because since it was not really a set no one else in the world had a set exactly like mine. My only regret about my marriage to my husband is that we didn’t meet and get married when we were much younger. I was 30 and he was 40 when we got married.
I only stumbled onto your channel yesterday and am going back finding your
previous videos so I can watch them. I enjoy seeing fashions for the over 50 crowd. So many TH-camrs who do hauls and try-ons are so young that I have socks older than they are and the things that they love are not really things that I can identify with but when I watched you trying on clothes in the video I saw yesterday I knew that many of the items that you ended up keeping were absolutely things that I would wear also. I’m so glad I found your channel and I am delighted with your “story time” in this video.

Totally agree with you on second hand jewellery i would like to point out to anyone that turns there nose up that all gold is over 4 billion years old and diamonds over a billion so the only difference is the smooth shiny finish that you can get with brand new however a jeweller will polish any marks out anyway. second hand gold\diamonds is the real value of the item as new items are second hand anyway the moment you wear them.

Hi Caroline. I love reading/hearing other peoples Wedding stories too. My wedding was back in June 1983. We got engaged in February that year after meeting 3 months previously, and had a big party to celebrate around the time of my birthday in April. We then decided we were going to get married in the Register Office on 3 September, and also booked our honeymoon in France to start the day after. What we didnt realise was that you had to give plenty of notice to the Registrar if you wanted to get married on a Saturday. So my hubby to be went off to book that date, only to be told that there was no slot available. In despair he asked if there were any cancellations and the Registrar offered him 25th June instead, which he took. That means I only had about 7 weeks or so to plan and do everything. Luckily we got organised in the end it all went off very well. The only thing we couldnt change was the honeymoon booking, so we ended up just having a few days in London and then back to work for a couple of months until we could have our proper honeymoon. Here we are almost 36 years later and still happily plodding on, with two children and two grandchildren having joined us along the way. Oh and my name is also Caroline by the way. ;)

I first saw my hubby when I was 14 and nudged my friend and said ' one day I'm going to marry him!' I was 18 when we married and that was in 1978. Traditional white church wedding, and it was in those days when you moved into your new home on the night of the wedding and my dad didn't want me to go. Only time I ever saw him with tears in his eyes bless him. Anyway, must have been right as we've just had our 39th anniversary. Big medals for us. LOL

I was married twice on the same day,! Registry office and the registrar made a mistake over something (can't remember what now, 49yrs 19th of this month) So we had to start again! 11 people at mine and that was 9 too many. The brim of my hat shook so much!

Finally had a moment to watch your vlog about your wedding days and really enjoyed it. A friend of mine had a similar situation although she didn't find out about the need for a civil ceremony until the morning of the big wedding when her fiance showed up at her house with a judge in tow to tell her that they needed to get the civil ceremony out of the way immediately. She ended up getting married the first time in her pajamas and then went on to get dressed for the main event. How crazy is that?
We got married in a civil ceremony by the Governor and then had our reception the following evening at a friend's house, an outdoor event. It turned a bit breezy and the flame from the burner under one of the chafing dishes set fire to the tablecloth! Fortunately it was put out quickly without too much damage. We set aside the top layer of our wedding cake to save and when we went back to our friend's the next day to pick it up, the same breeze had blown all kinds of dirt and bits of grass and there were several bugs who met their death in the frosting. There was no saving it, into the bin it went.

I loved hearing your wedding story Caroline. We got married in a registry office, right in the middle of a market place, it was not a very nice day as it was February and if I remember right it had been raining, there was no garden to the office and we just stood on the pavement with the shoppers watching and had a few photos taken, not very romantic at all but we are still together and in February next year it will be 54 years. Oh my goodness, now I’ve said that it really is a blooming long time isn’t it. Loved your dress, it still doesn’t look dated does it, absolutely beautiful.x

My funny... everyone had left for the church except my dad and I. I really needed to pee and told my dad who me to "well go then". I pointed to my dress (1987 think lady Diana poofy) and told him he had to hold my dress while I went to the loo. My dad burst out laughing saying "the last time I took you to the toilet, you were 3. I didn't think at 20 I would be taking you again". My dad passed away 6 years later but he did get to see my 2 boys before he passed.

Just recently started following you - enjoying it ! Our wedding. Well it was quite different! May 24, 1971 my girl friend set me up with a blind date. We hit it off. He had 3 sons from his first marriage and had custody of them. I had already signed up to go on a European tour to gain college credits. (I'm in the USA). I was so homesick for him that I cried from Boston to Amsterdam! I ended up leaving the tour early and came home and we married on July 24, 1971!!! Yes, only 2 months after meeting! We had 2 witnesses. There was no music or wedding march - my mom was the church organist and didn't want to work at the wedding. I believe we had 10 people at the wedding, and afterwards went to my parents house across the street and had chicken from a local restaurant and my grandmother baked an angelfood cake! Then we packed up the kids and went home! Recipe for disaster, right? Well in July we'll have been married 51 years! (and they said it wouldn't last!)

Enjoyed this video Caroline. I got married thirty five years ago but nothing out of the ordinary happened. I do remember I got food poisoning on our honeymoon in Portugal though! (Love your bedroom wallpaper, it looks like an Orly Kiely design). It’s a shame you’re unable to wear your wedding ring anymore, you could always take it to a jewellers to get it altered.

I also have second hand engagement and wedding rings, they are still lovely
    I was married in 1993, we had a tiny wedding,just 40 people.
My wedding dress was actually a mother of the bride dress I found on sale, and fell in live with. It was an ivory brocade suit in the 1950s style. I wore a pill box hat, and felt amazing ⭐️
    Love to reminisce

As I had previously been married ( way too young and a huge mistake ! ) for my second wedding , back in the early 80s, divorcees couldn’t get married in church. So we had a registry office ceremony. Then we had a church blessing and for some odd reason, we were given a bible..! We had a beautiful day, very hot and sunny for April and we were able to eat outside . ( the chef who got married the following Saturday had thunder, rain and high winds ! ) Just as the best man was making his speech, overhead quite by coincidence , a fleet of aeroplanes flew over in a V formation. Quick as a flash, he looked at his watch and said great, they were on time !
All I have now is happy memories , as sadly I was widowed by suicide, coming up 6 years ago. But it was an amazing, joyous day..😊

I've been catching up on several of your videos. I love this one! I didn't realize England had been so restricted on where you could wed. My husband & I were married in my grandmother's home, in front of the fireplace. We had a very small wedding, as we paid & did everything ourselves & being 19 & 20, finances were tight. We will celebrate our 48th anniversary on August 2nd, 2023. My wedding grown was a long cream colored linen dress and I worn a big floppy hat instead of a veil. My dress was very boho/flower child in style, lol. My grandmother was so upset that it wasn't white silk & lace, lol. I wonder if young people today really have the fun of planning & doing their own wedding like we did. It seems everyone has to have a big wedding planner & a giant party.

Love hearing your wedding story 😊 My husband and I were married twice as well. Once for our official wedding - an outdoor wedding in 2002 and reception and the second time was a very small ceremony with immediate family on Valentine's Day 2008 in our church. Strange I know but we felt a calling (for lack of a better word) to be married in our church as time went on. 💕

Aww, such a lovely story :) We got married in 1988 (I think) in the Bournemouth Spiritualist church at the Lansdowne in Bournemouth. When we went to hear the Banns read they had this Medium passing on messages from the other side. He was really tall, extremely skinny and looked like Larry Grayson. He would stalk quickly up and down the aisle and then spin round dramatically and point at someone and shout 'YOU!" when he got a message. Scott and I spent the whole time worried he was going to point at us as it was so startling and trying not to giggle at the drama of it all :D We only had an evening reception, and as we wanted it to be more like a party we did fancy dress. As I was much skinnier then I went as a showgirl (!) and Scott was Robin Hood. I caught him trying to put his tights on over the top of his socks :D

We had no money so I wore a pale pink off the rack kind of short babydoll outfit, we were married by the local "free love" minister, and served the guests Kentucky Fried chicken....don't know if this was funny, sweet, or laughable...anyway it was about 1969!

New to your channel & enjoyed watching & listening to your wedding story very much. Our funny story happened on a mini break in NY, as I'd never been and had always wanted to go so much. He grew up there, so quite a big trip for us. We were sitting on a bench in Central Park, quite hidden away. He'd just started to ask me to marry him when out of nowhere an elderly couple turned up and promptly plonked themselves on the same bench - they had no idea, but their timing was just hysterical! We had to stumble away, killing ourselves laughing. I honestly was really happy as it was, but he surprised me a few days later by asking again and succeeding, this time at Brooklyn Park - so for us it wasn't twice wedded, but twice proposal in a week! :D xx

We started going to France in 1987 and were were very puzzled by the 'Wedding traffic' on Friday/Saturday. In fact the only Licenced venue for all weddings is the local Mairie. Then, many couples go for the optional religious service after. So, towns big enough to both have wedding cars dashing from place to place garlanded & with horns honking.. See, you had French 'chic ' ahead of your time!

I have been married for 52 years and still have my wedding dress, veil, headdress, shoes, evening and going away outfit. I was surprised to see how short the evening and going away outfits were. Although both my daughters are petite none of these fit them, I was really tiny then - think Twiggy. When you showed the picture of you both cutting the cake, I couldn't help noticing how alike Ashley and William are.

I enjoyed your wedding story, lovely that you have so many things from the day. My mum was friendly with a policeman as she worked in the club bar and got to know him. She phoned me at home one day & put him on the line as he wanted someone to go to a Christmas party with him. I was a policewoman at a different station, couldn't go to the party but he then called me a few days later - think it was Boxing Day & it had actually been snowing, he rode his motorcycle miles in the snow to visit me. We went for a walk in the snow & fell in love. He proposed within 2 weeks and we married in 1979 in December almost a year later - no snow that time!

Awww, glad you got a day to remember in the end. Must be so awful to be ill on your wedding day and nothing you can do about it, all booked so far in advance these days. A lady I watch on TH-cam, Mrs Ginger, her husband was also ill on their wedding day, had only been released from hospital the day before, I think. :

Caroline, thanks for sharing your special day. We married in 1982. The whole wedding cost around £1000. It was 12th June, so figured the weather would be good. NO! There was the most spectacular thunderstorm, and as my husband Richard said I do, there was a massive thunder clap. The vicar looked over his glasses and said, that’s not a very good omen is it!!. He was actually on the front of the old Sunday paper, News of the World, as he agreed to do a wedding blessing for a lesbian couple. Shock Horror in those days!! Still happily married after 38 years. Regards Lesley

Hi I got married in 1977, money was tight as my parents gave us money for a deposit on a house instead of having a big reception. My mum made my dress from a Vogue pattern and we held the reception in the local church hall, we did all the catering ourselves, my dad baked and iced the cake. Funny thing was my mum made trifle and forgot to take it out of the freezer! So everyone had frozen jelly etc. I was married for 25yrs then divorced. We had two children, girl and boy.
I'm now with my long term partner but won't marry again.

A bit late but I’ve just watched your wedding post. Enjoyed every minute if it, very advanced to have the two ceremonies. My wedding, my dress was a cotton lawn off the peg Victorian style. 9 guineas! My stuck up in laws said they wouldn’t come then changed their minds - I was too common for them. They were quite horrified to discover the rest of my family were just as common! 😂 I got him though, that was 1968 and still going strong.

Hi Caroline great video I got married in 2005 I had 2 bridesmaids one my school friend who was in denial about her size and we had to squeeze her into her dress and my husbands niece who had lost weight since the fitting and she had to hold the strapless dress up with the tops of her arms oh well they made me look good lol 😆

Lovely share~I always enjoy hearing what stands out for people about their wedding. We were married in a small church on a hill, with about ten people in attendance. We spent our honeymoon in a very remote cabin far, far away from civilization~very romantic spot, less the fact that we forgot the groceries for an entire weeks stay! We had our wedding cake (a large cheesecake), a bottle of champagne and various remnants left behind by previous visitors; a couple of boxed pastas, powdered milk, some oats, lots of canned vegetables, one can chili, some canned fish and a box of crackers. Somehow we did just fine and I actually managed to put together some decents meals~I dare consider how old some of that food may have been! Yet here we are, none the worse for wear=) My husband loves to tell people how I made 4 course meals out of thin air~hardly! He's a keeper, all the same=)

I got married in Vegas. I was 16. I wore a suit . Only my mom and her friend were there. I had always wanted a beautiful wedding dress. When I was a little girl, I would put a sheer curtain my mom would throw away if it was falling apart, on my head as a veil. I never got that and made sure my daughters had their wedding dresses.

Really enjoyed your wedding story Caroline! We have something in common, I married my husband twice also. We were married in 1991 and six years later were having some issues (mostly just being young and dumb and not knowing how to communicate) and we decided to get a divorce. It lasted 10 month. I guess it was more like a very expensive separation. Anyway we decided we still loved each other and the following year we got remarried. That was 18 years ago and still going strong. Honestly we are happier now than we have ever been.

Thank you for replying to me. I forgot to tell you that I liked your telling your husband Ashley I’d like quite to get married. It worked for you, Caroline. Nor women should do that. I did have a boyfriend from Iran that I dated for 4 years and told him that we should get married. I am so glad that he said No as he was not the right man and I would have been miserable if I did marry him. God always helps in circumstances like that. I am glad that you married a good man. He seems nice and you are blessed. I like your beautiful house. I enjoyed the tour.

    Hi Caroline
    This video just popped up
    How interesting it was
    You looked lovely
I thought I’d tell you why we got married it was 1972
I was paying my mum £2 per week
And Dave was giving his mum £5 per week
We could get a brand new house for £4 per week so we thought we’d get married
That was 50 years on 5th August 2022
    Who’d have thought
There’s been loads of water under the bridge as you can imagine
Hope that give you a chuckle
    Take care xx

What a lovely wedding story! Will looks so much like Ashley, seeing Ashley as a younger man. Your dress was gorgeous! Interestingly enough, Bryant & I came all the way to the UK to get married in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in Scotland in 1999. We had been exploring our "roots"/genealogy, found that his family came from Mull and my Mom's family from other parts of Scotland. We took 5 weeks and rented a car, drove all over England & Scotland (I drove the entire 2600 miles), rented Bryant a McLean tartan kilt, had a piper and were married at the registry office, part of the ceremony in Gaelic. It was our second marriage (for both of us) so we wanted to do something different and travel, as well. The officiant met with us the day before and asked if we fought much (which I thought was a very odd thing to ask!) and I said, sometimes we do, but we just blow up & (as you mentioned) get things off our chest & move on. He threw back his head and laughed & said "Aye, yer both Scots in the blood!" (we're both alpha types, I think). It was a fabulous experience - thanks for sharing yours ~

Loved your storytime! Here's mine: A guy broke my heart in Africa so I ran away to Australia in 1974. I also married my first husband twice. The first time (1975) in the Perth (Western Australia) Registry Office at lunchtime on Valentine's Day - 3 weeks after we'd met. Our guests were my brother & his wife, his brother & girlfriend and his mum, my parents were still in Africa. One year later, my parents came to visit and we re-affirmed our vows in a pretty church in Kalamunda, so Dad could walk me down the aisle. Mum was happy even though it wasn't the big white wedding she dreamed of, surrounded by family and friends in Africa. The small celebration in our newly built house with 40+ people was casual although how I managed to also cater for it, I still don't know! Unfortunately 10 years and two beautiful children later, I found him 'in the middle of' with the girlfriend I didn't know he had! 17 (intentionally single) years later the man who broke my heart in Africa found my name on the net and whisked me away to Ireland for 14 months of courtship. We came back to Oz and married at Hillarys Boat Harbour with the sun setting over the sea followed by a 'session' in the Yacht Club with a live band totally reminiscent of our original meeting when he played in a band. He actually surprised everyone by playing his guitar in a couple of old songs while 80+ of our families and friends (and I) rock and rolled! That was 2003 and it seems like 5 minutes ago.

    What a LOVELY story Caroline
    I loved your dress
I met my husband on my 17th birthday at a "disco"
    He's 6ft 5" ....I'm 5ft 3" so l constantly talk to his chest 😁
We got engaged the following year & we've been married for 39 years this October. I could write a book & make a film about the run up to.our vwedding day, but we've made it through, it was a bitterly cold October day, blowing a gale, but thankfully it didn't rain.
A lot of my wedding day was ruled by tradition & relatives that sulked otherwise ... but l went along with it & it was a lovely day & the evening reception was even better because l could finally relax & all our friends arrived - the older relatives went home & let us get on with the noisy dancing 😁

I am a newcomer to your channel, just came from one of your shopping haul videos, and saw this on the side, so had to look. I loved this video, and think that although it's not the traditional "wedding picture" one the best photo is of you and Ashley cutting your wedding cake. It's the close-up that shows not only the details of your dress and headband, Ashley's waistcoat and tie, and flowers and gorgeous cake, but every one of those components comes together to form the loveliest and perfectly composed image. And the picture looks like it was taken yesterday! Congratulations on your obviously very successul marriage, and best wishes for many more years together!
