The kind of homework Sagar Shah does for these interviews is insane, he went through all of Magnus games and remembered his positions and always had a relevant question to ask in a particular position. It's no wonder Magnus looks so comfortable with him.
carlsen is true spoken, he never becomes too diplomatic and doesnt sound fake . he calls spade a spade. champion to be remembered till the chess be played on this planet.
Such a good interview. This is how chess interviews should be conducted. Perfect balance of "taking about chess games" and "personal life" of Magnus Carlsen. Sagar Shah hats off to you. One thing that stands out is the fact that even though Sagar is a big promoter, representer and fan of Indian chess and young Indian prodigies, he didn't ask Magnus silly questions like "please praise the Indian prodigies or how satisfied are you with Indian players?" It's all about Magnus as it should be.
This is a scoop and a gem of an interview. Sagar has managed to get Magnus to open up in this interview. Great interview indeed. I am sure this interview will be watched by entire world.
Magnus's play in rapid was legit insane. No bad positions, not one game. That's some serious level he's been at for years. Congratulations Magnus 🎉 As always, thank you for such an insightful interview Sagar ❤
@@mychannel11231 VD was +3 to +7 for entire game against fedoseev.....bt in the end he blundered piece in time pressure. Against magnus he was equal for 99% of game bt then in time pressure with both knights magnus won
“Equal” according to the engine does not mean draw. This is because the engine does not take into account how narrow the path is to a draw. You can be in a position where you need to find the craziest tactic to get a perpetual check, and it will be 0.00, but in human play, it is practically lost. This is why Magnus wins so many positions which the engine declares as “equal,” since he knows how to keep narrowing the opponent’s path to a draw.
It's great to watch Magnus looking relaxed and giving an informal style interview. So much better than the awkward affairs we see where the players are put in front of a wall of cameras and journalists. This was a welcome change. Well done Chessbase India for getting it right! You have clearly built good relationships with the players over the years, and you can see how the players are only too happy to casually talk pre and post games with you. The coverage has been absolutely fantastic, it's been great getting up in the morning during the holidays in Glasgow Scotland to watch on your channel. Well done to all the team for fantastic coverage! Thanks John
Definitely one of the best Magnus interviews out there. As many have pointed out, Magnus appears very comfortable and relaxed in his interactions with CBI, owing in a large part to the affability of the team and how well prepared Sagar is for these interviews. I don't know how much time he gets to prepare during these long tournaments, with he always seems to know the correct fact and figues. In addition, he seems to instinctively know how to balance the chess position related questions and the other ones, so as not to wear out the interviewee. Also, Magnus himself is extremely candid and well-spoken. I like how he talks about the mindset and will. He truly appears to be his own competition, and demonstrates again and again how much better he is than everyone around at the game. Yet, he manages to inspire without sermonising or coming across as indifferent. I keep saying this, he is the true fictional hero proto-type.
Dubov illed himself with the draw and vidit just choked in an imp game . Vidit was really a beast in this tournament . I just hope he doesn’t let this affect his performance in candidates . In classical vidit is a different beast .
That shows the importance of memory in chess. All great chess players have a powerful memory. I think memory and fast thinking are the two most important factors in high level chess.

You forgot CM (nm), FM and IM. Let’s not pretend it’s easy to attain any of these titles. Becoming a GM is special on its own and very difficult. Streamers sometimes make it seems like being a super GM is the standard everyone should be, that’s just not the case.

Four years running…and what a tradition this has flowered into! Sagar has taken sports interviewing to an entirely new level. Such a far cry from the inane “What will you do to celebrate?” type of exchanges we have sadly become used to. This is the real stuff. In Magnus's personal sanctum, talking about the actual games, the critical moments, specific moves, specific emotions, specific connections with Magnus' (and Kaspasrov’s) past games; all annotated so crisply with a live chessboard board as they speak. Beautiful. What a pleasure to see Sagar with a deep knowledge and understanding of chess and of Magnus as he gently anticipates Magnus’ inner thoughts (and moves!) while Magnus ponders how to articulate them. Incredible to watch an interviewer so finely attuned with the athlete and the game. Little surprise that Magnus himself clearly enjoys the opportunity to have these conversations. For once, he can honestly speak his “chess” mind to a resonant listener. The chess world is indebted to Sagar. Thank you Sagar for posting articles, videos with commentary, and even the videos without commentary.
