I do wonder about the shotgun changes. Does the 3km range count from the sub, or how much the torpedoes had traveled? I mean, if a ship hovering at the 3km range mark, then a sub could launch the torpedoes parallel with the ship and use the homing to get the torpedoes to turn in. That will add distance on the torpedoes where they would had travelled around the 3km range. If it is a 3km zone around the sub, then it is a huge or better change for the shotgunning
Your forgetting the Sub ramming the closing ship. Sometimes you have to if they get close and you just may take them with you. or damage them enough for the team to kill them. You never go alone if you can help it.

Just gotta say, haven't played the game since 2017. Still avidly watch all of your content since then even if I have NO CLUE what's goin on. Keep it up and love the vids!
Once the number of sub players inevitably decreases, you can expect WG to start handing out buffs to all (mostly premium) subs to a point that will break the game again
Thanks for another very informative and well put together video. I really do appreciate the effort you go through in explaining a lot of the nitty gritty parts that usually just would get steamrolled I'm anti sub vitreol. Well done! ❤
i would suggest getting rid of the 3km shotgunning distance as it is crippling subs that get overwhelmed, ie you are sneaking along, rise up and find a target 2km ahead of you mights as well not bother and it is 1km away, well your dead and there is nothing you can do about it. I would suggest taking air dropped ASW off battleships if they are giving it to cruisers as you can have one or the other not both otherwise you end up with the current meta where submarines can't operate because ships camp, detect and instead of one or two depth charges you get hit with 4,5 or 6 and can't escape it getting ridiculous. or better yet how about giving submarines mines so they can mine an area as they pass through so they get some sort of useful weapon because the moment they use homing torps its a death sentence.
And there is still nothing for CV automatic ASW. I got some ideas about it, but I think the dev team also have them as well and every one of them got rejected.
I love these videos they're very helpful and I'm really digging the British AI Narrator that I usually hear when I go to meme channel ( If you know you know)
Only bit of advice i hard disagree with is your recommendation to kite enemy subs. Either they will do the same and it's an equal trade or they will chase you. If they chase you they have the advantage as you can be in a situation where they deal full damage to you but you may deal reduced damage to them
As always, a Great video and amazing guide. Thanks for you service, buddy. The guides help A Lot, I still need some time to adjust to those mechanics, but subs are still very fun, gonna need to practice my torp aim even further to hit those longer shots.
Yo loved the first two guides, I'm new to subs and they have been very useful. If possible, can you go into more detail on how to play subs from different nations, specifically the British branch as they don't have the dumd torps that other subs have. Thx
I came walking back into the game after a years absence and got my ass kicked hard because I had no idea about the changes xD, but like the little rat Sub player I am I have started to adapt :3, but alot of this helps, specificly about the Ping, I never noticed it dragging with me, i'll need to factor that in to my tactics!
The one change I would have implemented differently is the torpedo damage cutoff range. Right now its too steep. At 2,9km your torp does practically nothing, at 3,0km your torps now deal even more damage then before. I would have liked them to start the torpedo damage increase at 2,0km and then let them scale up to do full damage at 4,0km. That way a sub isnt helpless at proxy spotting range and surface ships would tank the full damage up until 4,0km. (cause then at 3,0km the torp damage is only 55%) And 4,0km is a range where most ships can dodge a torpedo if they are vigilant enough.
The problem with that is they will still hurt DD because DD don't have much HP, and as I said, its obvious that WG wanted DD to be invincible when it caught a sub off guard.
@Yurobeat there was this one sub that was chasing me and I was a cv but I ended up dieing because I was running away from the sub instead of coming towards it. Also the sub was out of the automatic asw plane range (6km tier 6 ship). Now ik whenever I see a sub approaching me I will make sure I distract the sub with my planes as much as I can and destroy them with ease now. Thanks for sharing the shotgunning nerf thing with us.
As a DD player I really have fun playing hide and seek with Subs. It either ends with me dcing them to death or thier team obliterates me while chasing them. Its actually fun and historically accurate
As a DD/Sub player I concur. It is more fun playing both classes and it does take more skill playing a sub now - and anything that nerfs the Gato is a good thing in my book. Ruined it for all other subs with its ultra powerful shotgun attack. I do agree the sub hydro should give a notification to those hydroed although it will be confusing to many as the sub could be anywhere when its let off. In fact for me the one who benefits the most by that notification are subs during the early stages of the game as it gives an indicator of you closing. It is more challenging and you have to think of yourself as more a Light tank passively spotting to get the big rewards but it is getting better. Oh and I do agree at those idiot BBs who don't target a sub you have highlighted with asw planes. I just don't understand players who don't have one eye on the mini map.
The change I would like to see with this is less HP for asw planes, now that they’re more spammable. Make some interesting teamwork where a sub can work with a high aa ship
The sub surveillance really shouldn't have been added to the game. They should have just added its effect to the hydroacoustic search instead, but that's a broken record statement at this point
Man, I appreciate the work you put into this, but every time I read a new set of patch notes from WG I'm 'more and more glad that I stopped playing WOT and WOWS 4 some old years ago.
These changes seem to really hurt U.K. subs. If I understand correctly, they need to successfully ping to do any damage at all, so it isn't as if they can go unnoticed and shotgun. Am I wrong?
the issue with the focus on nerfing shot gunning is in the subs defense, when it runs out of battery charge and forced up to the surface then gets run down by a DD, a rear torp salvo with just tickle the DD. so in regality this buff to damage and nerf to sub survivability along with the stupid ping direction indicator really makes sub survivability a big issue. i understand they want to balance subs but in this care, they went a little to heavy handed.
I think that the shotgunning nerfs were very much in the right direction. Before, Subs were comically strong against destroyers, which is the complete inverse of what their relationship in history. Now, Subs should RUN when destroyers come hunting for them. As a whole, shotgunning seems very counterintuitive to the gameplay design of subs. Subs are fragile, less mobile, and suffer penalties when hit, encouraging you to stay back and use your stealth and longer ranges to not get detected and hit. However, shotgunning encouraged you to get to suicidal point blank ranges and forego your stealth to banzai rush the enemy.
So question is... If you end up in a 1v1 situation against DD, what is your option? If nothing... just die... its really bad balancing because every other class can fight 1v1 subs (yes some more effectively than others but still can. Another question I have is: Is the max depth any useful? Last time I played it made no difference to medium dive
after getting spotted im dead no matter what i do im dead cus of hydro spotting when im 60m underwater i get shitton of depth charges from every ship and just die, one ping = death, playing sub became so unfun
My opinion: the problem of this NERF is now its impossible to fight DDs. And this has a specific impact especially at the end of the battle. The other point is now too many cruisers can use underwater detection AND sonar. This is a incredibly powerful vs Subs. Toghetr with shorter recharge of plane incursion to kill subs is now ver very easy.
Something really weird has happened, I have not been frustrated by subs OR CV's since I stopped playing WoWs! Every time I get an urge to have a peek, some WoWs video reminds my why I shouldn't. 😄

Great video Yuro, an interesting watch.
Thanks for another very informative and well put together video. I really do appreciate the effort you go through in explaining a lot of the nitty gritty parts that usually just would get steamrolled I'm anti sub vitreol. Well done! ❤
You made this as much fun as a funtej, and that's impressive. Keep it up!
i would suggest getting rid of the 3km shotgunning distance as it is crippling subs that get overwhelmed, ie you are sneaking along, rise up and find a target 2km ahead of you mights as well not bother and it is 1km away, well your dead and there is nothing you can do about it.
I got some ideas about it, but I think the dev team also have them as well and every one of them got rejected.
aye new guide on the dangerous metal tubing
The music was great
Excellent follow up. Not tough to sit thru at all. Hopefully we'll see more "how to" videos like this one.
Hold everything, new Yuro vid just dropped!
Yo loved the first two guides, I'm new to subs and they have been very useful. If possible, can you go into more detail on how to play subs from different nations, specifically the British branch as they don't have the dumd torps that other subs have. Thx
Still waiting on IJN sub for the tree
I found this game so beautiful that I enjoy just watching the beautiful sea and ships before I got assasinated 🙂
Thanks yuro this is a definite good teaching video for the game
Oh god Yuro in Vergil’s Plastic Chair
Spectacular guide and update. I Hope that help me tò improve my skills
Is that OST from *checks notes* Shining Force? Haven't heard that one in a while.
That feel when people are so focused they forget to drop depth charges. I took that personally because it happens to me all the time.
Next Cruiser Guide pls ✨
Informative and witty. Good vid!
Congratulations Yuro
These changes seem to really hurt U.K. subs. If I understand correctly, they need to successfully ping to do any damage at all, so it isn't as if they can go unnoticed and shotgun. Am I wrong?
the issue with the focus on nerfing shot gunning is in the subs defense, when it runs out of battery charge and forced up to the surface then gets run down by a DD, a rear torp salvo with just tickle the DD. so in regality this buff to damage and nerf to sub survivability along with the stupid ping direction indicator really makes sub survivability a big issue. i understand they want to balance subs but in this care, they went a little to heavy handed.
listened to the whole video even though i dont have to deal with submarines since i play wows legends and not the pc version lol
Even a serious video is funny AF dude 😂😂😂
Very good video Yuro, unfortunately for me WoWS remains uninstalled with subs and CV's around. But I keep on watching your vids...
However, shotgunning encouraged you to get to suicidal point blank ranges and forego your stealth to banzai rush the enemy.
irl subs did shotguns
Love it now i understand it
My only complaint here is the turning circle change. Seems a bit too good, but we'll see I guess. I'll always take more counterplay
I disagree, since the changes to the ping "crescent" sinking subs is very easy, using the ping is 9 times out of 10 suicidal for a sub
Finally i need it
Something really weird has happened, I have not been frustrated by subs OR CV's since I stopped playing WoWs!
Every time I get an urge to have a peek, some WoWs video reminds my why I shouldn't. 😄
Finally, thank you.
When are you gonna do a How to Marseille?
I really don’t understand why people hate subs so much.
Best bunny girl's butt in a Yuro's guide...
Holy honey!!!
I forgot how to activate my secondary gun, the deck cannon..... or did they take that option off?
as a dirty sub player I am sad that I can't fight submarine battles anymore
when the new cv rework is available for you to test can you redo the ryujo vid that you have or an updated cv guid
11:52 my man!
I got like 500 hours in "Uboat", but still can't figure out how submarines work in WoW 😅
Is it possible to get a How to Sicilia video?
I hope Prof. Yuro makes a guide how to playing this game on Asian server 🙏
