    Omg thank you so much!!! So sooo helpful. I am a portrait painter and as you know most people nowadays don't have the time to sit hours for a painting so I really need to up my game on the shooting side. This makes me want to subscribe to your Patreon! Also because I do my work from natural light so all these tips are gold.
    On a side note the second painting was the artwork of Vermeer and he just like Rembrandt is definitely an amazing example of using windows as a light source.

    Great tutorial! I'm a hobbyist with a passion for shooting people social dancing (salsa, bachata) indoors (my specialty/peculiarity: no flash, no posing, getting closeup with a 105 mm or 135 mm lens), so I love to watch videos like this discussing all aspects of low light, no-flash photography. @@justinlaurens I'm learning, but have come far thanks to all of these fantastic tutorials posted by artists like you. Have been doing this for fun for the past 4 years or so, as I am also a passionate dancer. I don't use Instagram much, (I post mainly in Facebook public albums) but for a quick look, my IG is "sisfoto". The challenge with what I do is that it is not posed, movement is quick, lighting is iffy, and I have to keep a reasonably high shutter speed (so, super high ISO). :)

    Awesome video, it's hard to find such a video full of knowledge. I am using canon r6 and tamron 45 1.8 sp. Do you think r6 dynamic range is fine and how about the lens, should I consider sigma art 50 1.4 or ramron will serve the purpose. Money is not an issue but yes I can't go for expensive rf lenses because it will not justify the price I will pay. Kindly advise thanks in advance.

    Awesome video, i liked it. subbed and notification bell on, sad you have so few videos
    My 1st question: How do you cope if the weather is bad and the client still ordered a shoot? Or the weather gets suddenly rly bad midway through your travel to the location? In winter the weather can be rly bad. Do you increase the iso or play with shutter speed?
    2nd question What about outside? Do you shoot outside? A video on how you manage the shoot would be awesome
    3rd Lightroom is messing the raw files of the sony so bad, introduces green and yellow wand is much darker while also making the skin colour go nuts. Ever tried capture one? The "embeded look" or whatever it's called, looks good but then it goes berserk xD

    • @justinlaurens
      @justinlaurens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I will often reschedule but if it gets bad I will head indoors and find a cool public spot (take a look at the most recent photo post on my IG, that's what I had to do for that shot but it turned out great.
      2. Take a look at my TH-cam video: Riverside, Street/Urban video its all outdoors I give a lot of tips & tricks there.
      3. I haven't tried Capture One but I don't even use Lightroom, I do everything in Photoshop & Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop - take a look at my TH-cam video: '8 Photoshop Hacks for Stunning Portraits' (I cover skin coloring there!)

    Dude, the painting with the light coming in through the window, with the woman pouring a jug was not painted by Rembrandt. That painter's name was Johannes Vermeer and the painting is called "The Milkmaid".
    I do love your portraits, absolutely beautiful.

      Yeah so I take a lot of pics indoors and things like doors can look so nice so long as the posing and composition looks good. And have videos on that you should check them out!
