  • My latest in-box review, a WW2 Stuka dive bomber!
    ...Beware of my decal-related RANT!
It also looks like there is a sink-mark on the tail, which I missed when I shot the vid, though you can just make it out on the video thanks to HD camera.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the decal mini rant! Airbrushing history is the perfect way to put it, that marking was hijacked by the German administration and ruined, it’s origins were much more humble!
Anyway, thank you for the review and thank you for not being afraid to say what needs to be said.

Great review and very helpful too - thank you. This bad boy is on my list to buy - when I have finished the current Airfix Chipmunk ... 🙂 I hope this idiocy about rewriting history through making WWII German fighter/bomber construction kits markings inaccurate ends soon ... you cannot change history or airbrush out the bits you don't like... 😞

Well....great review there, and I hope you've built that Stuka by now!!
I got one as a birthday gift back in 2016 - it was a brand new release that I'd been keeping my eye on for a while: I'd built the new-tool 1/72 version some months earlier and was most impressed by that!
I found this kit to be a real pleasure to build; it almost fell together on it's own..ha ha!! It looks magnificent, and with some after-market Swastikas, it really does look an evil machine (unless you were Hurricane or Spitfire pilot; then you just saw "sitting duck"... ha ha!!).
Yes, Airfix really outdid themselves with this one; but really most of the new-tool releases have been pretty excellent... :-)

I too was very impressed by the new Airfix 1/48 Stuka... I ended up buying 4, to wit: 2x B-1's and 2x B-2/R-2's. I have a number of AM decals sheets so may well end up with a couple more of each, yet! Good review, but you missed out on the choice between flaps (landed)_ and Flaps (in Flight) as well as the optional elevator positions. and Cockpit configurations (Canopies opened or closed.) IMHO this kit obsoletes every other Junkers 87B/R kit on the market, and having the B-1 is especially welcome as all the others are B-2s or R-02s. I hope that they may continue this with the D and G series...

Great point about the decals...Seems to have crept in over the last 20 years. Rather concerning as there are many who don't see the danger of `cancel culture`

Too many people who get offended on behalf of everyone else these days.

I agree that is ridiculous that these kits do not include on the decals the swastika simbol, i I bought the A07115 Airfix kit and i found the same situation. Awesome review.

Yes, yet theJapanese rising sun emblem is not banned...it is like a type of denial, to airbrush history in this way.

Eduard seems to be able to include them ok and they are a mainland Europe manufacturer.

They could still include a way to create the symbol, even if defracted like ICM, Tamiya, etc do...

@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab they could but would rather not as it probably offends those making the kit too much. I find it pretty sad if Ukranians and Japanese can manage it.

I wont buy kits that dont want to let you make a proper historical item. It they could do it nearer WW2 and not offend people then why not now ?

Whats the difference between the B1 and B2?

    • @Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab
      @Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab  ปีที่แล้ว +2

B2 had hydraulic flaps on cowling, modified wing flaps and dropped the screaming noise generator sirens from the wings.

It's a brilliant kit, just a pity Airfix didn't include any aircrew figures...most unusual?

Thanx for your comprehensive "in box" review, Peter.
I fully agree with you, regarding inclusion of swastikas. Really irksome if dropping £100+ for the otherwise magnificent 1/24 version. IMO, this "woke" sensibility could be easily side-stepped by splitting the swastikas on the decal sheet.
And, I do appreciate & sympathize with all & their descendants who had to endure the unforgivable evil the Nazis visited on everyone, especially Europeans.
I'm also of the opinion that, since manufacturers are trending to omitting aircrews from kits, it SHOULD then be incumbent on them to include separate PE or plastic seatbelts.
