    Link Local is FE80, and not of the hosts can ping each other because they have different VLAN names to them and are not the same. If host A can ping host C and host B can ping host D, then that would be a different story but unfortunately they don't have that answer available in the question so that is why I say none of the hosts can ping each other.

    Since the switches are on different native vlans which creates a native vlan mismatch the answer should be D, no host would be able to communicate with each other.

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good try but that's not the answer their looking for. How do native VLANs behave? Also, dont assume features the question doesn't mention are enabled..

    • @chicks2516
      @chicks2516 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To confirm my answer I also configure this on PT and got the same result. The Native vlan won’t even establish because of the native vlan mismatch so therefore no host won’t communicate outside of its vlan. If that’s wrong the please help me understand differ. Thanks

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      STP probably took the trunk down. If you turn STP off what happens?

    • @chicks2516
      @chicks2516 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spanning-tree mode is off and still can’t reach any host, in order to have this working successfully we need to correct the native vlan mismatch so the trunk
      link gets created so host on the same vlan can communicate.

    • @simofsimenz
      @simofsimenz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In gns3 turning off spanning-tree for vlan 11 and 111 on one switch stopped stp.from blocking the trunk link and allowed the pings through. I still believe the correct answer is D.

  • @BrianV114
    @BrianV114 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Q3: is C. Both hosts are in their respective native vlans. Since the vlans are native, they are not tagged. Since they are in the same subnet, they can communicate.

      Correct!! Good work. 👍

    • @stuarttaylorjersey
      @stuarttaylorjersey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Switch A and switch B have different native VLANs. This would lead to a native VLAN mismatch error, which is likely to cause problems with traffic moving across the trunk. So it’s a bit of a stupid question because the trunk is effectively mis-configured and in real life you wouldn’t do that.

    UPDATE: created a packet tracer lab with 4 hosts all in the same ip subnet, 2 hosts connected to either switch just as the diagram shows. then proceeded to make the native VLAN 50 on switch ones trunk port. I then made the opposite switches trunk ports native VLAN 100. Received a level 4 CDP log for the port I trunked saying %CDP-4-NATIVE_VLAN_MISMATCH: Native VLAN mismatch discovered on FastEthernet0/1 (100), with Switch FastEthernet0/1 (1).

    • @mortenfjeldheim6691
      @mortenfjeldheim6691 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @sbutler44 _ I believe its answer C. As Host D is in the same VLAN as the Switch B's native VLAN, and Host A is in the same VLAN as Switch A's native VLAN. That means (if I am not wrong) that the ping from Host D get it's VLAN tag (111) removed by the trunk port on Switch B and is sent untagged (?) over the trunk to Switch A which applies it's default VLAN to it (11) and sends it off to Host A. Either this or I agree 100% it should be answer D. This was a question hard on the mind haha.

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi guys, thought I better give everyone the answer. The answer to this question is C. Morten is 100% correct. The ping is sent across the trunk untagged to switchA. SwitchA will then assume the ping belongs to its native VLAN which is VLAN 11.

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @sbutler44 _ It's great you're disputing and labing this! In real life, STP will likely bring the interface down BUT the question didn't mention anything about STP. Some questions can have multiple 'correct' answers and you need to figure out what answer THEY want. This is the same in real Cisco exams as I've seen many like this before. Try the lab again but disable STP with the command 'no spanning-tree vlan *vlan ID*'

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @sbutler44 _ I agree with you. I've seen these type of questions in real Cisco exams, where there could be more than one correct answer. The trick is to read between the lines and try to figure out what answer THEY are looking for. I will pass your comments over to Boson.
