What a great way to speak to the future generation. You are the example of someone who sets low expectations for himself and settles for average. Don't EVER say "the rest of us" because you have no idea what your talking about. The difference between rich people and people who struggle is that rich people work smart, not hard. And for your information, you CAN have be rich and at the same time be a happy person by leveraging your time and business in a ways that you don't have to work as hard.
i am 100% with everything Kevin just said.... its all a mindset that determines who will be rich or poor ..... money= Freedom the pursuit of freedom a.k.a money is a more fulfilling purpose then what money really is .. currency!!! and im giving my respect to everyone who thinks and agrees in the frame of mind Kevin has ... for those people i know wealth is in your future and ill be seeing you there!!!
The Don Cherry comment made me sit up and listen. The 'TV persona' that they both rely on is the same: 'The Bully'. Notice how KO'L uses put downs frequently with his co-host, then compare this to Cherry when he keeps his co-host bottled-up. Cherry even pushes McLean's hand back to the other half of the desk if it wanders in front of his 'space'. But he's right, KO'L that is, when he says it makes viewers watch. It's compelling, but not truthful.
With modern manufacturing, it takes almost no one to make individual light bulbs, unlike pre-industrial candles, which were made slowly by hand. One factory can turn out thousands of light bulbs a day, how many candles do you think an individual could make in the same time? And robots replacing labor is a good thing. Ever wonder why industrial accidents get rarer as time passes? The less time humans spend in dangerous jobs means more leisure time, cheaper goods and safer alternative jobs.
The interviewer seems to misunderstand what Kev is saying.. He looks at it like a sport,, when you're in the ring you don't make friends, and focus on the task. As long as you play by the rules it should be ok. Outside the ring it's all about kindness and friends.
Kevin reminds me of a quote: If you are not a socialist at 20, you have no heart. If you are not a capitalist at 40, you have no brain. Love you Kevin!
"There's only enough money in the world to support the lifestyle of all the "Kevin's" out there" theres your problem. every successful person has an abundant mindset. you need to adopt that. stop thinking money is limited
I have no idea what "abundant mindset" means. But conventional math and logic tells us that money is, in fact, very limited. If you have a method by which everyone in the world can be simultaneusly financialy free and still place it under the sub-heading of capitalism (which Kevin adores); I'm all ears.
Yes, we had better stop those lightbulbs. They have really hurt the candle industry. and just think how many people we could employ to dig holes if we got rid of diesel powered excavators.
Have you ever listened to Q before? Just curious. If Jian was such a bad host I doubt his guest list would be what it is. Go and check it out. I was thinking I might try to insult you but you seem to have done the job yourself.
You are under the impression that there is a fixed set of jobs and for every job replaced by a machine or a cheap laborer overseas is a job gone forever. This is not true because those "lost" jobs are replaced by new jobs; sales, marketing, customer service, banking, product design, engineering and so on. Many jobs that exist today didn't exist 20 years ago. And fortunately many of the jobs "lost" were highly dangerous and replaced with better paying jobs with better conditions.
Just once I'd like to see Arlene look at Kevin and take a quote from The War Of Roses....."Lately Kevin when I look at you I just want to smash your face in." It'd be perfect.
Imagine what a car would cost if the number of people required to build it doubled. Imagine how long it would take to build a foundation if spoons were used instead of excavators. Inefficiency does not make things cheaper, better or create wealth as fast as modernization, which makes things affordable to every day people. And what is so bad about "restructuring society"? The same thing happened when slavery ended, when women got the vote...this is social evolution.
He has a wonderful vision for "some" people, but it's unrealistic for the majority of us, as we can not ALL be self-employed and rich. Few have to lead, and many have to follow. There's only enough money in the world to support the lifestyle of all the "Kevin's" out there, the rest of us are going to have to ignore his philosophy and do with a little less "freedom". I've spent my whole life working with rich, miserable clients - they can keep it.
Why don't you ask the workers in China who manufacture Kevin's products, how much freedom they have to "leverage (their) time" to "work smart, not hard". You tell me how Kevin or any other multi millionare/billionare can be in the "smart" position they're in without treading on the sweaty backs of hundreds (perhaps thousands) of low-income workers and I'll be sure to usher you in line for the Nobel prize.
Has this guy ever worked as a person on a line in a factory? Yet he has so much to say. He speculates on the stock market, capitalizes on other peoples sweat and acts like he knows the meaning of life. He's made it big in business and wants to tell everybody the meaning of life. He's his own man; he's a self made man. WOW I think I'm going to fucking piss my drawers. Is it OK to pay people in Bangladesh 37 dollars a month and have work in buildings that collapse like a deck of playing cards?
Talk about freedom when people around you fall ill or if you live a dull life driven by the false security of money, realising that the things which you have are simply materialistic garbage that do nothing for you as a person in the long term. I have no knowledge of Canadian/US television or popular celebrities, so this is my first encounter with Kevin O'Leary; I'm fairly sure I wouldn't agree with most of his ideologies.
trevorbuvyor- "only enough money in the world"? money/wealth is created it is not a finite supply. your attitude is that of an employee who will always seek the security of being an employee. for every entreprenuer who gets rich, 100 fail but they all take RISK. he who has no courage to take the risk, will for forever doomed to be slave to a J.O.B.
You don't need to be a billionaire to be free. Heck, you could live on a self-supporting homestead and be free, yet not have much in terms of money. It's all what you perceive it to be.
kevin o'leary isn't free and he's a fool to think he is!!! everything he was saying is so chained to the idea that he is free as long as he is rich (which i can agree that he has opened opportunity for him to not have to work as much) but the fact is that he is forever going to be a slave to the dollar and that's not freedom to me!!! i would love to hear him explain happiness without using any form of money in his description!!! sad man
Really? Since when is creating jobs off shore where people are WILLING to work for less considered a crime? Does Kevin put a gun to their heads and say be my slave workers? NO. These people are being provided jobs in which they wouldn't have jobs if Kevin hadn't given them any. Stop this same age old "slave labour" crap. A business is all about making MONEY for shareholders. Offshore = Profit. Like I said, it's called working smart. I'm not speaking just on Kevin, but on every offshore business
"pre industrial" are we really going back 300 years? Dude i thnk you missed the entire point, jobs are dissapearing because of robotics, this isnt my opinion, this is fact. The reason we have cheaper goods is because of the global market, why pay a Canadian minimum wage when you can pay an Indian 30 cents? Thats why places like Walmart can sell so cheap, and small owners cant compete, Right now we are going through the Digital Revolution, much like the industial, restructuring society=job loss
His problem is that he took risks that paid off and thinks that everyone else should have the same results.............Every multimilionaire and I even know a few billionaires that are self made think the only reason others aren't like them is because they didn't work hard enough at it..............Keep working your butt off there Kevin.........and lose the rest of your hair and dignity...........
This host is absolutely terrible. He talks WAY too much and doesn't get simple straight forward concepts. example; Kevin said he wants freedom, and in this society you gain freedom by gaining money. The host completely missed this simple point, continuously harping Kevin about how he just wants money.
Medium quality jobs are dissapearing, which is because technology replaces people. Why does this happen? Because you dont have to pay a robot. Smart buisness decision, bad for the economy
@nsvendsen Dude, it's nobody's fault that you work at a minimum wage job. Why don't you get an education, start your own business, work hard, and maybe someday you'll be as rich as Kevin and stop being a whiny hippie. Good luck! :)
i give kevin props for handling haters well
this dude is awesome; hard core businessman who is also funny and makes entrepreneurship interesting. money equals freedom in our world... PERIOD
Black people love money, big surprise
jacob98ify Bums don't have any money, no surprise
I am very happy I saw this interview.
I love you, Mr. O'Leary! :)
15:25 Jian's not motivated by money? Was this before or after his $55 million lawsuit against the CBC?
TY for this. Kevin tells it like it REALLY is! Always knew he had the 'it' factor back in 1999 when i use to watch him on ROBTV! (now BNT).

No way, hes a Cherry fan? i love him even more
Id love to see more interviews from famous business book writers and execetives of companies.
Who do you think designs and builds those robots?
He's a winner.
I could have my YT account set to automatically "like" all videos with Kevin O'Leary
i am 100% with everything Kevin just said.... its all a mindset that determines who will be rich or poor ..... money= Freedom the pursuit of freedom a.k.a money is a more fulfilling purpose then what money really is .. currency!!! and im giving my respect to everyone who thinks and agrees in the frame of mind Kevin has ... for those people i know wealth is in your future and ill be seeing you there!!!

The interviewer: I am not motivated by money. I am motivated by low-tone dousche bag radio voices...
He's probably convinced by Satan that you don't need physical money, just that cheesy low pitched wuss rumble he has going on!
;^}

More to Mr Burns than meets the eye
Kevin reminds me of a quote: If you are not a socialist at 20, you have no heart. If you are not a capitalist at 40, you have no brain.
Love you Kevin!
Society hasnt had this much of a dramatic change since the industrial revolution
"There's only enough money in the world to support the lifestyle of all the "Kevin's" out there"

Freedom=money
I agree.
I think this KOL is infortunately...Awfully right !
He would replace all of those people with robots if he could
We Canadians are winners and we`re humble about that...no need to show off or be smug about it.
U.S. protects u
Just yourself saying you're humble and have no need to be smug shows a complete lack of humility.
Have you ever listened to Q before? Just curious. If Jian was such a bad host I doubt his guest list would be what it is. Go and check it out. I was thinking I might try to insult you but you seem to have done the job yourself.
Gosh Kevin O'leary is handsome...

I'm self employed and broke. The way I see it is, I'm half way there, lol.

Capitalism is what made this conversation possible. You should both say thank you to TH-cam.
He acts like he knows the meaning of life. Does he? Power tripper?
people probably told him(O' Leary) that his ideas are garbage and will never work
Hes not a billionaire
Why don't you ask the workers in China who manufacture Kevin's products, how much freedom they have to "leverage (their) time" to "work smart, not hard".

Jian Ghomeshi is ten times more smug than Kevin.

Obsessed is the wrong word to choose. Anyways this conversation holds no value to me so I'm going to let you be.
actually playing by the rules now doesnt work anymore
trevorbuvyor- "only enough money in the world"? money/wealth is created it is not a finite supply. your attitude is that of an employee who will always seek the security of being an employee. for every entreprenuer who gets rich, 100 fail but they all take RISK. he who has no courage to take the risk, will for forever doomed to be slave to a J.O.B.

money is a burden
