"Good Evening" came out very soon after Jonghyun's death and was SHINee's first comeback without him. Jonghyun's favorite book was "The Little Prince". The cartoonish fox is the character within that book and represents many things, especially Jonghyun. The movie-like shadow of the man behind Onew is Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of The Little Prince). Milinda Wilson, another SHAWOL (SHINee World fan) has a very in-depth, well researched explanation of all of this in other reaction comments. As I don't have permission to copy/paste it here, I hope she will see your reaction and elucidate. In any case, I will also try to provide an explanation of some of the things I see here, although it won't be as good as M. Wilson's. The glaring flashes at the beginning (with Key) and all the cameras pointing at the members signify the scrutiny the remaining members were under right after the tragedy. They were not allowed to grieve properly, as all the papers and media wanted access to them to ask them about Jonghyun's death. However, SHINee just wanted to be treated normally and left alone to grieve. The video is bathed in aqua lighting in many scenes because pearl aqua is SHINee's signature color. The whole point of the video is to honor Jonghyun and show the other members' stages of grief, chiefly sadness in the beginning and when Onew looks at the anime fox (Jonghyun) longingly; anger when Key smashes the piano. Taemin (who plays piano beautifully) walking on the piano keys because he can't bring himself to play due to grief. The closeup of Onew's hands give the feeling of him being isolated from the others. Onew had been falsely accused of sexual harassment just prior to Jonghyun's death and had withdrawn from many of SHINee's activities so as not to distract or create fodder for the media for a while. He had just started to get back to regular activities with SHINee, as he had been cleared of all accusations, when all this happened. As the leader of SHINee, Onew felt a lot of responsibility and guilt (unfortunately and unnecessarily, as none of it was his fault) over it. He said that for the longest time he didn't feel he had the right to cry to express his grief. The choreo in the beginning is not supposed to be fluid but rather more disjointed to demonstrate how they are trying to resolve the struggle to adapt to having only four members together rather than five (they had all been together for 11 years at that point and are extremely close). Under the plastic - suffocating under the weight of the relentless press and feelings of heartbreak, loss. Acceptance comes in the symbolism of looking into the well and seeing Jonghyun's shadow. He is still with them in spirit, and they can catch glimpses of him in their music - especially through the many songs Jonghyun wrote for them. Finally, Key looks back into the forest where the fox dwells, as if to say goodbye, and then, with a very slight grin, as if to say everything is going to be okay, he runs to catch up with the others, as they move on to continue the dream of all five of them, carrying Jonghyun in their hearts and remaining always 5 = 5HINee. You can see at the end, with the choreo, the four of them are now dancing evenly spaced, in perfect synchronicity as before when it was all 5 of them together. Then they are all running together happily, smiling in the forest. They have passed through the worst part of their grief and are ready to move on, but always with Jonghyun's spirit (depicted as the shadow in the well again) with them. The entire album, "The Story of Light" pays homage to Jonghyun. It was released in 3 parts and each of the three title songs were about their feelings for Jonghyun: "Good Evening", "I Want You", and "Our Page". "I Want You" sounds very upbeat and cheerful, but it's camouflage for the sad lyrics underneath. "Our Page" was written by all four members, is beautiful, meaningful, and reduces you to tears, especially if you watch the MV. The collective album is a masterpiece and even includes the song, "Lock You Down" with Jonghyun's voice that was pre-recorded.
@@milindawilson9175 yes you and Saddlemama really need to out your comments in blog for somewhere we can read them that's now here. I gotta bookmark, y'feel me? 🥰
Yeah this was the first back without Jong. The fox represents Jonghyun in the MV. If you see the shadow in the well at the end, that is Jong too. SHINee 5 forever!
NCT and SHInee today. Your spoiling us Sir. I believe that Good Evening was SHInee’s first comeback after Jonghyun’s passing. And for me, it has one of their best choreo. And if you want to see Key with a cane, well, might I suggest Key’s Born to Shine (bring your thirst aid)...it’s a live performance, and his stage presence and performance is so strong.
Good evening is a special song, and I believe it is their first comeback without Jonghyun. There's a lot of nods to him in it, the fox, the 5 shadows, and the lyrics are definitely special if you look into them. It's a beautiful SHINee song and there's a lot of different theories about what the song and video mean
The thing that I love about SHINee is that they all have very strong solo careers and could absolutely have disbanded by now with everything that they went through. But instead of disbanding, they stayed together, showing us that they are and always will be 5HINee. All of their families are so close and they all support everyone in everything they do. In fact all of the SHINee family, except for Key's parents who live in Daegu, were seen at Onew's musical Midnight Sun last Thursday and it was said that because of that Onew performed the best he ever did. The families are constantly getting together and supporting one another and I absolutely love it.
To understand SHINee's "Good Evening" MV, what you need to know is that it had only been about 6 months when this MV came out since Jonghyun died -- he died Dec. 18, 2017 -- and this song and MV is all about how SHINee and Shawols have been grieving and are finally ready to begin to heal and come out of the darkness into the light. The album is called The Story of Light and it's all about finding the light out of the darkness, etc. It's about how the members are learning to continue on without Jonghyun and find happiness and light in a situation that will forever be difficult. May 25, 2018, when this MV was released, was SHINee's 10th anniversary so this was also important because it was a comeback to commemorate their 10 years as a group. The choreography for "Good Evening" is very deliberate. The reason the choreography is like that is because it depicts them going through the grieving process and it tells the story of all the emotions they went through and how, now at the end, they have made the choice to continue on as a group and keep on running, etc. The dance is all choreographed, but SHINee are just so good that they make it look like its freestyle. :D The choreography is really complex and beautiful and really fits the song well. It becomes clearer once you see it in its entirety and start to understand the story behind it all. You really should check out SHINee's dance practice video for "Good Evening" to see the full choreography. Fun fact: the choreographer for SHINee's "Good Evening" was the choreographer who was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, as well as several of Taemin's other songs, and also collaborated with several other choreographers on Taemin's "Criminal" MV. She is a famous Japanese choreographer who has known Taemin for years, so it was really special she was able to work on this project because she got to be a part of SHINee's healing process. In the MV, not only is the extra shadow that appears when they look into the tunnel/well at the end speculated to be Jonghyun's shadow, but the fox is thought to also represent him. Onew intensely stares into the eyes of the fox, almost as if he is communicating with the fox through his thoughts, and, to me, it's as if he is sharing a moment with Jonghyun. There is a fox in the story "The Little Prince" and "The Little Prince' was one of Jonghyun's favorite stories. The image of the man behind them is the author of the book "The Little Prince." Plus, a fox often represents the afterlife and the spirit of someone who has passed on reincarnated in many cultures. Also in the beginning you may notice an empty chair. An empty chair is often used to represent the spirit of someone who has passed on as well. But that's just a small portion of the hidden messages within this MV. If you really delve in deep you will discover that the whole MV can be connected to SHINee forever being 5 members and them including Jonghyun in all that they do. There are 5 trees at the end which could represent the fact that, as Onew has said, even though you may only see 4 members on stage, SHINee will forever be a group of 5. They are in a room full of cameras and their images are being projected on the TV screens, which I see as representing the fact that because SHINee is living in the public eye they can never escape from always being watched by the public. Which doesn't allow them the private space to really grieve and to express themselves privately and they are always being judged (both the members in their grieving process and what Jonghyun had to go through and what ultimately led him to feeling the way he did, etc.) This MV used a lot of green and aqua blue light to depict the cool and somber feel of the story, but it also was used because, as you know, aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color and it was used to represent Jonghyun's presence all around them and the support and solidarity they felt with their fans, Shawols. The story in the MV is showing the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) the members went through and how they have now at the end of the MV started to find their way out of it and have made the choice to continue to keep on running and continue on as a group, etc. But I could go on and on ... every part of this MV has a deeper message and meaning, you just have to open yourself up to the fact that everything in this MV has multiple meanings and purposes. You see Minho with those oranges, which is really just a giant pile of orange peels, because this part is supposed to depict how he is blindly just going through life, not even able to process what is happening around him. He is not even looking at the peels. It is like his body and mind is on autopilot. If you notice none of the members ever make eye contact with the camera the entire MV and even in their live performances of the song, you will never see them look at the camera. This was done deliberately as well because they wanted to show how in their grief they were blind to everything that was going on around them and they were closed off to the world and didn't care what was happening outside of themselves even though the world was watching their every move. The part where Key smashes the piano is only one example of of how SHINee shows how they felt for a while after Jonghyun died -- they were angry at everything, including music, and in a way they were blaming "music" and their careers for what happened and in the MV they were taking their anger out on the piano, etc. The plastic sheet and them flailing under water is supposed to represent how they felt suffocated in their grief and how grieving while in the public eye made them feel trapped at times, etc. Every scene, every image, every movement in their dance, every look, every moment they stand still or look blankly, etc. is very deliberate and is there for a reason. This comeback is part of a three part release celebrating SHINee's 10th anniversary. So they released 3 mini albums with 5 songs each in their The Story of Light trilogy and they had 3 comebacks each 2 weeks apart to showcase their lead track on each of their albums. "Good Evening" and "All Day All Night" were their comeback tracks from Episode 1, " I Want You" and "Who Waits for Love" were their comebacks from Episode 2 and Episode 3 was "Our Page" and "Tonight". Their comeback lasted 6 weeks to represent the fact that it was SHINee's 6th "full length" album. We were so spoiled this comeback; it felt so nice to see them doing what they love again. At the end of the six weeks they released a special final MV to celebrate their anniversary and all they have been through over the past 10 years with their song "Countless." "Countless" was an epilogue track that was added to their repackaged Story of Light album. FYI: Make sure if you react to "Our Page" that you also pair that reaction with the official lyric video. Every word of "Our Page" was wrote by the members and it's all about Jonghyun. If you know what the lyrics are about it will help you to understand the story being told in the MV. Before this comeback SHINee had just come off their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) world tour and the members were doing solo activities as they worked on what was going to be an epic 10th anniversary comeback. With Jonghyun's passing, that set them back a few months because they were grieving. It also took time to figure out how they were supposed to function without Jonghyun. But you also should know that, actually, SHINee never really stopped working. Two months after Jonghyun died SHINee held their SHINee World -- The Best from Now On Concert in Japan and they pretty much were working nonstop since then until Onew, DKey and Minho's enlistment. That concert had originally been planned as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and it had already been sold out. So SHINee felt obligated to honor their fans and continue the concert despite everything, which meant some extra work, because they already had been planning everything with Jonghyun. So they had to quickly go back to the drawing board and figure out how to do it with only 4 members and still honor Jonghyun's memory. In SHINee's fan meeting/concert for their 10th anniversary the members all vowed that SHINee will always be 5 and that Jonghyun will always be involved in everything they do. And during the concert when they performed the choreo for some of their most iconic songs they intentionally left Jonghyun's spot open and only filled in for him when something just wouldn't work without someone in that position. I think we are always going to have reminders of him in all that SHINee does from now on, and that is the way it should be. He was loved and will never be forgotten, and when possible, should always be involved in things that have to do with SHINee. OT5 forever and ever. I think we can feel Jonghyun's presence and influence in this album and songs because a lot of what made SHINee's sound uniquely SHINee (and this album is no exception) was because of Jonghyun. He not only shaped SHINee's sound because he was the main vocal of the group, but he also wrote and composed around 40% of SHINee's songs, so he can be felt in everything they do. It wouldn't be SHINee if we didn't hear his influence shine through in their music, that is what makes SHINee's sound so unlike any other. I think from now on we will always be searching for the hidden messages and moments that represent Jonghyun in everything SHINee does.
@@milindawilson9175 i have read it...... about the love triangle , taemin ,minho, and a girl and taemin feeling guilty of his deed (setting fire in car ,which minho and girl are riding) and asking "tell me what to do " as his regrets of loosing minho ....and other member being as a supporting actor ... :) by the way when ever i watch reaction video , i do search your comment.... coz u got details of mv and makes more clear to understand without subtitles too. thank u. and congratulations to u too for 13th anniversary.
A correction about the Good Evening MV: the man briefly shown in the mv is not the author of The Little Prince - he's actually a (orchestra) conductor. I forgot his name but it seems like his image was most probably chosen at random.
I recomend to read the lyrics of the song. *First the general stuff of the MV* : -They are basically representing the stages of grieve (some says is 5 other 7), in the MV you can see denial (how they move their heads), insolation (when they are on their own little spaces), Anger( when Key hit the piano, like blaming music and their careers for what happened), Bargaining, depression( you can see their expression is really sad in most of the MV, and their dancing is slow) And acceptance (when Key look back and they play in the rain and run in the forest smilling, the dance change as well and became more energetic). There also the sense of shock, when the "Sun light" hit Key face in the begining of the MV, is like when they recived the news. -Also you can see that they are in a glass house and/or always followed by cameras, thats mean they are always in the public eye and that does not allow them to grieve the proper way. -The green/blue (acuamarine) Color is the fandom (Shawol-SHINee World) color, is like tha fans are alway with them. *The specific stuff* : - The fox is a character from the story "the little prince" , that was jonghyun favorite. The CG animation is like that cuz there was a movie of the book were the fox looked exactly like this one. Also in many cultures the fox represent the afterlife/wisdom and also as a guide to the path of the spirit world, cuz of their intuitive sense of direction. So besically it represent jonghyun, you can see how Onew is looking in to his eyes like trying to understand what happened. Also the fox guide them to the forest when they start to run happily, this part is confirmed in the 2nd MV after this one ("I want you" MV), hope you react to it as well. -Onew (the orange hair guy), is the leader and oldest member. You can see in the MV that he seems to be always very sad and serious, and the only one to actually notice the fox (there some kind of conections/ jjong and him were very close) in some part of the MVs you can see Taemin always looking after him , like trying to not left him alone, even in the dance (*watch the live performance*). This confirmed to me that the MV represent exactly what happened. Onew had history of depression as well, and had a "scandal"(incident) before jonghyun passed away, then jjong incident happened and make things even worse for him, so he basically felt responsable for EVERYTHING that had happened . Some one already said in one of your videos that he had a really bad/hard time with all of this. He (as the others) recived therapy, but with him was a lot harder cuz he refused to cry since he believed that he have no right to, he have being basically blaming himselft for it all. As the oldest he suposed to be the lead of the funeral and take name tag , however he could not (Minho did it instead). A lot of people said that SM, his family and members should always have an eye on him, and any one that followed the promotions of their 10 anniversary that exactly what happened all members , specially Taemin took care of him the most, he was watched all the time. He needed to be re-asured that he should not blame himselft and he was a good brother/leader. The MV/dance showed it perfectly. - You could see that Minho is always the one that hold the camera, or is above them or directly looking in to them. It explained since he was the lead of the funeral procession as well it was seem to be the one being the lead in the funeral hall as well. He was basically the face media saw the most from the members when everything happened. - When you see them falling in to the water and with the plastic over them ,it means that with all the emotions+ media they felt that they were soffocating , and in the end you can see Onew halft face out of the water meaning that they are starting breath again but they are still not 100% well. - Also you can see that when Key look back in the forest he smiles is like he sensed Jonghyun presence there, basically he will always be with them. -When they look in to the tunel there are 5 trees behind them, and there is the shadow of jonghyun in the tunel/well. So they are still 5..
OMG, yes, Austin, please do a first listen to She Is and FACE/I Wanna Be albums! Those two are definitely in my favorites of all time and I hope you're going to love them as well!
Key’s I wanna be mv is great if you wanna react to his solo music. It was slept on by the kpop community in my opinion! So was Onew whole album! This was SHINee 10th anniversary/comeback that they had been preparing for us Shawols. And the first comeback without jong but on Story of light ep3, the last song is one of the greatest gifts they gave us
Thank you for another SHINee reaction- loved it. Tell me what to do is one of my favourites. Especially nice as today 25/5 is their 13 year debut anniversary 🎉
I love how you appreciate Minho's voice! Also, you could react to his single "I'm Home". He released it before he went to the military service last year.
Really thank you for being so empathic and comprensive about Jonghyun for us, the fans who still are trying to deal with the feels of lost. I see that you ask things in the most delicate way and I really appreciate it.
What I love the most about Good evening is the shadow that somewhat give me 5hinee warmth, and I always get too emotional while watching this music video
In tell me what to do to put it as short as possible. Taemin had feelings for the girl, but Minho came in and she ended up having feelings for him instead. Taemin lashed out on Minho and Minho went to go take the girl away but the car was caught on fire. They were a group of friends but in the end was ruined by those feelings.
Semi-important side note: Taemin was the one who rigged the car (indicated by his individual cutscenes where he continuously plays around with a lighter and eventually sets gasoline on fire). It’s unclear why, exactly, he did it - it could have been to kill Minho (due to jealousy) or to kill the girl (to get rid of the perceived origin of his and Minho’s conflict). Either way, as shown by his paralyzed expression before the car blows up, he clearly regrets his actions when he realizes that both Minho and the girl will fall victim to his set-up (no matter who he intended to kill, he must have wanted the other party alive). Since we see scenes of the car burning throughout the video, we can conclude that it’s not chronologically structured which means that the seemingly out-of-place scene where floating guns are pointed at him can be interpreted as a physical manifestation of his guilt following the incident. Sorry for going so in-depth but I just love this M/V (both musically and visually) and I think it’s being severely slept on so I always get excited when new people react to it 😂
Good evening was indeed their first comeback without Jonghyun and you're right, it did feel special in a way. Also, if you notice at the end of the MV (11:52) there's 4 of them and 1 shadow, they always make sure to include him cause he'll always be part of the group :) I would like to see you react to Key's solo album and also Jonghyun's Crazy!
Can’t wait to see your CD shelf with SHINee’s solo albums series: Onew’s “Voice”, Jonghyun’s “Base”, Key’s “Face”, and Taemin’s “Ace”. These are awesome especially you put them together because all these names were decided intentionally (Other members followed the first one, taemin’s “Ace”). These shows how good their relationship is, every time I think about it, I’m so touched. The only small sad point is Minho also has his own called “Choice” but it is an digital album.T-T Anyway, hope to find them all in your shelf one day.
HAPPY SHINee DAY!! Tell me what to do is honestly an underapreciated masterpiece, it's very emotional and different from their sound at the time. And Good evening it's just an iconic bop wbk. love your reactions, can't wait til you start reacting to their live stages!!
Oh you should hear EP 1, 2, 3 ofnStory of Light... Chemistry omg literally key saying "With my whole body, I will throw myself on you! and crash you" something like that. He sang it with such an attitude omg! 😍🔥
You will LOVE Key's album! I can't wait to see your reaction. Key's part on Tell Me What To Do is SO ICONIC. Is my favorite part and I love that song. I also love Minho's voice and I need his album. Good Evening was their first comeback without Jong. And it is very special. It is conected to the other videos of The Story of Light trilogy, specially I Want You. One of the explanations they gave was that Good evening represents how public and media see SHINee (that's why they are on that glass cage being filmed and everything...) and I Want You is how they see themselves as SHINee (you will get why when you watch that video). Also Good evening has references of The Little Prince, that's why there is the fox and the author of the book is reflected on SHINee. The choreography is very special too. It was made by Koharu Sugawara (choreographer of MOVE and Sayonara Hitori of Taemin). She had a special connection with him as you can watch on interviews and behind the scenes... So she told that she made the choreography of Good Evening in a way that they can face each other more than face the camera, since she felt it was a time for them to be conected with each other and focus on what they were feeling more than apealing to public and critics. That's why on performances of Good evening SHINee tried hard to not watch the cameras, having that on mind, as they work closely with Koharu. I think it is a very special and meaningful detail that is heartwarming. She was very sensitive and I think it was very nice she wanted to give that kind of message through their art. Sorry for my mistakes on English I'm not a native speaker. Thanks for your reaction!
"Tell me what to do" is the song that got me interested in Shinee. I saw their live radio performance of this song and I was hooked. Its honestly better than the official video.
There’s actually so much symbolism in the Good Evening mv about their lives under the spotlight and the lyrics reference Jonghyun and loss. It’s really special and so very Shinee because it’s about such a heavy subject, but the song feels fresh and hopeful.
Yes Sir Austin, this was their first comeback without Jjong, and this is the title track of Ep. 1 of their three-part album The Story of Light. For Ep. 2 the title track is "I want you" and for Ep. 3 "Our Page" (the lyrics were written by the members and it's in Jjong's honor). Finally there's an Epilogue for The Story of Light album with the song "Countless" which you already reacted to. I suggest for you to listen to Onew's 1st Mini album "Blue" and Jonghyun's Story Op. 1, the vocals and lyrics for these 2 albums are just beautiful 😎😍👌 Thank you as always for your reaction, have a great week 💜
For solo stuff from Jonghyun, definitely his POET|ARTIST album. Rewind??? HELL yeah. For Taemin, he has to many?!!!!!!! But my fave is his Press It album. Anything from key is a bop. I Wanna Be is literally a bop. Onew makes me Cry. With his album Blue. How dare he. And MINHO????? A BALLAD????
I agree with you on Key's voice. He has such a unique sound that I've never heard before and like you mentioned for you, it kind of pierces through me too. I was in love with him almost from the beginning of my SHINee journey. I also love his personality; he's spicy and sassy.
The hole "The Story Of Light" album it's about jonghyun. Every song has a little of him in it, and "You and I" was wrote by Key, talking about how he (and they) miss Jjong. Totally recommend watch it, because it's such a BEAUTIFUL song. The title songs may be very happy or catchy but the lyrics or choreo, even something on the MV (like the fox) will always have something really touching abou SHINee being five, or about Jjong itself, they kinda do that a lot, like in the new song Area or in Atlantis where they let a spot to Jonghyun on the choreografy. If you watch this MV with jjong in mind, you can find so many references to it. Like the ring of green light, which can represent the halos of an angel (jonghyun), even the Fox, or how they are stuck in a place full of cameras filming them twenty-four hours a day, they are feeling trapped in it. The dance, where they get involved to represent a single body, or when they make a shadow to him... If you watch carefully, you will always see that SHINee wants to make sure that Shawols and other fans know that SHINee is always going to be five.
Happy SHINee day! I love to go down memory lane with you through your videos. One of my fave albums of theirs is 1of1. That whole album is *chef's kiss* I think it would be the perfect one to react to
"Colorful" "Your Number" "Sing Your Song" “Our Page" (with eng sub.) "Get The Treasure" and "Dxdxdx" remained from SHINee MVs. Please react to these. I can not wait to do it. Please don’t forget 🙏
Oh there was this fanmeet during tell me what to do. and Key wore this button up shirt in like black gold and it was button so low chest exposed and he kept fixing his damn shirt and it was slightly slit in the sides and to complete the outfit a freaking choker! Oh he looked 🔥
Happy SHINee Day~! Good Evening still gives me goosebumps. It's an amazing song, beautiful MV, and it means a lot to us and SHINee themselves. The entire TSOL era was just, so incredibly important, and emotional. Yes, like everyone's saying, you should react to Our Page, but, you NEED to read the lyrics. It's nessecary. Also, I need to warn you, that it's a lot emotionally, so, if you're not prepared for that, maybe wait a bit to react to it
Good evening is a sample of a old rnb song I think it’s called give it a try and I knew it sounded familiar back in 2018 when It came out but I could put my finger on it and then I think in 2019 I was driving home from work really late so the quiet storm was on which has like chill rnb music from like the 80s 90s and I heard the song and I was like this is what I’ve been remembering.
I agree for Minho, I really want a solo album for me but... we will have to wait for it. I really love his singing voice, it's very soothing. Btw, as you were talking about FACE (this album was amazing) Key is preparing is future solo album! This is so exciting! VOICE is also a great mini album but I felt like barely nobody hyped it up. She is album is perfect for me too, I am sure you will enjoy it!
Thank you for the reaction! TMWTD & Good evening are both very precious to me. I love that both songs have such original and intricate choreographies. You should definitely check out the stage version in your free time :) Yes unfortunately most of SHINee's MV doesn't have subtitles. The next MV on your list should be I want you, Our page & Countless I highly recommend watching Our page with subtitles (there is an ENGSUB version of the MV on youtube)
Oh I know that I'm going to cry (? Good evening is so special for me as shawol. I feel that the boys was telling us "this broke our hearts, we know you also are broken inside, but he will be always in our memories and hearts. SHINee will be forever 5. We are going to be better. Support us" The song is so catchy and beautiful. Sad but in someway also colorfull. Is so bittersweet, that is how I can describe it. And Tell me what to do... Is a bop. I like that concept and era. Jonghyun killed the high notes and Minho rap, 1000points, also I love how Onew vocals sounds so powerfull and deep. It was a few years since I didn't hear this song, still a lot of SHINee songs are difficult to hear but I'm feeling brave while watching all their videos again with you. Thanks for react to this, heals my heart. I can't wait for your Jonghyun' soloist career journey. Kisses from Argentina!
Hi dear! First of all, i love how you do your videos, you are a lot of kind and gentle in your opinions and reactions. I have entered in the kpop world this year and my favorite group is Shinee! At first time, i thought BTS would take all my attention ( and i like BTS too) but Shinee have something special for me. Maybe because i'm in their age range ( i'm 31 U_U ) or because they seems more " natural" than other groups but i really love them. I have loved until now, all your videos about them, specially the video about every single members. ( My favorite is Onew
I’m new to Kpop but I think jonghyun has the most unique voices in Kpop. I’m glad his voice can be appreciated in older videos. I’m disappointed that Min Ho got so little visual time!
Happy SHINee Day!!! Happy 13 years to our boys.😊 Good Evening is their first comeback after Jonghyun. From how it was interpreted, this video shows how they dealt with what happened. Initially enclosed in a space feeling confined like they isolated themselves as they can't grieve properly as they are always being watched (as represented by tv monitors and camera). They showed the phases of grieving such as denial (shaking heads in the choreo) and anger (key smashing piano). Eventually they were able to free themselves running to the forest (like they are ready to go out again) with that subtle smile from Key in the forest probably sensing Jjong's presence. Their choreo also picked up, from being very subtle and slow at the start.. to being very energetic towards the end. One of the last scenes is also showing face above water like finally coming back up after drowning. And the fox represented Jjong. Key's voice is really good, I love him especially on the ballads and I'm excited for you to listen to his album. Not sure if you're also reacting to their live stage of From Now On, it's emotoinal but their voices are so good there. Also when you get to Our Page, hope you can check out the lyrics written by the members for Jonghyun along w your reaction.
Minho has a song called "I'm Home" released before he enlisted. I doubt you can react to this but he also had a solo song during one of SHINee's Japanese tours called "Kiseki"
For all the title track in the Story of Light Trilogy, I recommend watching an MV with lyrics!!! SMH @ U SM So everyone has their own interpretations and thoughts on the MV and lyrics bc all of it is very metaphorical, but for me the lyrics lean toward them wanting to reach someone before a darkness did. SHINee has always been very purposeful in what they do in every comeback, and that is completely amplified in The Story of Light comebacks. They were very honest, open, and reflectful in music that directly addressed Jonghyun. And they continue his presence in his MVs to this day! 👏🏼 SHINee is five. Always. This whole era was so comforting and special for shawols 💎💙
Thank you for this reaction! TMWTD is my fave title track. Glad you liked it 😊 Yes, Good Evening was their first release without Jonghyun. Yey, can't wait to see you react to their Solos too! I absolutely love all of their solo albums! It reflects themselves so much!
I hope you'll react to the live version of ring ding dong and lucifer! I would recommend the SWC5 one. Ring ding dong isn't really my taste either, but I always enjoy it when they sing it live.
Yoo I really loooove Tell Me What To Do I do the cover of it and put on soundcloud lmao and that Key's rap, is hardest part, I remember keep repeating on it when recording, feels like my tongue and lips become one lmao 😭😂 Also Good Evening is one of my fav song from them 👌
happy SHINee day, sir! tell me what to do is my favorite tittle track, do even before I start watching - like, comment and I'm already subscribed, notifs are on! edit: story behind twtd taemin is jealous bc minho got girl he likes and puts the car on fire 😏 ty for saying that you wished minho had more parts in the song, it's exactly how I feel too. good evening is their comeback, and first song, your right.
Yup this is their 1st comeback after loss of Jonghyun. Other than Good evening, another song "Our Page" also very meaningful as this is dedicated to Jonghyun and SHINee addresses Jonghyun's loss in the most poetic, visually moving way they could in this song. I know it's already few years back but one performance that I always end up in tears is "From Now On" in a concert only few months after Jonghyun's left us all. I cannot put in words on how much respect I have for the boys as they were able to sing this song, like that, for Jonghyun, at that time, plus the lyrics really hit me differently.. I'm watching over all Shinee's vid again as this is Shinee's month and end of this month our forever maknae; Taemin will be enlisted for the military service. Our Page MV (this one without Eng sub) : th-cam.com/video/Psl-x_nw7TI/w-d-xo.html From Now On : th-cam.com/video/kVBVxhGkam8/w-d-xo.html
To help explain what is happening in SHINee's "Tell Me What to Do" MV, the members are all playing a group of friends which also includes this girl. How I see the story is that they all have been friends with this girl for a very long time and Taemin has always been in love with her, but unfortunately, what you see is that she is in love with Minho and they are dating. However, Taemin is super jealous and his jealousy has gotten to the point where he can no longer hide his anger and disappointment -- that's why you see him acting kind of crazy and really angry. That's why you see him getting drunk and silently watching Minho and the girl with that seething, jealous look on his face. It is also why you see him crazily pick up that gun and wave it around like he is drunkenly joking with everyone and making bad choices. It's supposed to be about a group of teenagers/young 20-something guys hanging out together and partying in an abandoned warehouse or construction site, etc. You see them having fun riding around in the car together, but if you notice Taemin is sitting there jealously watching Minho and the girl and wishing it was him who she was in love with. I interpret the floating guns as a metaphor, where Taemin is surrendering to everything and he is struggling to figure out how to cope with all his feelings, etc. You see Minho and Taemin get in a fight and Minho is essentially saying, "hey man it's not my fault she is in love with me and not you ... you need to back off and get over yourself ... snap out of it ... what is wrong with you?", etc. So the song is called "Tell Me What To Do" because the rest of the members are pretty much saying "Tell Me What to do ... What should I do to fix this rift in our friendship and how do we fix it and go back to the way we used to be?", etc. It's a coming of age story about friendship and the things that can happen in someone's life that can cause a rift between friends. In the end you see Taemin drop the lighter and some say the lighter is what catches the car on fire and it symbolizes the end to their youthful innocence, but you also see Minho get in the car and it blows up. Some say Taemin is so jealous that he blows up the car and kills Minho. It's definitely a darker concept, but you shouldn't feel too sad, because at this point nothing had happened with SHINee yet and it doesn't really have anything to do with this MV. It's only after the fact, that we now can give the story a deeper meaning. The only saving grace to this story is that we know that SHINee is too much of a close knit group to ever let something like this happen to them for real and, that in terms of SHINee, this story is so far from reality that this would never happen with their friendship. Once again this was a departure from anything we have ever seen from SHINee before and it's unlike anything they have every done as a concept for an MV. But it was exactly sHINee-like in every way. You should really watch a video of SHINee performing this song live on Jonghyun's radio program called "Blue Night". The radio show was hosted by Jonghyun. He hosted the daily radio program for 3 years. During "Tell Me What to Do" promotions the other SHINee members were guests on the show and Jonghyun had to do double duty that night as both host and guest. You should really watch this clip th-cam.com/video/ZuWJIZLPylE/w-d-xo.html. This was my favorite performance of "Tell Me What to Do," and not only are their vocals magnificent, but it also shows you a little glimpse into their goofy fun personalities as well. You should also check out a live performance of "Tell Me What to Do." Because, even though there is no dancing in the MV, this was one of their lead promotional tracks for this repackaged album, so they performed it on music programs and in concert. This choreography is so uniquely SHINee. I think you will fall even more in love with the song, once you see the full performance. :D
You will probably react to OUR PAGE on your next Shinee reaction, if you do Sir, kindly react to the lyrics too. The members personally write the lyrics and it is a beautiful and special song. 💎
As always, thank you for your thoughtful and insightful reactions, Austin. Shawols are in a bit of a panic over is Taemin's imminent hiatus. Videos like this really help as SHINee makes the transition. I saw something recently about Tell Me What to Do. Jonghyun said he himself really got physical in the mv, simulating a fight, and tore his jacket or Minho's but they cut that part out. He said he was hoping to show his manly side. The scene with all the guns pointing like that made me think about how people can feel like the world is against them and they get to a point where they just don't care and can become despondent and self-destructive. (I was thinking maybe SM wanted to show the members' acting chops in this video.) I also hope that Minho releasesan album, if he wants to, because he has a beautiful voice. But hopefully he will be too busy involved as a regular cast member in a drama or film project, especially now that he will have some time to devote to his acting. I was happy to hear that the SHINee families got together to support Onew at the Midnight Sun musical. And Key is visiting Taemin's home on the I Live Alone show this week.will be fun for us to see them hanging out and to see Kkoongie. (That's one cute kitty!) See you soon!
Thanks for writing this out! I've listened to "Good evening" before but I'm pretty new to the fandom so this was all new information
Aww thanks for the shout out. We Shawols need to stick together. :D
You're amazing fellow Shawol. Respect.

@@alexanderallin1743 welcome to SHINee World! 🤗
Yeah this was the first back without Jong. The fox represents Jonghyun in the MV. If you see the shadow in the well at the end, that is Jong too. SHINee 5 forever!
And the Fox prince was Jonghyun favorite story so far I know and idk if "Good evening" was already planned like THAT but yes definitely HIS homage ♡
FACE and She is albums are soooo good, you are gonna love them so much
YES YES!!
Funfact: the actress in Tell me What To Do is the princess in 100 days my prince :)
Yasss! Tell Me What to Do is so underrated! I love that song so much.
Which doesn't allow them the private space to really grieve and to express themselves privately and they are always being judged (both the members in their grieving process and what Jonghyun had to go through and what ultimately led him to feeling the way he did, etc.)
This MV used a lot of green and aqua blue light to depict the cool and somber feel of the story, but it also was used because, as you know, aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color and it was used to represent Jonghyun's presence all around them and the support and solidarity they felt with their fans, Shawols.
I think from now on we will always be searching for the hidden messages and moments that represent Jonghyun in everything SHINee does.

by the way when ever i watch reaction video , i do search your comment.... coz u got details of mv and makes more clear to understand without subtitles too.
thank u. and congratulations to u too for 13th anniversary.
A correction about the Good Evening MV: the man briefly shown in the mv is not the author of The Little Prince - he's actually a (orchestra) conductor. I forgot his name but it seems like his image was most probably chosen at random.
I recomend to read the lyrics of the song.
*First the general stuff of the MV* :
-They are basically representing the stages of grieve (some says is 5 other 7), in the MV you can see denial (how they move their heads), insolation (when they are on their own little spaces), Anger( when Key hit the piano, like blaming music and their careers for what happened), Bargaining, depression( you can see their expression is really sad in most of the MV, and their dancing is slow) And acceptance (when Key look back and they play in the rain and run in the forest smilling, the dance change as well and became more energetic).
*The specific stuff* :
- The fox is a character from the story "the little prince" , that was jonghyun favorite.
You should check out "Our page" it's such a beautiful mv and song they wrote for Jonghyun.
Also Key's solo stuff
React to his solo stuff Key is amazing! Same sentiment I have with Key.
Sorry for going so in-depth but I just love this M/V (both musically and visually) and I think it’s being severely slept on so I always get excited when new people react to it 😂
U will love them live
YAAASSS SHINee
Tell me what to doooo!! 😭💙💙
Yes! I was waiting for those. You will love the sixth album: the story of light. My favorite is the third, though: the misconceptions of us.
The only small sad point is Minho also has his own called “Choice” but it is an digital album.T-T
Anyway, hope to find them all in your shelf one day.
Thank you for posting today Sir Austin! Happy SHINee Day! Good evening's lyrics are special. The whole MV is so beautiful.
Thanks for your reaction!
love more shinee
1, the vocals and lyrics for these 2 albums are just beautiful 😎😍👌
Thank you as always for your reaction, have a great week 💜
I love how much you appreciate SHINee cause same. 😭 i mean, i had trouble with the older songs but they all grew on me. I love SHINee so much. ❤
I also love his personality; he's spicy and sassy.
yayyyy ty! can’t wait for some live perf and more solo stuff 💗 you’ll love key’s i already know
Both of these are 2 of my fav from them and both underrated!
That whole album is *chef's kiss* I think it would be the perfect one to react to
Good evening is my favorite song Thank you for always react SHINee . All of them are perfect combination.
Living for your SHINee reactions, each day checking your channel if there is any SHINee or not, please make my SHAWOL heart happier ♥️♥️
2 of my favourites! Both are incredible but Countless holds a special place in my heart 😭❤
tell me what to do is suuuuuuuuch a amazing fit for summer music, it makes my life. 👌👌👌👌
"Colorful" "Your Number" "Sing Your Song" “Our Page" (with eng sub.) "Get The Treasure" and "Dxdxdx" remained from SHINee MVs. Please react to these. I can not wait to do it. Please don’t forget 🙏
Good Evening had to grow on me but right now its in the Top3 of my favourite SHINee songs
Jonghyun shadow is there at the end of MV, yes this is the 1st video wihout him
Oh there was this fanmeet during tell me what to do. and Key wore this button up shirt in like black gold and it was button so low chest exposed and he kept fixing his damn shirt and it was slightly slit in the sides and to complete the outfit a freaking choker!
Also, I need to warn you, that it's a lot emotionally, so, if you're not prepared for that, maybe wait a bit to react to it
Good evening is a sample of a old rnb song I think it’s called give it a try and I knew it sounded familiar back in 2018 when It came out but I could put my finger on it and then I think in 2019 I was driving home from work really late so the quiet storm was on which has like chill rnb music from like the 80s 90s and I heard the song and I was like this is what I’ve been remembering.
thank you so much. you are great i'm enjoying every moment of your reactions. so respectful and truthful =*
you are sweetheart
I agree for Minho, I really want a solo album for me but... we will have to wait for it. I really love his singing voice, it's very soothing.
Btw, as you were talking about FACE (this album was amazing) Key is preparing is future solo album! This is so exciting!
VOICE is also a great mini album but I felt like barely nobody hyped it up.
She is album is perfect for me too, I am sure you will enjoy it!
I hope you react to "good evening" live. The choreo is very telling
Thank you for the reaction!
TMWTD & Good evening are both very precious to me.
I love that both songs have such original and intricate choreographies.
You should definitely check out the stage version in your free time :)
Yes unfortunately most of SHINee's MV doesn't have subtitles.
The next MV on your list should be I want you, Our page & Countless
I highly recommend watching Our page with subtitles (there is an ENGSUB version of the MV on youtube)
I looooove both songs! And Keys part in 'tell me what to do' is also my favorite :D
Also, yes, 'good evening' was the first comeback without Jonghyun
Happy 13 years to our boys.😊
Good Evening is their first comeback after Jonghyun.
Good evening performance is everything
Minho has a song called "I'm Home" released before he enlisted. I doubt you can react to this but he also had a solo song during one of SHINee's Japanese tours called "Kiseki"
Yass!! im always waiting your reactions especially about SHINee. Im still waiting your reactions for their live stages 😍
"Good evening" is really special 💖 can't wait for you to get to their live stages cause that's gonna make you a hardcore shawol 💫

Happy SHINee day🥳💖🌸
#13yearswithSHINee 💎💎💎💎💎
FINALLLLLY. My 2 favorite songs 😭
When you react to Our Page, please watch a version with the lyrics, understanding them really helps conveying the emotion of the song¡
Everytime I listen to Tell Me What To Do, I just...want to cry for some reason lol
For all the title track in the Story of Light Trilogy, I recommend watching an MV with lyrics!!! SMH @ U SM
So everyone has their own interpretations and thoughts on the MV and lyrics bc all of it is very metaphorical, but for me the lyrics lean toward them wanting to reach someone before a darkness did.
Glad you liked it 😊
Yes, Good Evening was their first release without Jonghyun.
Yey, can't wait to see you react to their Solos too! I absolutely love all of their solo albums! It reflects themselves so much!
Woaah VOCALS
I’m glad you’ve become a ShaWol amidst the several 3rd and 4th gen boy groups. 😊😍 Hope you’d watch their concerts too in chronological order.
Love the song, but the shadow on the well makes me tear up every time. Agree - this MV just feels special.
SHINee!!! I love them so much 😭❤
I waited for this especially to Tell Me What To Do because it’s one my go-to-songs 😭😭😭
Sir Austin should watch the choreography of Good Evening in roller coaster version
hi ! loved this reaction
I hope you'll react to the live version of ring ding dong and lucifer! I would recommend the SWC5 one. Ring ding dong isn't really my taste either, but I always enjoy it when they sing it live.
Yeah! Never been this early!
Thank you sir Austin for reacting to SHINee heheheh I hope u react to more SHINee content but take ur time cuz no pressure :)))
you should watch tell me what to do live in a radio show: Blue night.
amazing
Yoo I really loooove Tell Me What To Do I do the cover of it and put on soundcloud lmao and that Key's rap, is hardest part, I remember keep repeating on it when recording, feels like my tongue and lips become one lmao 😭😂
Also Good Evening is one of my fav song from them 👌
In the hole (?) there’s four of them, but there’s actually five shadows 🥲 because SHINee are FIVE
happy SHINee day, sir!
tell me what to do is my favorite tittle track, do even before I start watching - like, comment and I'm already subscribed, notifs are on!
edit:
story behind twtd taemin is jealous bc minho got girl he likes and puts the car on fire 😏
ty for saying that you wished minho had more parts in the song, it's exactly how I feel too.
good evening is their comeback, and first song, your right.
I see SHINee, I click. ☺️
Our Page MV (this one without Eng sub) : th-cam.com/video/Psl-x_nw7TI/w-d-xo.html
From Now On : th-cam.com/video/kVBVxhGkam8/w-d-xo.html
O shit i miss them very muchhhhh😭
I also wish Minho to have a full or mini album to complete their solo album series...
For "tell me what to do" the base of chorus is Minho's voice saying "tell me what to do" so many times 😁😁😁 you should react to Minho "I'm Home"
You should also react to their song "Our Page"!!
Good evening is beautiful :)
I highly. HIGHLY. Recommend their Lucifer album repackage, as well as the 1of1 album repackage. Please.
