    I bought a Chinese scooter new for $700 about 18 years ago. It's got 6700 miles on it and all I've had to replace was a speedometer cable, a seat and a air filter box. The forks started leaking a few years ago but I'm not mad.

    Owner of an Icebear here! (PMZ50-17 model). They are SUPER RELIABLE! It must come down to a defective part or two, or the overall design of the model in this video. I’ve clocked over 10,000 km on mine, twice what this guy has on his (4,913.5 km). Icebear scooters read in km, not miles. You’ll have to do the translation on your own when owning one of these. I clock about 24km a day on average (~62 miles a week). These are plenty reliable, have had it for over a year and a half now, only had to replace a spark plug (likely a defective one) and a carburetor once (likely from user error with some carburetor cleaner…) Back tire from a flat, but that’s not a part defect.

    Sounds to me like just regular maintenance issues. With every scooter you have to do regular maintenance and always do regular checks on everything. It's not just buy a scooter and ride. You have to take care of them for them to continue to run good. That goes with any scooter you decide to buy named brand or not. Regular checks and maintenance is the key.

    • @Scooterswapshop
      @Scooterswapshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No they’re just built cheap. Cheap parts cheap craftsmanship. That’s why there’s Hondas running around from the 80’s on all oem parts that have been sitting in barns for 30 years yet leave a china bike outside for 2 years and it’s crumbling.

      @@Scooterswapshop update, 7 months later, both my scooters are kicking ass man. I live in kona Hawaii, my girl and I ride em all the time,with no issues so far. To be fair,I'm a mechanic type, so I initially corrected the air flow suppressor issue to get em perfect after I got em new, I set the valve lash on both and done the preventative maintenance. I also see my same model bike all over kona all the time. Unless you've owned one ,2020 icebear 49cc, then I get you likely wouldn't know. I'm just speaking from experience with em, and I only paid $1200 each in Hawaii, which is a killer deal for fun little toys to do farmers market runs on.

    I noticed from watching video's that all the different makes of Chinese scooters and dual sport motorcycles seem to reuse many of the same parts like the engine. The engine used in Chinese scooters and motorcycles are clones or copies of past Japanese engine's. I doubt the Chinese are using the same quality metals used by the Japanese, but it probably doesn't matter since most owners won't put enough miles on them to see engine failure. I think owners need to have some mechanic skills to take care of the vehicle and replace parts that do break. There seems to be plenty of replacement parts available online even if you don't have a dealership near you. Many of problems mentioned in this video can be easily fixed, and I think some of the problems were caused by the owner.

    • @Scooterswapshop
      @Scooterswapshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The facts are they’re built with price in mind not quality. These parts fail over and over. If you leave a Chinese bike in a shed for 5 years all the rubber is shot, panels are brittle etc. it’s toast. Yet you can take a good brand and let it sit for 30 years and it’s fine. The motor itself isn’t terrible. It’s every piece of plastic and electronics surrounding it. Also the dealers stroke you on parts. For instance we had to buy a exhaust for an ice bear. Our dealer cost was $140....the whole scooter can be bought for $800.

      I bought a cheap Chinese scooter, a Honda Grom clone, I spent 1300 bucks on it and the speedo stopped working with 13 miles on it and constantly registers at 2mph at all speeds. The turn signals stopped working the third time I took it out, the engine blew at what I'm assuming was about 150 miles in a residential area only going 25-30mph. The Piston, the arm, and the cam was blown to bits. Took it to the shop to get my year warranty bumper to bumper and they voided my warranty saying I tampered with the bike. ( All I did was check the oil filter and cleaned the shavings out that shouldn't have been there in the first place) I spent 400 dollars to replace the top end and when the parts came, it didn't even feel like there was motor parts in the box , the cheapest, weakest, thinnest, crappiest, lightweight aluminum possible. It all melted and I grenaded the engine once again. I've followed my owners manual 100% and the bike and the dealer I went to are a lost cause. I think they sabotaged my bike to get more money out of me. Not a happy person right now.

    I know this video is old, but come on if you buy something like a bike or skates you really should know or learn how to take care of the item, yes it’s a copy of a ruck but he knows nothing on how to take care of it lol,I have two Chinese scooters an 2011 150cc dong fang sunny with 6,000 miles on it and 2018 150cc ice bear Hawkeye with about 2,000 miles on it,and I do all the maintenance on them, and they still look great as the day I brought them home, I just got finished up grading the ice bear with an Taida 180cc big bore kit for more responsive speed when I need it, always do your research before you purchase cars bikes or anything in life for the matter of safety and no how to replace parts and figure out how to keep them in great condition these bikes are great bikes in the right hands.

    • @Scooterswapshop
      @Scooterswapshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He puts a lot of miles on this bike and now has switched over to a gy6 ruckus. It’s been far more reliable. The Chinese stuff is bottom of the barrel quality. There’s just no way around it. Get you what you pay for. Had this been a Honda or Yamaha it would have been in the shop a fraction of the percentage. If you understand that it’s lo quality that’s fine but don’t expect them to be reliable. We stopped servicing them here at the shop due to too many people having issues non stop and being blamed for it .

      Kymco, as well as TGB, are two of the world's top scooter companies for durable and reliable scooters. They are both also Taiwanese companies. They both make such excellent motors and bikes, that other companies, such as Vespa, Yamaha, and Suzuki, buy from them and put their own expensive names on the products...and then jack up the price to consumers. For good, wholesale prices, you can go straight to Kymco or TGB for a good, reliable, durable bike.

    Like most Chinese machines quality control can be quite spotty. For sure some of the parts are cheap and will break, my rule of thumb, replace with Taiwanese parts (higher quality) as I go along. The Maddog wire harness (like most Chinese scooter harnesses) uses low quality under gauge wire, once the wiring is addressed, the gy6 engine and this frame are very reliable and very inexpensive and easy to work on. I’m a life long Honda fan and think these bikes are, once known issues addressed, excellent vehicles. th-cam.com/video/IWD7SjyIIRk/w-d-xo.html

But we’re not talking about kymco and SYm etc. we’re talking about the cheap throw away Chinese bikes such as icebear tao tao etc. we see Honda’s come in that have been under tarps since the mid 80’s, and just need carb cleans fresh fuel and batteries.
