Hi Gary, Thank you so much for all the info! I found your channel in January of 2015 ( searching container gardening). I wanted to do it for my handicapped Dad. That was the first year I grew from seeds and in containers that I gave to my Dad. He was ecstatic to be able to garden again from his wheelchair. He passed away later that year but he had that one last garden that made him so happy! After nearly 30 years of my own gardens I didn't think I could garden anymore without my garden buddy. I took one year off and continually watched your channel and the following year started all over again and I'm still growing strong. I've learned a lot from watching your channel and I thank you so much for that and for that last garden that my dad had!
Thanks so much for sharing this. I am glad he got to share the excitement with you. Reflect in the garden and remember. I really appreciate the comment. Great video. Out on the west coast, liquid copper was all I needed. Not so much in the southeast, with the humidity, I need something WAY MORE potent. Was forced to go synthetic as organic methods didn’t work for me, no matter how many methods/ products I tried. I really tried to stay organic, but I couldn’t any longer unfortunately.
I agree. Try organic, Try again and if it doesnt work non organic in a planned manner is fine, Please Visit The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Neem Oil: bit.ly/43IJl9C Peppermint Oil: bit.ly/43IJl9C Rosemary Oil: bit.ly/43IJl9C

Unfortunately This will be the second year in a row now that I have sadly committed the first mistake that you talked about. Spraying too late. I lost a lot of vegetable plants last year and had a pretty hefty battle with fungus & fungal infections in my garden. I’m in plant city, Florida in Zone9b & it starts getting hot, humid & muggy here pretty early- usually in June but this year it started in May. Just 3 days ago I started to spot several different mushrooms popping up in one of largest my raised beds. I had to completely take out my cherry tomatoes almost 2 weeks ago because they had early blight that was spreading rapidly and it all started due to them being too close together and the soil and base of the plants weren’t getting much air flow and barely any sun-it was the perfect environment for blight to take over. I’m getting ready to put various pumpkin varieties, cucumbers, melons & other pepper varieties in the ground but I’m going to use your advice and also make sure I aerate the soil and also aerate the soil that my other well established vegetables are currently growing in. The hot, muggy and rapid fungus producing season has just barely begun here in Florida and I have a long way to go. I guess next year I really need to make sure that I focus more on growing my vegetables from October-April and from May-September I focus more on my flowering plants and banana palms. Because it’s just impossible to keep up with the fungus & fungal infections during late spring & summer here in Florida. But I’ve got a lot growing right now so I’m definitely going to try!! 🍌🫑🌶🥒🥔🍈🍉🍅🍍🫙☀️🌧💦🍄🌱🌿🪴🌷🌹🌺🌸🌻
I had dampening off happening with my watermelon and cucumber plants so I made a neem oil spray and soaked the spray all over the plant and into the root. It worked great and my plants survived even if it looked like it was dying for an entire week but they all bounced back
Thanks Gary for so many informative advices. What can I do for transplanting roses from branches getting black, before it takes roots. I would really appreciate your expetise.
I am very new to gardening..this is only my second attempt..though I am only growing hardy flowers right now and if I can manage that I will slowly move to vegetables..I totally missed step 1 preventative care and living in VA..it rained for what seemed 2 weeks and fungus has attacked my petunias in containers..I am trying neem oil and Daconil and hoping for the best.
You the man,Gary.👍 Thanks for the tip on blight.I also live in the east coast and my tomatoes suffer from early blight , aphids, spider mites, and lacewings.

Hi Gary, I really enjoy your channel. This is my third year gardening. I follow all your advise. Could you please advise me on what to do about white spots on my collards and cabbage. I've never had this issue before. Please help
Thanks for watching. It is hard to say without seeing a picture. But forest start is it spreading. Is it fungal or insect eggs. I am not sure what to advise but hydrogen peroxide is a good cleaner. I would use the dosage I have for my tomato and hydrogen peroxide videos. I dont use it regularly on brassicas but they have strong leaves. Maybe start with a weaker dilution. Good luck. Good morning Gary, I was wondering if you had experimented with mancozeb for tomatoes I noticed it was not in your video. This is my first year combining liquid copper and mancozeb. I have noticed that there are still leaves spots but growth isn't impeded. More to come

Hey Gary just subscribed great content. Could you recommend a product name or product type for treating Strelitzia Nicolai and Reginae. Think I have leaf blight very serious on my banana trees too.
My problem is the leaf-footed bugs and the worms in my zucchini and squash. Nothing works on them. They just take off flying when I hit them with neem or soapy water. Have a Blessed and Wonderful Day!
So many insects. That is why I keep a journal. Just test and record till I find something that MOSTLY works. Reduction is what I go for. Gary, in regards to leaf damage can you touch on the problems fruit flies can do in a video for the viewers? I set some traps a few weeks ago and I have thousands of flies in each bottle was really surprised how many are in a small garden. But at this time I have the best looking squash and zucchini plants I have ever grown.
I never had them so its hard for me to talk about it. I usually work off what I have and deal with. 1000s in a trap are crazy. Where are the coming from? We have had a really wet, rainy early spring. Now the bugs are just horrible this year, way worse then it ever has been. They are eating all plants and flowers. Will you be doing a video on ways to control and kill the bugs without using harsh pesticides?

Hi Gary! I bought 13 Raspberry plants from Family Farm & Home. They looked beautiful but I put them in the ground and we got so much rain that my beds were flooded. Now, about 5 of them are almost completely bare. The leaves started turning brown, getting crispy and wilting. The rest are big and lush and beautiful. I have fed them twice in the last month and I think it's fungal. Do you think you can use hydrogen peroxide to fight a fungal disease that is in the soil? I'm not so sure that it's just the leaves being effected. It's so weird, I have hundreds of wild raspberries in my yard and they grow amazing, I would think that cultivated varieties would do even better. I have 11 Heritage and 2 Fall gold plants.(The fall gold ones are doing fine). The ones that are effected are all next to each other.
Not sure what it is. H202 would work but I think a copper spray is best for fruits. Hi Gary! You are amazing. I will be doing this next year because I did have some tomato plants get "sick." I didn't what to do. I have so many plants that I don't want the to spread. I lie in Minnesota. Does the cold kill the fungus in the soil? I do have raised garden beds and last year the soil froze into an ice block!
The cold should take care of fungi in the soil. Remember it floats and over winters on host plants so a prevention spray routine is key. Good luck. I bought peppermint oil and rosemary oil from your store. Do you know if hydrogen peroxide reacts with the peppermint oil if added to the spray? I'm at war with fungal diseases and spider mites and was wondering if this would help with both at the same time. Thank you so much for your videos.

Hi Gary inspired by ur videos started growing a couple of eggplants, peppers and a few tomato plants this year... In the UK the climate has been crappy so a difficult first year so far... I spotted a couple of brown patches on some of the tomato stems.. Not all but the leaves and fruit look fine so far.. Dysod ting this as blights.. No sprayed the spots with hydrogen peroxide.. Should i remove the plant and destroy or should i wait to see if the blights spreads further?

Gary, does aspirin therapy help against fungal diseases? I have been using it since my tomatoes were planted. We are about to have 5 days of rain and I worry about septorra starting on my most leafy tomatoes.
Hi Gary - I've been subscribing to your videos for several months now - thanks for the great information. I also live in Zone 7 (Northern Virginia) so your comments are especially relevant for me. I'm having an issue with my tomato plants - heirlooms of Cherokee Purple and Italian Beefsteak. The plants are green and robust, but the new leaves are twisted and curled and feel a bit thicker than the other leaves. There is no yellowing and no evidence of white flies or aphids. We've had some very hot weather as you know, followed by some much cooler nights. Could this be just a physiolotgical response to drastic temperature change? There doesn't seem to be any indication of viral or fungal disease. The plants are green and growing like crazy.
So any chance of grass killer drift hitting it. If not probably is physiological. But now matter what it is, you can only wait it out and hopes it corrects. Gary , thanks for a very informative video. You mentioned not to use hydrophobic extract of neem. Earlier, I bought Ferti-Lomé Tripple Action containing 70% of that, and also .25% Pyrethrins. It’s labeled as Insecticide, Fungicide, and Miticide. Few days ago I noticed an outbreak of flee beetles on one potato plant, and this stuff worked pretty well. Do you have any experience using combo products like this?
Insect dust of any kind works best on flea beetles. Look up flea beetles on my channel. It shows you how. The vid is about eggplant. Please visit my seed shop www.therustedgarden.com for Neem Oil, Peppermint & Rosemary Oil for pest and disease management. Root drench of hydrogen peroxide works pretty good. I notice when its a mildly cool summer here in Ohio I have no problems. High heat and humidity and its early blight. Foliar spray late evening you 100% right.
Using worm castings and insect frass that contain chitin will create a waxy coating on you plants that insect don't like and it will also cause the plant to be stronger, more vigorous and darker green.

Listen to Gary - for next year if you care about Tomatoes, do as he says and create a calendar or alert on your phone and get out there once a week and spray the damn things. Miss a beat - you're in trouble. Like I am now and I thought I was being insanely vigilant. Gary - how about a 'Big Guns' video for tomatoes for when the shit hits the fan and it's beyond Peroxide, Serenade, etc. Daconil, Manzocab, Copper, etc. etc.
Thank you for the informational video, very well covered. I have a mango tree which I have lost all of the fruits last season due to possibly anthracnose. This season I want to be proactive in spraying the plant to retain fruits. The tree is now flowering a lot. Is it too late to spray it with copper fungicide? I applied a mix of neem oil and castille soap last week, but starting to see many flowers turning black and falling off the tree. Thanks.
I dont know enough about mangos to say but you definitely want to spray it with antifungal. Maybe ask local nursery what is best. sodium bicarb aka baking soda has sodium in it. If I remember correctly, sodium bicarb is bit more effective than potassium bicarb (one brand name is mil stop). And it has 1hr REI and 0 hr PHI, OMRI listed and GRAS by EPA or was it FDA. I'm not sure if you can overuse baking soda to affect the sodium level in the soil but I do worry. So I use MilStop. your thoughts on sodium build up in soil using sodium bicarb. Great video and informative. Thanks.

Which is best for blueberry plant? I got some beautiful blueberry plants from online but it can with alot of septoria. Should I try to treat them or just dump them?

How about spraying on shrubs like sweet viburnums? Also, can you spray the trunks? My sweet viburnum hedges are not doing good this year. :( I used Neem Oil and seemed to help a little, but I did get copper fungicide. Afraid to use it. Also, I am in Florida where it's starting to get kind of hot.
I just have never done that. Just test spray the new sprays and wait 48 hours for leaf damage. If good, spray the rest. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More
I use different sprays an apply per the instructions on the bottle. I use Bonide Fruit Tree Spray, Bonide fruit and plant guard and later in the season i use Bonide Orchard Spray. This time if year i use the first two and alternate. I also "tank mix" Bonide Mancozeb and Spectracide Immunox to control apple scab. Now that you have it you can't get rid of it. In the fall rake up the leaves as best you can to take any overwintering spores with them. In the spring prune your trees to let air and light in. I don't work for Bonide or Spectacide. It's just what I use. Best of Luck.
Not a lot as I am learning. But I sprayed them with copper fungicide yesterday. That seems to be effective from all I read. My son bought me a dwarf cherry tree. It was a brutal summer in the mid west and my tree displayed powdery mold. I took it out of direct sun and scheduled watering. I started to notice spots 2 days now. IM COMPLETELY FREAKIN OUT!! Think I can save this almost $100 plant? Don't see powdery mildew thou!?!

I'm dealing with Downey mold on Tomatoes & Butternut squash. Yes, I started late, and now i'm trying to kill it off with Peroxide & Copper. I sprayed the former 2 consecutive nights, and then this same brand of Copper night 3. I notice the RUST color developing the same night I hit it with the Copper (night 3). Then, I let it go for 3 days, and noticed the YELLOW ring around the RUSTY spots, Does the YELLOW mean the mold is still active? Thanx

I think I have a little rust on my pole beans. I sprayed neem oil with azadirachtin to see if that helps. We have had a lot of rain this month and I think that would be the reason. My leaves at the bottom are yellowing and some were chewed on a little. Can I keep using that or should I use the peroxide mix? My bean pods look good and have no rust anywhere. My bush beans have a little rust also, and the pods aren’t showing rust either.
I don't know what best treats rust but I think any anti fungal or h202 might be more effective than neem. @@THERUSTEDGARDEN after researching, I don’t think it’s rust. Everything I looked at connected to rust didn’t fit. I think it’s some kind of insect disease. Some of the leaves turned some type of yellow and it might be spider mites. I also know I had thrips on my tomatoes close by. Maybe that’s it also, not sure.

I agree. Try organic, Try again and if it doesnt work non organic in a planned manner is fine,

🍌🫑🌶🥒🥔🍈🍉🍅🍍🫙☀️🌧💦🍄🌱🌿🪴🌷🌹🌺🌸🌻
did you make the same mistake 3x?
I had dampening off happening with my watermelon and cucumber plants so I made a neem oil spray and soaked the spray all over the plant and into the root. It worked great and my plants survived even if it looked like it was dying for an entire week but they all bounced back
Wicked. Bicarbonate of soda was a game changer for me. Incredible if you catch powdery mildew early
Thanks Gary for so many informative advices. What can I do for transplanting roses from branches getting black,
before it takes roots.
Been hearing good things about Daconil with Tomatoes.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Thank you for this video. What is on your zucchini leaves in the video? I have some of my leaves doing this. The plant seems healthy but its spreading. I can't find any info on what it is.
Some Zukes have those cool patterns on their leaves if that is what you are referring too. No worries

Hey I was wondering what will be the best fungicide that you will recommend for someone dealing with gummy stem blight in watermelons?
Garden safe and doctor earth are working so far so good. For me hydrogen peroxide didn’t try that yet but is good for all plants are just tomatoes please let me know thank you
H202 can be use on anything but you need to test spray it.

Thanks

With so many fungicide sprays, will the vegetables be still edible? Baking soda may be OK but the rest...I dont know.

my hero

I keep wondering about Vinegar.
sodium bicarb aka baking soda has sodium in it. Thanks.
That is true. You do need to really over use it though

Have you ever tried citric acid as a fungicide? Is it effective at all?
Hey Gary!! So I was a big proponent of using serenade until they discontinued it! I saw bayer makes a commercial grade serenade aso now but wanted to see what you suggest instead of the great serenade that was discontinued for organic fungus control?
I could never find why they stopped it. I really just use baking soda and even milk on squash. I am still searching for something as good.

Neem oil, 10 ml per liter + 10 drops soap.
Which is best for blueberry plant? I got some beautiful blueberry plants from online but it can with alot of septoria. Should I try to treat them or just dump them?
They are pretty hardy. Sometimes they are beat up when you get them but established plants do fine. Not sure what is the best but I would go with copper based for fruit related issues.

Thank yo very much this is appreciated. Now hear what is funny, esp to a new gardener.. you have said spray two weeks before they show up. Umm how do you know when that is. So that's probably why ppl spray when they see it.
Good questions. Take notes first year and start conversations with local gardeners and nurseries. You just have to learn the dates by experience.

Do you know anything about fungus disease on apple trees? What is the best way to help if my apple tree has spots on the leaves?
Jim Cavanaugh thank you for the info.

So I am not a tree expert. But often leaf damage doesnt me tree death. So it should live. Id find a tree antifungal and stick to a spray routine

How does this apply to fungus on trees?
I dont see the link for the hydrogen peroxide!
Then, I let it go for 3 days, and noticed the YELLOW ring around the RUSTY spots,
Does the YELLOW mean the mold is still active?
Thanx
I am not sure without seeing it but in a couple more days you can assess better.
