    Some years ago, The very well known Chen ting hung came to Brighton to give a tai jj and Qi gong seminar. When asked about this practise he gave a severe warning. He said that there were Mental hospitals in Hong Kong full of people who had attempted to develop this. TheJade pillow point in particular is very dangerous. You can seriously damage your nervous system.

      It is because many people try to practice these methods without proper instructions. They are greedy to have a strong energetic feeling so they behave rashly.
      Any person who has studied internal alchemy will laugh when they hear such a statement since we never intentionally practice the Jade gate. That kind of practice is for idiots and thieves who want to brainwash their students through psychosis.

      @@QigongProject Well you are one of a whole number of people who are posting information about this practice, so people are bound to experiment on their own without guidance without knowing the potential dangers, aren’t they! There are books that certainly do suggest the use the jade gate point such as Yang Jwing ming’s tome on the micro cosmic orbit. Maybe he is misguided, so I suggest that you correct him so that he doesn’t put out more books with this information. I have yet to see somebody post the fact that this orbit follows the pathway of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, which suggests that the practice strongly stimulates it. The Tang dynasty Chinese knew nothing about the nervous system. I am not suggesting that this movement of Qi is just the function of the nervous system, but the fact the nervous system can become overstimulated and even damaged by this practice is a relevant one. So many people look to these ancient practises in the belief that they can supply methods of spiritual practise missing in the modern world. Some I am sure can.

      @@QigongProject Hi , I was cut off before finishing . We have to remember that all these practises were developed before the advent of modern medical science and like ancient Western medicien are full of some very strange misguided ideas, such as the brain being a reserve of marrow for the bones, or that mercury is good for you. I still think that the warning I posted was correct.I may be wrong, but I detected a certain irritation in your reply, but I would like to commend you on the excellent content of postings. Simon

      Half of my previous message does not appear,so to repeat. I have yet to see the various pundits posting on the the subject of the small heavenly circulation that it more or less exactly follows the path of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Tang Dynasty China would have known nothing of the pathways of the nervous system and would have classified the sensations as Qi. It stands to reason that the nervous system can become overstimulated by this method. I don’t believe that classifying all movement of Qi as a function of the nervous system, however they are certainly functioning in tandem some of the time. Please not that there are a whole number of books out there describing how the Qi should be led through the 3rd tricky gate. Notably Yang jwing ming’s tome on the small circulation. If you believe him to be wrong then maybe you should correct him so that in the future misguided information will not be available to the general public who in their search after spiritual truths , and experimenting on their own ( as people will always do )won’t be put at risk

      Hi again, I want to offer a point form response to your critique since it will save time and be a little clear compared to an essay:
      - the ancients knew about the nervous system, specifically Galen and Ibn Sina talked about it, but they misunderstood its function and believed it to be a passage for Pneuma. The Internal Classic did a better job of defining its function and said that the brain and nerves served to carry awareness to the body. None of them knew about the different nervous systems, but they did know about functions of stimulation and suppression as is well evidenced in the Chinese Medicine classics which use various methods to either raise or calm the spirit.
      - No one at that time in history ever claimed the nervous system mediated the small orbit in any way, that theory was developed in 1914 by a meditation master named Jiang Weiqiao who happened to follow Pavlov among other texts. He also never claimed the orbit follows the path of the nervous system, that is completely nuts. He said that because the parasympathetic nervous system regulates rest and repose its function must be correlated with the deep meditation state.
      I'm going to follow up in a second comment...

    Wonderful lecture. Regarding the microcosmic orbit, I always hear about going up the spine and down the front but what do you think about bypassing the du and ren channels and instead using the zhong mai (central channel) and moving qi up and down from the hui yin up to the bai hui and repeating? It seems to be more effective

    • @QigongProject
      @QigongProject  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's a good question.
      Some schools directly cultivate the center channel such as Vajryana and Murāqabah but in China mostly the schools don't.
      In Neidan the reason is because the placement of the mind causes either the Ren or du to open first. In Qigong it is just a convention, but it is possible to import middle channel methods from Yoga etc... I use Murāqabah for this before I practice moving Qigong.
