Hi, isn’t the total number of factors, x+y, x-y. equal to 49, and therefore the number of ordered pair solutions (x,y) one for each of the factor pairs - ie 49 ?
If we but plot a hyperbola it'll have infinitely many pairs for the pair of real numbers (x,y) right? I tried to solve it geometrically then I realized it was for integers.
The correct answer is 98 instead 49. Because x,y can be negative, so to every combination of (x,y) positive the negative (-x,-y) is also valid. I checked the oficial solution.
Since x and y have to be integers, use (x+y) (x-y) hack and also initially reduce 2000^2 to 20^2 for fast calc. You will land on (x+y) (x-y)= (100) *(4) quickly. And then (52+48) * (52-48). Turn into hundreds to get back and you will land on x=5200 and y=4800. Then verify the answer.

Well I think the answer is 99.. you missed the case where y=0. Considering the graph of the equation, the answer must be odd number.
