  • An audio accessory from about 1982 - 1985. Plug two components in like a receiver and a cassette deck to turn on/off, record, play, wake/sleep to music, etc.

I've had three different models of this so far. You can plug two components into the back and use it to power your components off and on which comes in handy if you want to use it as an alarm clock and wake up and fall asleep to your sound system. Right now the third one needs to be repaired so I'll be contacting Pioneer to get it fixed because I love this thing. Got my first one in the late 70's/early 80's. Small square box, silver on the front with a blue display, didn't look anything like the one in the video above and then I had the one in the video above, & now the one I have looks like the one in the video above except it's all black with an Amber display. I'd be lost without this so I've got to get it repaired. Just hope Pioneer can still fix it since I bought it in 1990. Don't know if they even work on these things anymore.

I found a DT-580 black face, put to trash, use it to turn on and off Christmas lights, what a wonderful find!

My DT-510 went bad 20 years ago, running fast then just showed 12:00. Actually found new circuit board from Pioneer. Its been working great except today it is running fast again. Might buy newest DT used. Slim and fits nicely above stereo unit. Plus a nice clock for living room.

For those who are not aware... these timers use the wall AC voltage (60 Hz in the USA and many other countries, 50 Hz in many countries in Europe, LATAM, etc.) to regulate the internal clock, unlike more modern and precise clocks that use quartz oscillators (usually at 2^15 = 32768 Hz). ((Even though quartz clocks were very much available in the 1980s)). So some of the audio timers come with a 50 or 60 Hz switch, and a 120 or 240 Volts switch. So if the AC frequency is 60 Hz and you slide the switch to 50 Hz, then the clock will run 20% faster, or if the AC frequency is 50 Hz and you slide the switch to 60 Hz, then the clock will run 17% slower. That may be the case.
This is very cool, well built. I have one similar. But these clocks are not very precise in comparison for instance with an iHome alarm clock, and need a UPS power supply to keep running uninterruptedly. But to turn on/off a device and to be used as a timer then it can be useful. I find it cool and well built!

My DT-510 was working great for the last 20 years. Then without touching anything it started running fast. Sometimes resetting it, it will work normal for about a day, then run fast. It's broken.

It uses regular two-prong cords that are not polarized. Both prong ends are the same shape, one is not bigger than the other like on a polarized cord. And it will not accept a 3-prong (grounded) cords.

You could use it as an alarm if you set it to turn your stereo on and have the volume up as loud as you need to be jolted out of bed lol

Basically you plug a radio or recorder in it to turn on and off at a certain time.
