Outstanding video. I'm not even a drummer; I just rode by the factory on my bike this summer. Very well done. Thanks to Noble & Cooley and Columbus Percussion for posting.
this is the most bizarrely awesome thing I've ever seen... what an incredible set of themes... irony, surprise, legacy, pride, regionality, business and human genius. NOW I GET it and finally understand why these drums are true artistic statements of craft and why they are small. this man is the freaking rain man of drums . Every drummer I know who can affirord an N&C drum, should have one. stuff like this has all but dissapeared in this world. I cherish mine everyday! hope to take that tour someday.
I hope you take the tour as well. I grew up in the next town over. It’s definitely worth it to see the factory and it’s a beautiful drive. I would suggest going during the Granville harvest fair in October
oh how stupid are you? reply back with anything you have ever played that resembles talent on any noble and crap set.....do it, do it, do it NOW bet you cannot because you work there piece of shit
Just took delivery of a N&C 8 x 14 Walnut ply snare - outfitted it with Evans HD dry and 300 snare side. My GOD the thing's got the fullest sound I've ever played. Thank you guys. I LOVE it!
Must admit I've never heard of this company though I played drums for about 35 years. I would feel right at home in the workshop. I grew up on in a woodworking family and loved it - the smell of the wood and all that old well built machinery. Good stuff. Great sounding drums and nice playing too.
That is amazing I'm 47 years old been playing drums ever since I was eight I've played many different brands I'm drum sets however I love them all but I think I found my new one
WOW! Very impressive. I have a 1988 solid shell class snare drum, it is wonderful. I'm an customer of Columbus Pro Percussion, I used to travel to you "Drum Daze" every year!
A friend of mine up here in the local midcoast Maine open mic night scene showed up one night to play drums and brought his new kit to show us. He decided his old vintage ludwigs needed to be retired at home from the gigging life and he get the new kit of his dreams. He had just bought a beautiful Noble and Cooley kit in a natural finish. He insisted I get up and sit in on them. Man did they sound great! Plus my friend is great at tuning so he got them sounding amazing. I love the old factory and the hand craftsmanship. Such a great company. If I could afford any kit it would be a N&C for sure.
I know these drums are beyond most drummer's budget, but they are worth every single penny. The quality is unmatched to any other drum manufacturer in the United States..
Absolutely true. I dreamt about having one of them for probably 15 years and, just two weeks ago, I got my oak 14 x 3.75 SS or solid shell. It was worth every cent and day I waited for it. At times, I stare at it like an insane person haha !
Wow, Great video showing how these fine drums are made using original machinery, hand made and finished throughout the process. Really enjoyed hearing the set played as well. I will definitely be stopping into CME to see & hear these up close. 👍
This drum is my future dream but for now I'm happy with my Tama Slp Spruce fat in 20/12/14 Believe it or not the sound is beautiful and extremely versatile for jazz, rock, blues, rnb soul pop funk, old school, African music, really top notch.
I saw this video a few years ago and kinda glossed over the rural Mass part as, “probably 4 hours away,” so I never bothered to look it up. Then a week and a half ago I was driving to Westfield Mass for work and drove right by it…it’s only an hour from house in southern CT.
It's amazing to see this place and the original process of making drums. Respect to those who had the job of pulling shells straight out of the oven like that, had to be hard on the hands doing that all day, not sure I would have even been brave enough to even reach in there Haha Even Jim hesitated!
best sounding and nicest snare i EVER played was a N&C alloy classic at a studio fifteen years ago in olympia washington. i asked if the owner would consider selling it, he said NO, but you can use it while your at the studio all you want.i did.
One of the best, most interesting tours I’ve watched. I would have rather heard you guys talking, without the drum playing in the background and would have loved to hear the actual drums at the end. From what I could tell, they sound amazing. I KNOW the ride cymbal sound good. Great video though !
I have wanted to own a Noble and Cooley drum ever since seeing Chris Whitten with his N&C kit in a drum magazine. this was in the 80's, but it'd not until very recently (this month) that I finally purchased one; a 14x5 maple made in 2019. I knew that it would be a great snare drum, but I honestly did not expect it to dethrone the Craviotto (it's sulking upstairs, like a scene from Toy Story it is :-) ) I cannot put my finger on it, but right now it is my favourite snare drum ( I have 24, 23 unhappy snare drums) it has something special that belies its size and looks.
should have chilled on the groove in the background. I'd like to know how old the tools/machines are along with that building. More info. That's pure hand made stuff. Crazy. Priced out of my arena but I do believe after witnessing this, they do justify the price. American old school craftsmanship no doubt.
I always wondered who made my toy drum set from Sears 1968ish. Snare and Tom clipped onto bass drum, cymbal mounted in the middle. Blue and black pattern on the metal shells. All be dammed. My first of many drums to come.
I've been playing the same kit for 30 years but this has inspired me to start shopping for a N & C set. I wonder if they offer custom orders and are they primarily used for Jazz? hmm Wheels are turning...Thanks for posting this Jim!
Thanks for watching! Yes, N&C absolutely does custom orders and their drums are very versatile. They have artist endorsements in all different genres of music. Send us an email at mail@columbuspercussion.com with what kind of kit you are thinking about and we will walk you through all the available options and pricing. Thanks!
What does Tulip wood sound like maybe compared to maple. I was impressed with how much one person like Mr.Jay Jones , does hands on to complete one of those beautiful instruments, how much does one cost? Depends on who is listening to it. Great video.👍✌️
Thanks for watching! Send us an email at mail@columbuspercussion.com with what all you would like to see priced out and we'll get a pricing quote to you. As for how tulip and maple compare sound-wise, they're pretty similar. Under close scrutiny, the maple might sound just a little warmer but overall the sound is pretty similar. Thanks Again!
Watched this right after watching a DW factory tour vid. Quite the difference! I love the old building and old school manufacturing techniques. Could have used a lot more explanation of how the drums are made, and a lot less of Jim Rupp showing off.
they are spoiled thats for sure... the bar was raised in the last years with equipment and access to knowledge for video production being abundant. there would have been so many opportunities to show the beauty of these old buildings, machines and techniques but the video production made it look rather chaotic and low quality.
Those are all Zildjian Avedis series cymbals. A great sounding series from Zildjian that we usually have in stock. I believe the sizes are 20", 18" and 14" hi hats. Email us at mail@columbuspercussion.com and I can send you a pricing quote. Thanks for watching! Corey-CP
Great video but the background drums are way to loud so i think they should be very quiet. Please next time if a video id done don't make the drum background so loud.

My favourite drum company by far. The Jones family are wonderful people and make fantastic drums
Old Technology Meets Modern Drum Making !! Awesome 👍🏽 Video !!
Beautiful sounding drums. That snare sounds so good it's ridiculous.
Great to see a proper drummer demonstrating.
Such an incredible Company! Greatest drums ever made! Incredibly honored to be an N&C artist, thank you Noble & Cooley for what you do!!!

I had a chance to hit them once. Best drums I ever heard.
The word drum is not adequate to describe what is going on here. These are legendary, artisan musical instruments without a doubt. Best wishes.

Just got a noble&cooley snare! All i can say is that it is the best snare ive ever played. So responsive and such a clear and focused tone.
Agreed can’t beat them!
Thank you for sharing this great video. The ride cymbal over the bass drum is like butter!
Not many TH-cam videos make me get up from eating and dance. Those grooves through the middle section👌👌 proper length too, great video lads
A stopping point on my All American Tour, A.K.A. My Bucket List! Thanks and Blessings!!!
It’s a great area!!! You won’t be disappointed! Jon the son is a great drummer!
Wonderful video and great playing Jim. I am a new artist with N&C and they are just a great company/people to be with.

They aren’t that expensive. Sonor is more. But Cooley is better. You can get a cd maple kit for around $3,000. I got my like new used kit for $2400

Definitely need to drop the drum solo background. Would be nice to hear the machines and their conversations along the way.

They actually made solid shell drums. Everyone else uses plywood. This is amazing.
Nope there are other companies making solid shell drums too. Craviotto is probably the other most prominent in the industry.
incredible!!!

Great looking and sounding drums. Bit of a missed opportunity here though. If I made drums like that, I'd want to showcase them in a better way.
Great video Jim! I didn’t know those drums had so much history. I’ll be in your store to grab a set. As always, great drumming!
Love the baion rhythm!

It would be wonderful to hear some drums rather than a ride cymbal. N&C make snares no other Co. Can hold a candle to.
They make great snares, and others make snares that are just as good.
