This was a kick-ass playset, it was an endless amusement to me, and I had other playsets. The Cantina was one of my favorite scenes in the original Star Wars (we didn't know Episode IV until much later) and the aliens and especially Walrus Man were my favorite figures, and the ability for Ben to attack him, as well as Han shooting Greedo were always fun to me. I miss this, I'm so sad it got broken.

The Falcon was 100% a playset, so many scenes happen right outside the ship.
Put the legs down on a white sheet, you're on Hoth, put it on the grass; Yavin or Endor.
Set it on the dirt and you're on Tatooine. On a rock- instant Space Slug asteroid.
My fav was the Dagobah playset, it had quicksand!
This channel do be poppin' though!

I had a cousin who took apart my Death Star playset every time he came over. The cantina set got a lot more use from me just because I didn't have to put it together.
I had that Cantina Adventure Set too. It came with the four figures including Blue Snaggletooth. This was before they got released as regular action figures and I was thrilled to get Greedo.

I'm sure it would involve some research, but I'd like to think it still exists. For the record, the Creature Cantina was my favorite playset other than the Death Star. The Imperial Attack Base was pretty damn cool as well!

I've never had this playset, but I've always loved the Cantina.
I was so close to buying this playset, I almost did.
I agree, I'd put the Mos Eisley streets backdrop right next to the playset so you'd actually have to use the bar doors and that there's a clear distinction between the bar, there's an inside and outside.
I take insipration on who goes in the cantina streets from those exquisite Ralph McQuarrie paintings. :)
Honestly, I think alot about putting Jabba in the cantina.
Maybe he had his dais in the bar like that's his own private booth or something. :)
    Thanks for the video

That Cantina playset looks cool, although I never had it. My favorite playset that I had (besides the Death Star) was the Imperial Attack Base (from Empire Strikes Back). Still not sure why it was an Imperial base, since the Rebels had the base on Hoth.

Another character figure that should’ve existed back then was Garindan (the informant with the metal Gonzo nose) - he had more screen time than Snaggletooth, a line of speech, and a more vital role in the plot. Great background “matte” art on this play set! The Palitoy UK Creature Cantina had less moving parts but it did have a sunken seating area, a bit like one of those “conversation pits” from way back.

Two things I really agree with, this playset was not much, but for me as a kid, this was bad ass and really cool to play with. Also I used the pegs a lot, since a bar must be full of people and the figures didn’t stand that well if you play action with some figures but want the others to stay standing. Second thing is the barkeeper...I think that was the first figure from the not vintage line that I wanted to have...I always used hammerhead as barkeeper, Guess I saw that in some commercial, but I was never happy with it...interestingly, for us at that time, there were figures in this playset...the aliens and specially the band was almost as good as figures! Really great playset and palitoy modified it with some kind of printed seats and a sofa...great time!

This was one of my first playsets as well. It was probably the second one I had after the Death Star. Yes I do count the Millennium Flacon as a playset, although as you point out it did double duty. I think most of the time I played with it, it was open and stationary. I played with the Cantina a lot, but still have it complete. I figured out how to replace the rubber band to keep the doors working.
So, yes Death Star is No.1 and Falcon is No. 2, but have to say Land of the Jawas was my No. 3 favorite playeset. Cantina would probably rank at 4 since none of the later ones were all that great except maybe Dagobah. Now that I think about it, I think Dagobah would be no.3, Jawas 4 and Cantina 5. I played with the Droid Factory a lot too, but mostly played with the robot parts and not the crane and ramp base so much.
So I agree that the MF is a playset for the most part, that merely doubles as a vehicle. However, the question I pose is: Is the Rebel Transport a vehicle, a playset or just a carry case in the shape of a vehicle that can also be used as a playset?

In retrospect, this and some other playsets look like nothing and with some creativity, something better could be made at home.
Still though, the power of a toy collection and a few little features made all this stuff desirable. I never saw one in person so it was fun to imagine.
"I would just call it a bar because I was a dumb little kid. I didn't know what a cantina was."
Maybe it was because of age at the time, but a word like cantina was one I learned from the toys, so it was one of the words I first heard in or in relation to Star Wars and then forever associate with it. Another was "fatigues." My mother still calls the movie's location the "Creature Cantina" because of the exposure to the toys.

I was 5 when Empire came out so the first playsets and vehicles I ever received were from that line. I knew kids that had this but it was never complete. Quite frankly I always thought it was kind of a lame toy. I enjoyed the scene in the movie but my action figures never ate or drank. They pretty much just kicked ass and took names 24/7. So a playset for my figures to drink and mingle didn't interest me.
