    The early games parkour was so fun, because it was entirely up to you how to reach a destination, now parkour is annoying, because it's a path system, that if you screw up the animation doesn't know what you're doing and freaks out.

    • @brotbrotsen1100

      That's how it always felt to me honestly, i never felt like there is any freedom in the parkour, always was like idk climbing ladders but with cool animations. You where pretty much on rails all the time. I think they should revamp the whole system and make it more involved as a whole. Like how you can just climb everything in Botw, they should do something similar here and not just make you snap onto whatever is closest to you.

    What is probably the most frustrating part about games like this is that you can still see glimpse (although very small) of what could be if more time an and actual care went into creation of the game. Sadly that is not what Ubisoft is about but rather pushing games out as fast as possible. The "fast food gaming"- description couldn't sadly be more fitting. But it is sad because it all feels like a waste of time and money of devs that at least some actually care about developing good games.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Yea this is literally just a filler game to sit in between Valhalla and the next project based in feudal Japan. And they've even more or less directly stated this openly, that Mirage is cooked up from a mix of DLC ideas for Valhalla, and a "quick and dirty" sample to test the waters with going back to their roots and just use it to try and please some of the more traditional fanbase with a project that ultimately never was a big investment from Ubisoft in the first place. And like you say, it's evident there are glimpses of bright ideas that the developers surely would want to iterate more on, but given their limited time and budget with this title, it's just a half baked "meets the baseline vision" kind of game.

      100%.
      They need to just separate the two.

      I think micro transactions have destroyed gaming as well, you don’t search for and earn awesome robes like in brotherhood but they’d rather sell you junk that take away from the game.

Gorgeous and fluid parkour, a dense living city, combat mechanics that made you slow down and think, shockingly good graphics and lighting, modular outfit customization, and a new co-op mode. It really only fell through due to technical issues and a weak story.

The new type of AC felt really refreshing and im saying this repressing the memory of vallhalla since in 6 times of playing it ive manage to get 4 hours into the story max. I Love AC Odyssey especially because yes it has a main story but the world feels so alive to me even afterwards. Hunt down ancient beeings, a cult or just decide which side shall win a war. I hated all the animous scenes post desmond era, they just consisted out of skipping dialouge and running from point A to point B to me. Now when you look at my oppinion about AC looking at your oppinion of Mirage it feels more like my animous experience. I will give the game a try and if i like it i buy it but my expectations are nearly non existent now. Great video the way you reflect upon the game sure brings us viewers a great impression.

    What makes me confused is why they keep stripping away things that have landed very well previously with fans. Unity's parkour mechanics were a big leap forward...for one game. Then they stripped it all away instead of innovating on that existing system. Parkour is such a fundamental part of the assassins creed franchise and I feel like they need to take another similar leap forward with a new game, I just think they're too scared to take a new leap with how much money they have invested...idk maybe they should take notes from Sony Santa Monica and just reboot this series entirely lol

The first few AC games had very engaging stories, this one is dull and convoluted. I find it graphically to be lacking as well, I have it maxed out on PC and aside from some instances the world appears dull and grainy. I was expecting something more aligned with the original games as far as a smaller map, less crazy skill tree, but with modern technological innovations like smarter AI, a better fighting system, decent story, smarter and more varied missions, etc. I think you could still achieve a “back to basics” AC while incorporating more modern features as listed above. I feel like there was an angle where Basim could've been presented as the assassin that didn't kill needlessly. Up until a few hours into the game, Basim can win without killing anyone. It's not until he gets his assassins' blade and an encounter with some bandits forces you to assassinate them. There was a moment where the player could've been asked whether to kill them or not, and it could've been Basim' core character trait going forward.
    If Basim was the Assassin who refrained from killing most, it could've been a cool effect added to the wanted system. One could lean into the thief vs assassin theme more, but instead it feels like the game as released multiple years too early.
    We could've had an Aladdin-like Cave of Wonders, Thieves Guilds... I think game developers are, rightfully, too scared to deal with any muslim culture and it's really unfortunate.

I know most players don't care about that, but in the newer games one thing they actually got pretty good were the historical buildings, settings, etc. at least for the most part even if other mechanics/aspects were bad. They even had like a historical run/overview of the Ancient Greece in Odyssey as far as I remember, which I've always read and appreciated. Is that present in the game at all? Do they even bother with some descriptions or mention anything in the dialogues about it? In the older AC Games they used to do that. Doubd it "backfired". Its naive to think Ubi didnt know what they were spitting out. You can tell it by watching at the dinamic of PR campaign that they had written off the game before relise. And their marketing division also pretty aware about who they are giving a key to :) Its just another dead on arrival "sequel" wich meant to get some cash out of people who would eat anything with "AC" on a box. Ubi perfectly knew the game sucks and they dont care so much about that, so they can allow to give those preview key to whoever :) They will still get those bucks, you watch.

      "Backfire" implies nothing was gained. They gained a reality check, which is far more valuable than some extra copies sold.. Whether they chose to do something with this lesson or not, is in their hands now. But backfire is the last thing I'd call this. If they throw the feedback out the window, then yes THAT would be a backfire decision by then.

    This whole franchise needs a complete overhaul - from mechanics, to writing, to combat, to quests, the whole lot. Also rpg elements need to go -like damage sponge enemies and levels etc - if someone is hard to kill, make it be due to their armor or their fighting skill. Not just a static health meter buff.
    The visual artists are doing great work, but you still get the sense that the game engine has stagnated their improvement of visual fidelity, as they have barely made any progress in the past 10 years. It's been incremental, but knowing what visual tech is available today, you just see that they have plateaued.
    Also, personally I really wish they would do away with most of the UI elements. It has almost become a staple for Ubisoft games, Assassin's Creed especially, to have everything highlighted in colors and "notice me" graphics and it entirely breaks any semblance of immersion. Oh you see a weak point for pick pocketing? Make it a giant glowing square why the fuck not. An enemy has a strong attack? Highlight it in bright red flashing color, why the fuck not. It's as if every single game mechanic is being visually explained to a toddler, or like an IKEA manual that is 100% fool proof. But it breaks immersion, it clutters the visuals, it makes the game feel so much more arcade. Slow motion, animation cutscenes, all this shit that takes you out of the moment for some scripted bs, makes me look back fondly at AC1 where things were natural and in harmony, you weren't being bombarded with graphical info everywhere, and the game was not holding your hand with over-the-top tips and hints highlights.
    How about a strong attack is highlighted by character movement and nothing else? How about danger being cue'd by a change in music score pace alone, rather than flashing red colors? How about objectives on the map are explored and YOU have to pin things on your own map that you find relevant, rather than the game serving it all to you on a platter designed by a graphic design intern?
    There are so many easy elements to tackle, yet the dev team can't for the life of them break the mold they have set thus far, despite the ever rising criticism of the franchise over the years.
    Also, how about an AC title in first person perspective, like Cyberpunk? Imagine how damn epic that would feel from an immersion point of view. This is a very extreme departure from their tried-and-true formula and I bet many would oppose to it, but I can't help but wonder how much potential there would be in a game like that. Like. Cyberpunk, but Assassin's Creed. A collab with CDPR to share the workload, man I'd love to see something completely wild like that.

    It just perfectly capsulates this game and the franchise in general that the protagonist is dressed in the white clothes very similar to Altair from the first game and it makes very little sense in this setting. The point of the clothes in the first game was the social stealth mechanic: Altair and the assassins wore white cloaks to blend in with the Christian priests/monks that wandered around in the cities during the crusades when the game took place. You could also say that since they opposed the templars, wearing the white robes and cloaks also mirrored their mortal enemies, even making fun of them as one dressed in similar colors was assassinating them. Here it seems as if the design is just paying lip service because "remember Altair and the OG games?".

You had it in AC 2 just bring it back and add some stuff like tree parkour from 3, the rope from 3, and just other good things from other series and add it to AC2. That was the best and should be the basis.

      DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A COPY AND PASTE AND IF ANY WORDS THAT COME WITH ILL INTENT WAS NOT DIRECTLY TOWARDS YOU...
      the things i literally mentioned is what makes AC1 not only unique but very good... no other game has been able to replicate the gameplay mechanics of AC1... the closest ones were unity but with syndicate, originally they were actually going to back and expand how AC1 functioned but deadline fcked Ubisoft Quebec up.... every game is repetitive, you take AC2s dlc missions where he goes to Florence then you'll realise how shallow AC2s gameplay is when it tried to do what AC1 already did... mission designs with stealth is so fckin bad in the ezio games as Ubisoft a company that made Splinter Cell had stealth missions in AC2 to fail when detected... that is BAD gameplay design as it takes away player freedom compared to AC1 where in order for you to get better, you had actually play and learn everything the game had to offer
      bozo, you need to stop thinking about AC1s gameplay at a surface level... everything from player freedom, utilising your environment to your advantage for example, pickpocketing ppl who have information about the target and the area the target is in and has key information about certain environments to use you your advantage like a hole in a wall on the north end of the rooftop building.... then comes assassinating targets which has effect on the gameplay that ties with the narrative for example, killing the Templar nurse made the mentally ill go out and rot which affects how you traverse.... you need me to keep going or not?
      the gameplay definitely isn't better... if you take 'gameplay' as a whole which includes mission design then AC1 takes it by far even though it is repetitive and it's supposed to be repetitive both for the player and Altair himself or the narrative itself but what makes up for it is the whole 'freedom' and 'mechanics' of it all... especially going 'hudless' that Ubisoft originally was going to have for AC1 as the default will enhance your experience if you actually take the time

    I kinda like more the classic 2 button combat system than taking 10 minutes to kill someone from Odyssey, you are an Assasin, someone who trained to kill, you can't expect to take minutes to kill someone if you make an opening and stab soomeone in vital sites

      I don’t mind the more simplistic combat system but if they’re going to do that, at least make it look good like the old games. Like this combat isn’t even satisfying or cinematic, it’s just the same copy and paste animations over and over. AC3 combat blows this away.

    • @toastyvampire6741
      @toastyvampire6741 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      AC3 combat is fundamentally the same if not easier than Mirage. It just looks cooler, it's more action-oriented with better finishers and multiple-enemy counters, because Connor/Haytham are somehow inhumanly strong. Moreover, it's important to remember that Mirage was developed in only 2 years with little resources and Valhalla as a starting point, by a fairly new and smaller team which is Ubisoft Bordeaux.

      Wait... you need 10 minutes to kill someone on Odyssey? It takes literally seconds, you even have a perk where you push a button and the character chain kills all enemies. It's literally the easiest game to kill anyone. Games where you need a whole 10 minutes to kill an enemy are more like Unity (so many people say they like the combats on Unity, I feel like they're such a draaaag, I mean at this point they're better on Syndicate) and Black Flag (and let's say Origins and Valhalla if you really want to reach - I do think it's easy as hell on Valhalla tho). Like?

    its also funny how crazy many of the weapon and outfit perks are focused around combat and how little is for stealth.
    For me, i only had 1 race. and for the contracts, I believe there actuall was 2 stories that had like a few contracts in each of them.. a merchant line and a slaver line. so some, although really lackluster amount was there.
    It didnt scratch my AC itch, so i just finished it to grab the story about basim, and now ill go finish odyssey and do the valhalla dlcs.
    Sadly for a game where they said they wanted to put the emphasis back to the stealth and parkour.. it was lacking in both, it felt like some mixture of AC2 and AC3.. personally i felt it would've been better if they used ACU mobility or an improved version of it. and the stealth felt weird too, but that may be because im used to the double takedowns..
