After learning about Bhindranwale’s character and listening to his speeches I can say that he wasn't a terrorist. But he wasn't a Sant either. An ‘extremist’ is the term that would best describe his actions and reactions. His way of speech was so rhetoric that he had accumulated a massive following in those days. At one point in his interview, where he is sitting among his followers, he said that the word Hindu in Arabic means thief. I checked it on the Google translation and no such thing is true. He is often credited that he asked for Khalistan, a different nation for Sikh community. But this is wrong to be accredited to him. It was Harchand Singh Longowal who was demanding a seperate nation. Bhindranwale in one of his speech said that getting a separate nation is not their primary aim but he wouldn't shy away from that opportunity if there's a formation of a different Sikh state. His primary aim was to get a seperate acknowledgement of the Sikhs in the Indian Constitution. Sikhs, in the Indian Constitution, are regarded as a sect under Hindus.

first of all, you believing Sant Bhindrawale is saint or not will not change the fact wether he is or not, so that's your belief, second, the word "Hindu" is not present in Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharta. It appears that this name was given to the indigenous people of India by the Muslim invaders. They referred to the people living near the Sindhu River, as Hindus and they consider them as slaves, subservient and blind. The name given to the religion which preceded the modern term "Hindu" was "Sanatan" religion and before that it was known as "Ad-Dharm". Hindu is not a Sanskrit term.

Furthermore, a Persian dictionary titled Lughet-e-Kishwari, published in Lucknow in 1964, gives the meaning of the word Hindu as “chor [thief], dakoo [dacoit], raahzan [waylayer], and ghulam [slave].”
In another dictionary, Urdu-Feroze-ul-Laghat (Part One, p. 615) the Persian meaning of the word Hindu is further described as barda (obedient servant), sia faam (black color) and kaalaa (black).
So these are all derogatory expressions for the translation of the term hindu in the Persian label of the people of India.
