This is my impression after receiving my camo E-cell Monarch Crown AWD about three weeks ago; I have put in nearly 200 miles of riding on it thus far. Every day, everywhere I went, I would have admirers asking me about the bike! I parked and lock it in front of supermarket and at least a couple of people would come up and ask about it. - - - So, here are the personal impression of the pros and cons of this bike thus far... - - - PROS- Extreme eye-catching and attention-getting. The bike has lots of power, especially when I put in the dual motor mode when I start out after waiting for traffic light! I then switch over to the rear hub drive after the start to conserve energy. I have since rode in pouring Seattle rain with this bike and the front and rear aluminum fenders worked magic to keep my pants relative dry! The Vee brand Bulldozer tires appeared to last better than the Kenda Juggernaut tires I had on my last ebike! The color cockpit LCD was very bright and easy to use; I especially love the inclusion of a clock on the upper left hand display so I don't need to whip out my phone to check ETA, etc. Excellent shocks front and back, though they are a bit stiff just now but I will adjust them accordingly soon. And I cannot forget the very fast charger included with the bike! The bike has three charging ports, one of each individual battery and then a combined charging port located near the base of the frame that I could charge BOTH batteries at the same time thru it. E-cell even included a Y- charging cable if I wanted to charge both dismounted batteries all at once! - - - Now for the CONS- It's a BIG and HEAVY bike; be prepare to make room for something the size of a single bed in your home! Maybe because I was use to slightly narrower handler bar, I found the steering becoming a bit unstable if I was to let go one hand, like when I had to adjust my glasses, etc., that meant the same turn used to take less arm movements in the past now would need for me to 'stretch' out just that tad bit more to steer around the same turn; the bike would readily wobble and if I was to take in even a little air or even just over some bumps, I definitely have to keep BOTH hands on firmly on the handle bar. While the extra wide palm extensions were 'comfortable' when cruising, they became less easily to grip firmly thus making me feel less in control of the steering. I had decades of experience riding single tracks and this big bike really take some new getting use to. This handle more like a speedy truck than a nimble SUV. Lights- while the bike has both head and tail lights, both could seriously use some upgrading! While the headlight was adequate and mounted firmly right above the front fender and powered by the bike, it was not a big or bright light; easy solution would be replace it with any after-market CREE high lumen light. The tail light was not a brake light as in my last ebike nor was it powered by the bike; it required its own AA batteries that will need to be replaced from time to time. Thinking maybe I would simply rig a long thin USB cable from it to the USB port by the frame mounted front battery. I loved the 3-prong fast charger but the very loud fan inside the fast charger needed some getting use to! Cable bundling could use a little more streamlining as the way it is now, it took up a big portion of the front luggage rack space, leaving little room on that small rack to strap anything bigger than a bread box. I could see using it to strap soft bundles like a sleeping bag for camping? I wish I could add pannier extensions below it too. For some reason, even when fully charged, the power level only show being 97% full; another Crown owner has made the same comment here also. I love the included mirrors but because of the width of the handle bar and the mirrors being bar end mounted, I could not use them; it would have been great if the mirrors could be mounted ON the handler bar like many motorcycles ones. I could barely get the bike thru my front door and would be impossible if the mirrors were mounted too. - - - All in all, I couldn't think of anything else I could add to my comments on my new bike. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great looking, fast, powerful and sturdy bike that could go on and off road equally at ease. Just don't expect it to handle like a true mountain bike though!
So I built my own bike, with a 1000W motor kit and 48V battery and a regular ol cargo bike, the end result cost me about $500 after everything was said and done and honestly has a pretty comparable distance and speed to this bike. I can't imagine paying 2.5k for that. Folks, build your own unless you think paying nearly 2k is worth not having to build it yourself. (screw on battery, replace hand breaks, wire everything, and replace wheel) It might not *look* as nice, but it's just as fun and turns heads.
Justin Trigg, but aren't you one wheel drive and hard tail without front suspension? And how much $ do you have in the Cargo Bike. Compare Apples to Apples then get back to us. I'd like to hear about your bike.
@@CurtisDrew1 One wheel (rear) and one battery, so admittedly I can't go as far as this bicycle but everything else is comparable. But the motor kit cost me 200 and the battery 300. My bike is just a cargo bike I got from walmart. Been zooming to and from work and around the local trails for the past few months and would say it's worth it to not pay thousands for something I can build myself for hundreds.
Ordered a Super Monarch in matte black. Should be in around mid-December, 2022. Luckily E-Cells home in Parumph, NV is only about 50 miles away from me. I'll use it for hunting in northern Nevada. Hunting in Nevada's vast areas requires either an ATV or a VERY capable e-mountain bike like the E-Cells Super Monarch. An s-mountain bike is SO much quieter than any ATV. It's a stealth way to hunt.
UPDATE: I FiNALLY got my E-CELLS bike in March 2023 ("supply chain problems") and love everything but the weight. But hey, that's what you get for having 2 motors and 2 batteries so until Li-ion batteries become solid state batteries I'll gladly pay the weight penalty. For hunting I bought a BLUETTI AC200 MAX lithium IRON phosphate power center and to charge it in the backcountry an Off Grid TREK solar blanket. No need tor a noisy Honda generator and dangerous, smelly gas cans. Also this setup is great for home power outages.
Micah Toll said, "Unless you're like me and you keep it in all-wheel drive mode all the time and rip through the trails with reckless abandonment". Has anyone ever noticed Micah has a good sense of humor? I'm dead. This is one my favorite reviews he's done besides the Frey electric bikes.
I just ordered one in matte black to replace my Trek pedal assist. The Trek was ok but I couldn't take it off road and it has no throttle. The Monarch looks to be allot more flexible, and fun!
I just purchased the super Monarch 1500w bike 17in frame, for $3750. I waited three long months but now I have it and yes it's fun but the speed is 32 mph ,I find that to be slow. With 2 motors and 2 batteries I would like it faster faster faster.
Personally I like the orange and all of the extras that match. I'd need someone to help me get it on the trailer hitch bike rack. Anyone make a Hydraulic lift rack? My old Chevy Chevette will be popping wheelies.
lavapix Just get a carrier with a ramp on one end. Sticks up in air when not being used. Mostly seen I believe with special physical needs, seniors etc, like the Rascal or whatever. Also seen in stores. Amazon has a gazillion of them, but I’d go with Thule or a few others, not something to save a little money on. Still, shouldn’t be much more than a hundred bucks, depending on weight etc. These ain’t That heavy, and I’ve had a trialed since 15 years old👍🏼
When people ask about the extra weight i explain that its only about the same as strapping an engine and tank of fuel to your bike. shuts them up every time :)
just a quick note: if you had the materials to do this you could actually add a 3rd battery to the top tube, it would have to be a hailong or shark battery but tbh it doesnt matter what kind of battery it is as long as it helps drive the bike
There are differences with electric bikes in the Netherlands. Is saw you started at the trafficlights without using the pedals and also saw it in other parts of your biking trail. In the Netherlands I think we would call it a moped with an extra use of pedals. This is the same for standard and fast bikes.
Those fat tires do take quite a hit on your range, tho. At least, rolling friction doesn't increase to as high of an exponent of speed as does wind resistance, so at higher speeds, the difference is probably negligent. This calls for some testing with various tire sizes and types.
MR bond i presume ? heehee. I have given this some thought too about rolling resistance , and have thought what if there was an option given with road tyres .
So, you're not really using this as a bike but rather a motorcycle shaped like a fat tire cruiser. This is great for many people. Looks like fun. I like mtn bikes and just bought first e-mtn bike which are closer to $6K in full suspension but you get to pedal a lot but go higher as you get older. I do like your review.
I'm looking for something that will give me a 60 mile range on level terrain if I keep it down to 20 MPH. Do you think I could squeeze that kind of range out of this bike?
if the bike is 1000watt version IE dual 500watt geared motors. 48volts. Dual batteries. Only using a single motor, but both batteries. Yea you might beable to pull that kind of range.
@@KillerRaptorr the 750 go's farther that is why I got that one. if you just use one motor then switch I never had a problem well over 90 miles I never need the 2 motors.
Awesome. Glad to see the market responding with higher battery capacities on ebikes. Maybe a theoretical limit could be reached on the frame integrity at 3 kWh with current battery tech. But certainly something closer to 2 kWh is a reasonable ask on a mountain bike frame.
I just ordered one all black, I live in nj and live 10 mins from work and 7 mins from a national park so I think it maybe a a good bet. Yes exspensive but feels like parts and components maybe worth it
@Varun Sharma... I ordered the camo Crown last month and was told I SHOULD be getting it the middle of this month! I sure hope so! They raised the price for the Crown to $3995, just shy of four thousands but from all the homework I have done, I believe it's worth it! - - - I have already called and chatted with them a few times and yes, they were extremely friendly and helpful! I just forgot to ask them whether it has an USB port to plug something in and whether the the headlight was wired to the bike and at what lumen. As I have yet gotten the bike yet, my initial intention was to wire that separate battery operated tail light to a USB port via long thin wire strapped along the frame if possible. - - - Varun, do you live near Palisades Interstate Park? I would like to hear what you think of your black steed and share stories of your new adventure!
Is there a reason that reviewers always mention lifting into a truck when talking about weight? Is there some reason a bike can’t just simply be ridden up a ramp into a truck?
@Dave Franklin I figured it was something like that, but it just doesn't look like there's anything attached to the bike the way it's moving, sorta surreal :P
@cujoedaman... I noticed his shadow has a stick attached to his right handle bar and the GoPro at the end of it but could not figure out why it did not show up in the video; look at his shadow in the video again and you will see the stick. Maybe it was Photoshop out by the editing?

What is the point / benefit of the second drive motor ? Its added to the weight and cost so it must have a benefit. I can only presume that the bike can handle very steep / rough terrain but the test riding didn't show anything like that. Unless you specifically want to go places that would utilize the second motor, this would not be the right bike for you.
AKA mopeds. If you go this fast, the amount of gearing you would need so your feet don't spin-out at these speeds would be ridiculous; going at these speeds in the cycle lane is a hairy place to be because of the stupid decision citys' have made to put driveways along arterial roads, because the the way they orientated cycle lanes next to turn-lanes and because of slip-lanes. If you are looking for a serious actual electric bicycle for good prices I would go with the eZee brand which have IGH options like the Alfine 8, 28Ah26v options, hydraulic brakes, 20mph speeds, and good enough uphill capability (with leg assistance) to tow a flatbed trailer with a big fridge on it.

Farzana Sharmeen the battery is way over $300. Plus, I can’t even get a cheap Walmart fatbike for $300... I’m going the DIY route for much better customized bike, it’s going to first use single 1000w hub motor (it will be 2 wheel drive later), with a modified 1.8kW speed controller (was working nicely on my road bike, and the motor is slightly smaller than the massive one on the fatbike), the 1.8kW is from measuring 37.5 amps continuous during acceleration at 58v (yes technically that is 2175w... but if the battery is basically dead at 48v its 1800w). It’s roughly a $250 battery (10Ah “48v” LiFePo4, which is why it’s WAY higher cost than Li-ion if you noticed), and the eBike kit is only like $165 plus taking it apart and soldering the current measuring shunts to mod it). The bike however is probably going to be like $500 because the cheapest crap I can find is the Mongoose fatbike at like $330, and you can get way better than it with the extra $170! So later when I add the second motor it’s going to bring the cost up to just over $1k, but you probably want a bigger battery after that because that thing will probably have like 5 mile range, but lol, I mostly want it as a monster truck bike basically to just do stupid stuff with it and smash through a trail or run over a pile of scrap metal for laughs or go mudding with it like I do a dirt bike but I think 2 wheel drive would be cool. It would basically be just to play with and nothing serious, just having fun.
Farzana Sharmeen there has always been a rule in engineering: cheap, works well, safe/eco friendly. Pick 2. For example: li-ion is lightweight with one of the highest energy densities (holds a lot of power) and relatively affordable upfront, but it has a short life expectancy and flammable (potentially burn your house down, or burn you alive if you’re unconscious in a wreck). Li-Po (lithium polymer) has insane power to weight ratio, a 10Ah battery like I use would be safe for up to 1000 amps of current (so it would be extremely dominant in drag racing, it could easily make your tires and wheels explode with as much power as you want), it’s also relatively light weight for energy stored (great for model airplanes and race quadcopters), cons are that it’s insanely dangerous if abused and even tiny batteries will spew flames to the roof with such intense heat that even dropping them in a pond they will continue to burn to the end, lifetime is also very short, often just 2 years. LiFePo4 (lithium iron phosphate) extremely stable, almost idiot proof, the least flammable of basically all lithium batteries, very long term life expectancy, cons it costs a lot and weighs a lot more per energy stored. Then non-lithium like lead acid: cheap, extremely poor energy density (the weight would be insane for any real range), but fairy safe even when abused quite badly. Ebike manufacturers don’t pick lithium ion for nothing, they picked one of the most suitable batteries for a reason. (I picked LiFePo4 because I’m worried with that big of a battery/bomb, my house could burn down, I already have enough of the flammable lipo batteries that it’s concentrating, haha, all those are in fireproof bags within metal ammo cans!)
@@jakegarrett8109 I use lipo, RC stick batterys. They are great, but only if you know what they are doing. Super cheap too, I made a 48V 10ah for $140 out of RC lipos and it performs great. I charge them all at the same time on a paraboard at 30A (5A ea), so the charge time is quick too. For me there is no downside to lipos, but I work with RCs for a living so am really used to them. Wouldnt recommend to a random person. Though I do think the danger is way overstated. Its really rare that anything happens, even to abused batteries.
@Living Soule... of cos, the toggle switch on the handle bar use to select front, back or both motors. Use one motor at a time and both when you are climbing hills.
it's a suspension fork. Most do not. But there are ways you can buy optional (not from their site.) 3rd party parts that can clamp around the outside suspension tubes and hold a rack. But don't expect it to hold 50pounds+.

I have an E bike. I noticed that all the E bikes That they advertise. They're always riding and good weather. Never the rain or snow or mud. Because I live in New York and we get all of that. I wanna know how it rides In the rain with the 2 batteries 1 in the back. Is the battery waterproof. Are the fenders too short for the wheel and water comes up in the back and a front of you. Can you show me a video with the bike riding in the rain.
I got me mine and boy! You can't get a better bike, Okay, the 1500 model looks like an armored truck and will possibly out-perform it but this itself is making guys green with envy looking at me cruise by..
I was really interested in this unit as I have a very similar bike, but with only 1 rear hub (48v)500w motor run by a 750w power supply, but my immediate issue was the run time.. I am getting nearly 100km of run time on my bike if I do not use the pedal on flat ground and around 150 if I also peddle, that allows me to to go out for a couple of days and camp/explore deep into the forest trails without any need to return for a charge.. I like the idea of the dual hubs, it's the amount of time it takes to drain the battery that kills it for me(unless the run time was wrong).. Cool bike though, looks well built and would like to know the hauling capability(max load weight) plus how much does this bike weigh..?? Most people do not understand that they will need a more robust bike hauler than many bike rack manufactures don't have something that can haul safely over 40-60lbs..
They don't wanna give away info like that wouldn't wanna look bad it isn't bad enough you can currently buy a used mid range motorcycle for the price of thus and don't have to worry about retarded and charging ranges.
Hi. What do you think about X-TREME ROCKY ROAD 48V ELECTRIC FAT TIRE MOUNTAIN BIKE? Can you please make a video about how to upgrade that model into a beast model? Or is it possible? I'm little concerned about the back suspension too. The placement of it. Can you explain more about it?
Hey everyone - how comfortable is the with the way your body sits holding the handlebars? I would be using it to cruise 4 miles on the road from my house to the beach and then to ride on the beach. Are you comfortable in that position? Does it feel more like sitting on a mountain bike a hybrid or a beach cruiser? How did it handle on the sand? How does it handle on the road for 5 miles? Much thanks!
We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!
Too bad grabber green is my favorite color. Now upgrade the speed controller and over volt it with an updated review for those of us with a death wish.
They just came out with an upgraded model with 52 volt batteries and dual 1000 watt motors ( peaking at 2300 watts total compared to 1500 watts on this model)
Looks , seems to be pretty amazing. MAJOR concern is how the front suspension fork can handle having a 500w motor pull it. Most 2wd bikes have a solid front fork for that reason. Can you tell me if you think the front fork can handle the motor over the long run?. I really love this bike. Also, what is customer service like with this company and are they a fly by night?. The price for what you get is really very reasonable. Any words of wisdom here?
They answer the phone after three rings and you get to talk to a real person. That alone helped me make my decision. They are very responsive. They did accidentally put my batteries in a box that was rated for 24 lbs. and put 25 lbs. on the label so the box got returned to them. They turned it around the next day so instead of getting it on Thursday, I will get it on Saturday or Monday. Not a huge deal and they responded immediately on that. I am in Maui, Hawaii and they were one of the only companies that would ship to me by air for two-day shipping. They went half on the shipping for me. And they also threw in a front basket along with the other great free stuff they give with each bike.
You would largely want a Mid-drive electric bicycle. These use the rear cassette's as a drive system, and give a push to your pedal stroke. Which in tern give better torque. Hub motors are a balance of Speed and mid torque. but low torque their very poor unless you slam over couple 1000watt+ motor direct drive on it, but still it'd struggle on steep stuff. Mid-drives are purely torque driven, so they have best hill climbing performance, and since they work on your cassette. The higher cassette you have. the better torque you'll gain in interest to the mid-drive motor.
he didn't use any. It's a stick view camera. and a side stick out mounted on the frame of the bike. or hanging. If you look closely at 4:00+ at his shadow, you can see the pole coming from his shadow. Most modern camera's now have ability to invisible the pole stick to look like it's flying.
Ok, a good review to bring unknown, or less known bikes to us. However, a better more detailed look at the components, would be nice (What tires & do they have puncture protection?). In addition, you can find those components on other rough & tumble ebikes. Like the Veego 750, for one, at about $2,200_ not dual suspension, or dual battery, and a step thru. Also take a look at the EVELO Dual Suspension ebike, w/a mid-drive motor. Thanks!

Also this setup is great for home power outages.
just bought the 1000 wt. The price now is 3,895. It's still a great buy and there are some upgrades since you did this video like Torque sensor etc.
$3100, 42 kg weight. Awesome. Will keep the brand monarch in my mind from now on!

Amazon has a gazillion of them, but I’d go with Thule or a few others, not something to save a little money on. Still, shouldn’t be much more than a hundred bucks, depending on weight etc. These ain’t That heavy, and I’ve had a trialed since 15 years old👍🏼

I came back to this. A nice looking bike with lots of power.
just a quick note: if you had the materials to do this you could actually add a 3rd battery to the top tube, it would have to be a hailong or shark battery but tbh it doesnt matter what kind of battery it is as long as it helps drive the bike

There are differences with electric bikes in the Netherlands. Is saw you started at the trafficlights without using the pedals and also saw it in other parts of your biking trail. In the Netherlands I think we would call it a moped with an extra use of pedals. This is the same for standard and fast bikes.
Thank you for making that video that was really good!!
BTW, my 2023 Super Monarch Crown has TORQUE sensing pedal assist.
So, you're not really using this as a bike but rather a motorcycle shaped like a fat tire cruiser. This is great for many people. Looks like fun.
This bikes climb serious hills. Read the review on their website about the UberDelivery guy in San Frab=nsico. ecells.com
32 mph top speed good and unlikely to outgrow.
can that speed be reached by throttle alone or does it require pedal assist?

1000w ebike convertion kit is cheaper. I paid bike store to put everything together
300 dolar maxim , who pay 3000$
@@jakegarrett8109 we should research in efficient battery same like the tesla battery with at least 40 miles range

Is there a way to turn off the front motor, and if so does that increase the range of the battery?

I was really interested in this unit as I have a very similar bike, but with only 1 rear hub (48v)500w motor run by a 750w power supply, but my immediate issue was the run time.. I am getting nearly 100km of run time on my bike if I do not use the pedal on flat ground and around 150 if I also peddle, that allows me to to go out for a couple of days and camp/explore deep into the forest trails without any need to return for a charge.. I like the idea of the dual hubs, it's the amount of time it takes to drain the battery that kills it for me(unless the run time was wrong)..

They turned it around the next day so instead of getting it on Thursday, I will get it on Saturday or Monday. Not a huge deal and they responded immediately on that.

Yeah but how is it on hills? I'm pushing 265lbs and I live on a hill. Can it take me up hills?
You would largely want a Mid-drive electric bicycle. These use the rear cassette's as a drive system, and give a push to your pedal stroke. Which in tern give better torque. Hub motors are a balance of Speed and mid torque. but low torque their very poor unless you slam over couple 1000watt+ motor direct drive on it, but still it'd struggle on steep stuff. Mid-drives are purely torque driven, so they have best hill climbing performance, and since they work on your cassette. The higher cassette you have. the better torque you'll gain in interest to the mid-drive motor.
Depends on how steep the hill and if you have momentum or not.
