AFC Champions - Buffalo Bills 1991 Video Yearbook

  • The 1990 Buffalo Bills lost Super Bowl XXV by a single point. In 1991, they started a singular quest of returning to the Super Bowl. The Bills' video yearbook follows the AFC champion on that journey from the first day of training camp to the post-game locker room of Super Bowl XXVI.
    The Bills led the NFL with the #1 ranked offense. Jim Kelly was the AFC's highest ranked passer. Thurman Thomas led the AFC with 1,407 rushing yards. Andre Reed caught 81 passes for over 1,100 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. Jim Ritcher led an offensive line that cleared the path for the league's top-ranked rushing offense. All four were voted to the Pro Bowl, joining Cornelius Bennett, Darryl Talley and Steve Tasker, who represent Buffalo's defensive Pro Bowl selections.
    In 1991, the Bills had the AFC's best record while earning their fourth straight division title. It was a season of unfinished business until playoff victories over Kansas City and Denver returned Buffalo to the Super Bowl.

    These Bill teams from 1990-1993 were great teams despite the Super Bowl losses and I'm a Niners fan. I got mad respect for the Bills compared to Cowboys lol.

      Without a doubt, the Bills were the most respected team in the NFL in the 90's but after '99, Bills fans began turning to different teams because the Bills sucked or they can't win a Super Bowl. I've been a Bills fan since I was born and I know to always BILLieve in a comeback year. #GoBills

      It's too bad they didn't get one of those .. definitely and amazing feat to win the AFC 4 times in a row... I think the team had a little mental letdown once they got there because losing so many times made them feel like here we go again... I remember the one Super Bowl vs Dallas I thought they were gonna get it... But then everything fell apart in the second half... They were still a solid team though and did something that might not ever be done again... 4 straight AFC titles...

    lol I'm glad I have no memory of this game. I was barely 2 years old in January 1991. my uncle had just got a brand new big screen TV (which he had for the next 17 years) and we were all watching the superbowl at his house. when Scott missed the kick, I was told everybody was just sitting there open mouthed, not saying a word. Then my uncle either started crying, or swearing like a sailor. Not sure how my grandpa reacted because he was a huge Bills fan too. I guess it was just shocking because they had a blowout game to get into the superbowl. I was too little to really remember their superbowl days but that's probably a good thing, and a disappointing thing. I sort of remember 1993 when we had a big party at my grandparents house, but of course the Bills got pounded during that game. And only a little bit from 1994. if only they could do it again and win one before we die! Even though they lost all 4, it was still fun when they were in it. And yeah, I agree, most NE fans are bandwagon because they didn't start to like them until Brady came along. Not saying ALL of them are bandwagon, but most are.

    Say what you want about the 90's Bills, but there will NEVER be another team like this. The current Seahawks team might even make their third straight SB trip but it's doubtful, all in all you will never see a team make four straight ever again.

    The Bills didn't suck, the front office dropped the ball. During the Super Bowl run they didn't try to improve the defense. The only stalwarts were Bruce Smith and Cornelius Bennett. Mark Kelso couldn't chase down a rock and the interior of the line was porous. I am sure Mark Kelso new the calls,but if you can't from here to there, it doesn't mean much. Marv Levy got them there,but the fact that it couldn't get over the hump after four straight tries should be telling enough. Beebe caught Lett,but it didn't catch much else, at least not as frequently as he should have. You'd think with 4.2 speed,you'd be able to get open and be more of an asset. Why'd they get rid of Lofton for Brooks again? Thurman Thomas quit after he fumble the ball in fourth Super Bowl. Wait,oh, I am sorry, he had "leg cramps." All that aside, the Bills didn't suck, they were a great team. No one in the history of the NFL has been to four straight Super Bowls.

    Matt Millen was available, and so was Jason Buck. With Bruce Smith's knee situation, they could've put him on IR, and bring in Millen and Buck; that would've made a difference for the Bills defense, and they would have won the Super Bowl.
    That bringing in of Matt Daluiso was screwy; let Norwood do all the kicking, or the punter(Mohr) could do kickoffs.

    Rick Reilly once said that he believed that the Bills were the beneficiaries of very weak competition. At the time I bristled at the comment and a being die hard fan, I was tempted to burn him effigy. With the exception of Marino who else was there in the AFC East. Ken O'Brien?!!..... The Bills where exceptionally talented at the skill positions and on a defense they had the likes of Bruce Smith and the "Biscuit", Cornelius Bennett. Their Achilles heel was up front both offensively and defensively. This weakness was punctuated by having "Gazoo", Mark Kelso, at free safety who couldn't run down a snail. Let's face it Marv Levy although a great administrator was not a great strategist. However, lack of competition, weak strategy or the Flintstones, NFL history has not snub it's nose at four straight Super Bowl appearances and neither should anyone else.

    • @Esoteric456
      @Esoteric456 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph F I agree with you, I hope that came across. I was trying to add some reality to the conversation instead of chalking it up to they were terrible or they were lucky. I suppose there is no other alternative, but people like to romanticize why they didn't win, particularly the players and coaches. The reason they didn't win, I believe, is part due to the reasons I stated in the previous post. A another thing is that the bills never really tried to improve their team during those off seasons. Bill Brooks for James Lofton? By the time Bryce Paup, Jim Jeffcoat and others came on board Jim Kelly was not the same player.

    • @rjhyden
      @rjhyden 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph F Well . it was lucky for the Cowboys they made it. LMAO

    • @Esoteric456
      @Esoteric456 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand by my comments. People like to romanticize those years and perhaps doing that is better then the alternative. I was a huge Jim Kelly fan and there was something special about that team. The reason they lost wasn't cosmological, they lost because they lack certain things, plain and simple. By they way I think the dolphins and the chiefs, teams we played in the AFC championships, would have shared the same fate.

    • @orphy6869
      @orphy6869 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Esoteric456 With the way they lift Marino, Elway, Moon on a pedestal and shun Kelly you would think the Bills teams were second rate......only one team won more games in the Nineties and that was the 49'ers, The Bills regularly beat the Cowboys and the Giants and the Redskins in the regular season, They put more players in the HOF than those teams and they were better than all of those teams...just not on superBowl sundays

    Does the N.F.L have enough money??? That was a rhetorical question because the answer is obvious, of course they do!!! The seemingly odd question is a segway to my point which is they are all about money and little about the enjoyment of fans. Bills fans and non-bills fans a like have enjoyed videos posting like the ones above so they can briefly rekindle the warm embrace of yesteryear. Unfortunately, like buzzards waiting for a cadaver to ripen, the N.F.L swoops down with their copyrights and desecrates our memories. Just to be clear, by making this point, I am suggestion that copyrights should done away with. They are important. However, the N.FL. is multi-billion dollar industry and have not suffered monetarily one iota, even with the heinous conduct of their players. I say if individuals are posting videos like these for their own and others pleasure and not selling for profit, then Rog and is pals in the league office should turn a blind eye.
