    I have had two Citizen eco-drive Promaster dive watches. My first has been my daily wear watch for more than 10 years and still keeps perfect time without ever needing a battery. For the record, in spite of people's concerns that the bezel or crystal is easily scratched or that the no decompression tables on the strap will wear off I can assure you that none of that has happened. These are the best watches I have found for reliability and appearance overall.

    This model in black was my fifth Eco-Drive. One of mine (14 years old) has recently been repaired/serviced, not because it wore out from use, but because it suffered a long drop that broke a couple of mechanical parts. It's back from the service center for another 15 years of flawless service.

    Great review, especially opening the back, so we can see the "guts",, 👍,, I'm looking for a replacement for my Casio Duro, since I changed the battery, and saw what a puny little movement was powering such a big supposedly tough watch,, after seeing your presentation, I think I'll get one of these,, thank you very much.. 👍👌

      Watch Time LA just received the watch today. They’ve up their packaging of this watch. I received it in a large box and when I opened it the watch was inside a dive “tank” case. Really cool and unique case.

      Este reloj es una porquería y el costo es grande tiene un circuiteria de precio economico, la verdad se fabrica en cantidad con pocos insumos no es como un reloj automático. Sin embargo es costoso, un hurto o robo a la razón. Este reloj no vale mas de 50 U$S This clock is a mess and the cost is great has a circuitry of economic price, the truth is manufactured in quantity with few inputs is not like an automatic watch. However, it is expensive, a theft to reason. This watch is not worth more than 50 US $

    Sir your video is one of the best youtube watch reviews that I have seen! Honestly at first I did not expect to watch the whole video, but the way you introduce people about brief history of quartz and how you feel it caught my attention and I enjoyed every minutes of it. Loved that you shared your experience from the unboxing to back opening and micro zoomed shots. Now I am surely going to get this watch sooner or later. Cheers

    Thanks for the review. I really like this watch. I saw on a dive watch review the other day that the "serrations" are functional and work like a spring to allow the watch strap to be stretched snugly over a wet suit. As the wet suit compresses at depth, the strap stays snug. A flat strap would end up loose. They show up on non-dive watches as well (my Casio Dual Sensor for example) probably cosmetic but, I have to believe they relieve bending stresses a little.

    Good review, I particularly like that you zoom into the finest details. There are very few videos on changing the battery on these EcoDrive. They are rechargeable Li Titanium model MT621 and very uncommon, they run about $20 each. However, its changed so rarely [ I've only done it once in 15 years] but no one shows how to do it correctly, I had to learn the hard way reading the technical manual without a video.

    I have this watch. I appreciate your detailed review. Still, I don't think the microscopic "imperfections" really matter due to the price of the watch. To my eye, it looks great, especially for the price. And I totally agree . . . why go for a high priced watch when this one has so much to offer. I do wish, however, it had a sapphire crystal.

    Excellent review, man. Just ordered this watch and I must say, If I had seen this review before making the order, I most likely would not of bought it. It's good looking and nicely finished, but the internals is rather cheap looking. Some of these watch companies I've noticed are putting batteries in watches and renaming the batteries, as Capacitors. Tech.... jargon, solar powered light and so on. It's no wonder they state in big writing on the back casing:" DO NOT OPEN". I'm just glad my purchase wasn't expensive.

    Thanks for the review. I just changed my mind from the Orient Ray 2 or Mako to the Citizen since they seem to work with zero fuss once the battery is charged, and they keep perfect time. My other 2 citizens are excellent, but I noticed the mineral crystals on Citizens are 'soft mineral' and mine scratched easily and pretty badly. The Citizen support center said it was $100 to put a new mineral crystal in. My other Citizen is the Ip-TI model that has sapphire crystal...wonderful watch.

    hi.. enjoyed the video.. I don't know why that rumor keeps going around about capacitors.. I think the Seiko Kinetic used to use capacitors, but they had problems switched to batteries i believe. Here in this watch and all Citizen eco-drive watches are high end Lithium rechargeable batteries. In this case the Panasonic MT621, an is an expensive $15 battery.
    I think Citizen purposely in their literature about Eco-Drive calls the battery another name for a battery, as you said in the video, an Energy Cell because consumers might think they have to change a battery.
    Also, they say you never have to replace the battery because these batteries have been lasting 15 - 20 to 25 years! So the watch at that point wouldn't be serviceable i.e. the movement, and in 25 yrs that movement might not be available.. my 2005 Citizen military field watch is working perfectly still in 2020 with no servicing except putting it in window sunlight about 5 hours every few weeks or month..

    Although I do like the Rolex Mariner in green and the Tag Heuer's; they don't seem worth the money. Especially since I beat the crap out of my watches.

    Great review, including the inside movement. Just recently bought this watch. This watch is wel made. I just noticed one thing with mine rotary bezel. After every click its stop 1mm more to the left. So the minute mark is little bit off. I can slightly move the bezel counterclockwise to align the minute mark. The backplay is not loosely. I can feel the spring. Is this normal?. Am i having a faulty watch?. How about yours?
    I think its using spring and not ball bearing.

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With Most of these bezels, there is a spring that locked them in place as they turn. It sounds unusual that yours would be off by 1 mm more each time it is turned. This does not sound like normal behavior. I have to be honest, I rarely use the bezels on my watches other than for demonstration on video. If you bought the watch from Amazon or another large retailer, you might want to exchange it for another and see if you have the same behavior. If you don't plan on using the bezel often, or at all as in my case, perhaps you might just accept it and enjoy the watch. Thank you for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • @work-in-progress.

    Excellent video. Thank you, sir. I can be indecisive & as we know, there's a plethora of all types & options out there. I already have some existing store credit on Amazon (same for Macy's too). If I go for this Citizen, it'll be the nicest AND most expensive one for me yet. Price is a TREMENDOUS factor right now & based on your presentation - combined with information that I've also learned from 'nutnfancy', Jody ['Just one more watch'], etc.....this'll probably be the one. I was considering a budget automatic [they actually cost less too...UP FRONT] BUT the eventual maintenance costs seem to far exceed the benefits. Tough choice, since the Seiko 5, model SNK807 AND the Orient Ray 2 are quite nice ! VERY close call w/the Orient.
    I now own some pieces by Casio {analog & digital - 1 G-shock}, Timex & a Lorus (which Seiko owns). My favorite, which is likely worth the most money is a pretty nice dive-style Casio {which they don't produce anymore}. Hmm, maybe it'll increase in value - www.amazon.com/Casio-AMW320R-7EV-Ana-Digi-Stainless-Rubber/dp/B00134QLDC . Thanks again for your informative video. What do you think about our beloved Citizen VS the Orient? If those newer style, hefty Victorinox pieces were solar powered, well.....I'd be more confused ; )

    Nice review, thank you for posting that.
    I have got today my blue BN0151, it's as I was expected.
    Lume is amazing - BGW-9 for sure - while the band is OK but not supergreat. I like more the band from the CASIO diver MDV which is smoother and more flexible although that watch is 3-4 times cheaper.
    If you do a sapphire swap, what's the procedure ? Just pulled the crown completely , is it any lever you have to press in order to have the crown out like you do with the automatics.
    Glass size is 30.8mm so a 31mm sapphire would probably work.

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your kind words. Every watch maker has a different method for removing a crown. Check out my video on removing a watch movement and that should get you started. You may also need a crystal press for properly removing and installing the crystals. This is a good starter one. amzn.to/2CJdVSL but you may need other size bits. Good luck.

    I'm of the opinion, a quality watch is just that.. Mechanical or quartz. I don't go for mechanical only snobbery ☺️
    I'm fact, I came to this video as I'm thinking about buying this watch right now.. It looks excellent.

    i am very interested in buying this watch. I just wish you can attempt to help in one question:
    On amazon it says its 19mm. and even in the questions sections you receive answers that say its 19mm, 20mm & 21mm.
    What exactly are they measuring? how can one question have so many answers. I ask this because I have a ton of 20mm nato straps and I am only going to buy this watch if it is infact 20mm.
    What am i missing?
    I only ask the obvious because Im an international buyer and will get it from amazon and i want to avoid sending it back.
    thanks

      They are measuring the space between the lugs where the band goes. Because a NATO strap will give a bit, I think it would fit in place of a 19MM strap , but may show a barley noticeable bulge at each end. Hoe this helps. amzn.to/2Kc99lp

    Hi Tony I really like your videos !! I wanted to ask you if a movement from a 40mm to another 40mm would the dial face fit or are the dials all made different? Thanks

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with moving movements is not only the size of the case, the height of the movement with the hands can be even more important. The only way to actually tell, is remove both movements and measure the total height, the width of the dial and complete movement,. Then a test fit if its real close.

    I have a question. If the seconds hand on the watch is skipping seconds, what does that mean?
    P.S. , I just got the watch.

    • @OverdrivePacing
      @OverdrivePacing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It means that the battery is totaly uncharged .You should expose it to bright light asap ( preferably outdoors in direct sunlight) for many hours ( check the manual for how many exactly depending on the light source) .

    I get so tired of the TH-cam watch community criticizing quartz. Most of my watches are automatic, so what. People should just buy what they like. As for the TH-cam community, small. Very small in comparison. Who died and put them in charge? They criticize quartz, and yet they buy it when it is a Seiko quartz.

    Este es un reloj recaro y en realidad debería ser muy barato tiene un cristal mineral y no de safiro, tiene un microcircuito, mecanismo a cuarzo que cualquier reloj un casio comun lo tiene, o uno económico lo posee, no sirve para hacer buceo, tiene una caja linda con mecanismo re barato, no vale mas de 50 U$S. This is a clock recaro and in reality it should be very cheap it has a mineral crystal and not sapphire, it has a microcircuit, a quartz mechanism that any watch a common casio has it, or an economic one owns it, it does not serve to do diving, it has a nice box with cheap re mechanism, is not worth more than 50 US $

      Entiendo tu opinión sobre este reloj. Pero este es el reloj que llevo cuando el clima es muy malo. Todavía pienso que el valor es bueno. Mejor valor que Rolex por $ 10,000.00 US.

    I have both quartz and mechanical pieces in my collection. Frankly, I could care less what the people on TH-cam who criticize quartz. The Seikophiles love watches with poor QC. Invicta buyers think think the brand is better than Rolex, and let's not forget those guys who love their cheap Chinese junk. LMAO!

      This is an ISO Rated Dive Watch, Casios are not. Also this is a Solar Powered Quartz that is on the market for almost 20 years from Citizen and it's absolutely reliable. I know people that own Eco Drives for more than 10 years and never had to change the battery.
      Last but not least the strap on this watch is far more better quality than the ones on the Casio MDV106 models and similar ones.
      Similar quality watches from Casio will cost you just as much as this one. You need to buy an Edifice or G-Shock the get a watch that you can compare to this one

    Este reloj es una porquería y el costo es grande tiene un circuiteria de precio economico, la verdad se fabrica en cantidad con pocos insumos no es como un reloj automático. Sin embargo es costoso, un hurto a la razón. Este reloj no vale mas de 50 U$S This clock is a mess and the cost is great has a circuitry of economic price, the truth is manufactured in quantity with few inputs is not like an automatic watch. However, it is expensive, a theft to reason. This watch is not worth more than 50 US $

      I guess we can disagree. This is much better quality than most quarts watches. I think the price point is justified in this case. Thanks for checking out the video.
