  • Soft Delicate and ever so well-behaved The beautiful “ Vanessa Bell” from @david_austin_roses This rose is absolutely perfect for growing in a small space pot or container reliably reaching 3 1/2 feet tall and around 2 1/2 feet across always one of the first roses in bloom here in the garden

    I bought this one this year as a potted own root from DA US. She’s absolutely beautiful and in my opinion often overlooked for some odd reason, typically the last to sell out. I don’t regret getting it at all and it’s one of my favorites.

    I love Vanessa Bell so much, I have two, one in a container & the other’s in my devils strip garden. It’s funny how different our roses look, yours has much more color where as mine are a much paler yellow and there is absolutely no shading of pale pink/apricot on mine, but I think this has to do with my zone/geographical location. I’m in 8b/9 (depends on who you ask) in Austin, TX. I very much enjoy your videos and I fully blame some of my plant purchasing on you! Thank you for your time & effort in making these videos and your garden is absolutely stunning and it’s my garden goals! With much respect & admiration from Texas. ☺️🌸🫖

      It's not your geographical location. I am in 5B, my Vanessa Bell has exact the same color as you described, much paler yellow with no shading of pink/apricot at all. My soil is a bit alkaline.

    This is one of my favorite roses! I grow it on my balcony in a giant container among other flowers. It is in its second season and is the first rose to bloom. It is very healthy so far and hasn’t shown any black spots yet. The fragrance is mind blowing in my opinion. The only problem is that in the second wave in July on sunny days the blooms are getting burned bevor opening. Maybe to much afternoon sun in the hight of the balcony or not enough water because of the other plants?

    It looks like a beautiful rose Ben. It isn’t one that I have but I would be very tempted if I had more room. It looks like the colouring is very similar to Nye Bevan. I bought Nye Bevan last year and he had a fabulous first season.

      It can look very similar but the colour of this is much more of a pastel yellow Nye Bevan for me has coppery brassy undertones this is much softer and has many more petals

    Hello Ben. Is your Vanessa Bell an own root? Mine is grafted but could one encourage it to become own rooted from the graft?

    Hello. Thank you for your videos, I have learned a lot from them. I bought Vanessa Bell but it doesn't look much like it and I'm thinking they made a mistake with the shipment. The flowers color match but the buds do not have the pink tint described. Also have a green eye I haven’t seen in the photos.

      If you are concerned raise the matter with DA I’m sure it can be worked out, bare in mind it can take 2/3 years for a newly planted rose to show all its characteristics

    Could I ask your experience between Vanessa Bell and The Lady Gardener in terms of health, fragrance, flowering and also how long the flower stays on the bush
    So many thanks for your videos and answers :)) 🌹

      They are very very different, TLG will flower all summer it’s very fragrant, the blooms are large and held in very strong stems and very healthy As to how long the blooms last on the bush I get office and awful lot and I’m sorry it is not possible to give you a definitive answer flower life always depends on the heat and humidity and how quickly the plant is pollinated

    Between this Vanessa Bell and Roald Dahl, which do you recommend? I will be growing it in a pot.

      Although Vanessa is beautiful, Roald Dahl is a much much harder working rose It will flower for months on end.

    How long does the flower last?

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately there is no way of really answering that question for you how long a flower opens for and lasts on a plant is affected by far too many factors differences what’s the weather like? Is it raining? Is it warm if it’s warm? How many pollinators and how many other flowers are in bloom at the same time? If you live somewhere where there isn’t very much for pollinator to forage a bloom will often be pollinated incredibly quickly especially with a rose like this one that has a loose and open form for the flower

      @@the_gardenerben a average value would be enough because I have roses that last like 4 days and roses that last 2 or more weeks and I try to select the healthiest and long lasting ones.
