I don’t understand everyone’s issue with office style vs traveler style gmt. I travel A LOT for work and own an office style gmt. I treat the GMT hand as my travel time marker and main hours hand stays at home time. So anytime I land in a new time zone I simply change the GMT hand for the local time no biggie 🤷♂️
Totally agree, it s really carving out a difference to create perceived value. Of course the engineering is different but in utility very little effort.
Man.... your video comments are professional, and you do know how to bridge the knowledge gap for consumers to make good purchase decisions. Keep up the great job, and hope your views and subscribers could increase more to reflect your sound knowledge on watches and your presentation quality.
The inner 24-hr track makes the dial look too busy and is redundant with the 24-hr track on the bezel. Other than that I agree this is a winner at sub-$500.
I agree the 24 hr track on the dial makes the dial too busy. But it is not redundant with the 24 hr track on the bezel. The bezel covers 24 hours for the GMT hand whereas the secondary dial track covers the pm times from 12 to 24 hr.
I have the regular version of the watch and man how versatile it is!. Truly a GADA watch. I personally see it as a one watch collection if not for the movement inside, as the accuracy tolerances is very high. To be honest with the removal of the day indicator and if the bracelet wasn’t an improvement from the old one, I see it hard to worth 400$
Just bought one in SS (£348) and I'm wearing it instead of my BB58. It is really attractive. Coming in at +4 to +8, so no complaints. A handsome piece, I have to say. I might have gone for the white dial (Japanese market only), but the black dial really works. Push pins a bit of a hassle, but it's a couple of minutes to sort.
I've tried both the SBSC009 (JDM White Dial) and the SBSC011 (JDM Black Dial). Personally I went with the SBSC011 as it suites me more. Since I was getting the Black Dial, instead of the SSK023 (non JDM Black Dial), I went to search for the rarer JDM version to put the cherry on top with my pick. This is my first watch in watch collecting and definitely will not be the last! Eyes on Grand Seiko's SLGA009 next when I drop by Ginza early next year :D
We live in Asia about 3-6 months a year. I keep my GMT on their time and my watch set on my time wherever we are at the time. That way, we always know what time it is for calling friends and family. I really don’t use it for “home time” ever. I really like the stainless steel version. I might add a Seiko Jubilee style bracelet to see what it looks like.
I like that stainless steel one and it looks like (hopefully) Seiko will stop rebranding and rising prices on the watches like Alpinist and continue to get watch people great timepieces for good price.
Couldn't help myself already have the stainless version ordered for January's delivery. Although i often wear my black/blue SSK version and really dont need this...... but.... damn it, didnt think i was a complete Seikopath but apparently i am 😢
The most important advantage of a traveller / true GMT was left out of the explanation. You just jump the hour hand in one hour increments when you land at a new destination. Not only do you not have to re-set the GMT hand, you don't have to re-set the minute or second hand. If you travel a lot, the jumping hour hand is arguably more useful than the GMT hand itself. And it's no longer true that true GMT movements are only found in expensive watches. The Miyota 9075 , which came out just over a year ago, is a true GMT movement. You can find it in some Bulovas and in some micro brand watches for $500.
I’ve always loved seiko but I feel like their R&D department just fail to ask any actual watch wearer/collector what they could improve. Literally two things. Add a solid bracelet with screw pins.. the pin and collar system is so annoying to adjust and looks cheap. Add a screw down crown. I mean cmon, this is like the most basic function most people want in a watch. I don’t care if you achieve 500meters with push/pull. It just feels and looks cheap.
A ‘true’ gmt is a piece of marketing hyperbole. Introduced only in the 1980’s, it sounds more elegant than what it actually is - a ‘passenger’ gmt. An ‘office’ gmt is more aptly a ‘traditional’ gmt, or ‘classic.’ Pilots and aircrew actually use gmt as.. gmt. It has real world use and application. A true/traveller/pilot/passenger gmt is a passenger gmt. It is for passengers who do not use gmt, but want an easy way to set their watches to local destination time. Great for a vacationer, or business passenger.
430 for hardlex, terrible accuracy and no screw down crown? Absolute deal breaker. It's such a shame as Seiko once stood for quality and value for money... Not any more.
When you come in around $430, you begin to expect on the fly adjustment, fully solid hardware, screw links, AR sapphire and proper QC, but this is Seiko.
British micro brand Marlin mk 4 divers with double domed sapphire Seiko automatic movement, screw down,5 colours, 100 of each colour, the blue being particularly nice,a few left, you’re welcome.C’mon Seiko what’s with the hardlex?.
It's an upgraded SRPG27, so I'll pass on this one... I have also an SSK003, so why bother. Why hardlex and not sapphire crystal on this new GMT is beyond comprehension.
shit it is 10 o'clock in New York, let me spend 5 minutes fumbling with my watch to figure out what time it is in California... I mean the only other option is to add 5 carry the 7 divide by 4 multiply by the square root of how dumb are you that you can't add or subtract one number
I promised myself that if I get a gmt, I'll buy at least a Tudor. Not anymore! Aiming for the SBSC009 which will be the white dial.
The white is awesome!

I have an office style as well. I am experimenting with just keeping UTC on the GMT hand and changing the main to local

Thanks I really appreciate the kind words.

you had way longer exposure than the watch itself! i came here because it said watch review. i came for the watch.
Agree with a lot of people in the comments. A Glycine combat sub GMT or non GMT is a good option for similar if not cheaper price.
I own a Rolex Explorer 2 GMT and a Grand Seiko GMT, this recommended gmt will be my third.

I picked up the SEIKO 5 SBSC009 Field Sports GMT JDM white dial,
I own the SSK003 GMT watch . I’m tempted to get the white dial field watch .
I like that stainless steel one and it looks like (hopefully) Seiko will stop rebranding and rising prices on the watches like Alpinist and continue to get watch people great timepieces for good price.
I think they learned their lesson when they killed the SKX and Citizen took over selling the NY0040 under $200
Couldn't help myself already have the stainless version ordered for January's delivery. Although i often wear my black/blue SSK version and really dont need this...... but.... damn it, didnt think i was a complete Seikopath but apparently i am 😢
Yep it’s definitely different enough from the SSK to justify adding it to your collection

I prefer a caller GMT because I just use it to track 24 hour local time.
Seiko knocks it out of the park again
Has the white dial been released in Japan?
I’ve seen them offered for sale on eBay with late January delivery.
More nice looking seikos with no sapphire..
hopefully the existing sapphire crystal for SRPG is compatible to it.
How is the SSK023 different from the SBSC011?
Same, the sbsc is the JDM version
Saving up now..

That looks awesome 🌟

Here until 1 Million Views, By the way it kinda looks like the Explorer II Rolex GMT and Tudor
1 million views would be awesome!!
I wish they offered a sunburst blue dial. The new blue alpinist gmt is way overpriced.
They need more watches for skinny wrists. 13mm deep are too thick. 48mm lug to lug is nomos territory 😂
If u don like the nato, try the MN strap
Why people like the white dial more? i dont understand
Why do some men prefer blondes? I don't understand either... ;-)
It's unjustifiably thick like a lot of Seiko's. 12.5mm should be plenty for an auto, date, Gmt watch.
430 for hardlex, terrible accuracy and no screw down crown? Absolute deal breaker.
It's such a shame as Seiko once stood for quality and value for money... Not any more.
Facts.
When you come in around $430, you begin to expect on the fly adjustment, fully solid hardware, screw links, AR sapphire and proper QC, but this is Seiko.
Where is the watch for $430 that has those features?
Alternatives are appreciated
@@boldaslion281, not really hard, honestly. One whole year ago Gruppo Gamma have launched the Venturo 3 GMT. Look it up.
San Martin and Cronos.
British micro brand Marlin mk 4 divers with double domed sapphire Seiko automatic movement, screw down,5 colours, 100 of each colour, the blue being particularly nice,a few left, you’re welcome.C’mon Seiko what’s with the hardlex?.
Can't wait for the San Martin version - thinner, cheaper and with sapphire crystal 😂
I will be getting the Pagani version, it will still be better than the Seiko😂
They really should have/could have done the screw down crown.
It's an upgraded SRPG27, so I'll pass on this one... I have also an SSK003, so why bother. Why hardlex and not sapphire crystal on this new GMT is beyond comprehension.
BTW, I have 20+ mechanical seikos and they are all within +- 5 sec.
Seiko Avenger Explorer II 😅
Another 24 hour worthless bezel on a 12 hour movement. Why????????????????????????????
This guy looks like he has a WatchTower in his pocket.
Too thick for GMT, also no sapphire...I'll pass.
What a failure of original design. I would much rather want to see a GMT version of the SRPE series with a 24h chapter ring.
You review a watch you NEVER held or dont even have,,.,,,lol....another watch troll
GMT is top 3 most useless complications - learn how to do math
shit it is 10 o'clock in New York, let me spend 5 minutes fumbling with my watch to figure out what time it is in California... I mean the only other option is to add 5 carry the 7 divide by 4 multiply by the square root of how dumb are you that you can't add or subtract one number
So it’s not a true gmt 😂 when it’s coming out to us
It’s just an Explorer 2 rip off.
Hardlex??? No screw crown?? Man seiko are still a bunch of overpriced clowns...for almost 500$?? So many better options. Seiko is terrible.
Many options out there with far better specs at this price and lower even.
