    BIG thank you! This helped me to configure VLANs at home with Synology SRM 1.3 Router, and pass down VLAN to some TP Link managed switches. For anyone using TP link, you have to go to "802.1Q PVID Setting and also set the VLAN for each port, then it will work after following this guy's instructions for tagged/untagged.

    Configuring Firewall rules and testing them under SRM 1.3, will definitely be a good follow-up video to this. I found that Enabling Network Isolation makes restricting VLAN to VLAN traffic is straight forward but most networks will require more configuration than just that.

    I need to get my hands on one of these Synology routers to see what they're all about! Loved the video, Avi!

      I have both the 2600 and the 6600 and love them. After using these, when I go back to my old Asus router, it feels rather claustrophobic. When you are in learning mode, the Synology routers provide a much friendlier environment.

    I think you got it right, its too little too late at least for me. moved to ubiquiti a long time ago.

    Awesome video for a networking novice like myself to understand how to configure my newly upgraded rt2600ac in segregating my home network. I am not sure what you did on the 13:20 mark; I assume that you enabled port 1 that connects to the router to act as the channel for passing all the VLAN's via this single physical Ethernet connection, so kindly confirm. I am looking forward to the firewall rules video for configuring traffic among VLAN's

    Thanks for this explanation! I would be very interested in how to setup firewall, e.g. to isolate the IOT, so that they can oly reach some servers.

    What about that firewall follow-up video ?
    It's been 11 months ago since you posted this video.
    Would be nice if you could still make that video.

    This is great. Thank you! I am anxiously awaiting the firewall video. Is this going to come out soon? Please. :)

    I just checked and my SRM version is showing up-to-date with 1.2.5-8227 Update 11. My interface doesn't look like yours. For me, there is no Network tab under Local Network in the Network Center :(

    Can VLAN segmentation groups be assigned to their own Wi-Fi networks? Upgrading from the 2600 to the 6600 if that matters at all, etc.

    I'm curious...do you prefer/recommend unifi over synology or vice versa?

    • @TechMeOut5
      @TechMeOut5  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It highly depends on the use case and on the user. I use unifi as a personal preference, but i know some tech bloggers use Synology. It highly depends, no universal truth here

      @@TechMeOut5 Thanks for the reply. I currently use synology at home. I like the security and firewall features both routers share (e.g. the package IDS/IPS). Also use VLANs for work/home/IoT/guest network separation.
      I find synology's lack of firewall logging frustrating from a purely 'geeky' POV but also when it comes to diagnosing network problems. I've also been having problems with Synology's latest firmware and external USB storage making the OS unstable. These two points are tempting me over to the UDR.

    Vilan limit is becouse if you turn on VPN Plus Server and Threat Prevention CPu on Rt2600ac can't hanle more then 4 - 5 networks (VLAN's) - I tested it and my RT260ac had problems after work with 5 vlans and I run VPN Plus Server and Threat Prevention on that router

    • @TechMeOut5
      @TechMeOut5  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buddy, you have a mistake. First of all i haven't enabled threat prevention. Secondly, the vlan limit is programmatic, its a hard coded limit.

    • @tomaszmilos

      @@TechMeOut5 I see that on my device cpu had usage 62 - 96 % load when I created 5th vlan na after two days of work that router had chrash and reboot itself but at the time I use my RT2600ac on mesh network with MR2200ac works as mesh AP I will be test that again (actualy I off wifi on RT2600ac - I use unifi for WiFi)
      BTW Network isolation is for isolate vlan not isolate hosts on that vilan

      Hi. Again, you have a mistake. You should probably take a few minutes and go over the the technical documentation of srm 1.3

      @@TechMeOut5 Ok You right about software limit in SRM about vlans - I kou that from begining - but I use RT2600ac of 2 pr 3 years as my main router after my RT1900ac lost his ac adapter and I lern about hardware limits of my RT2600ac - that'sw why I tell You Wht Synology include Software limit of vilans on srm - I think thy are knew abaut hardware CPU limits of RT2600ac if you use Threat Prevention on that router I tell You that software is CPU hunger app if you connect many devices in your network

    you're basically using the switch as a hub

    • @TechMeOut5
      @TechMeOut5  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I'm not. Look up the difference between a switch and a hub.
