the ED thing is no joke. My husband followed the same route, said it "was just a part of growing older". Massive heart attack nearly killed him, the Widow Maker. If I hadn't been home...

17:23 SHORTNESS OF BREATH. Get it checked out, especially if you have no reason for it (no asthma, for instance).
It was Labor Day weekend 3 years ago (it's a holiday in the USA) and my husband had to work. Sunday evening he was puffing hard when he came up the stairs to the bedroom. Said he probably just was getting a chest cold. In the morning even small exertions left him out of breath but he still got ready for work (he drove a truck locally). He called me from work later to ask me to look up his symptoms. I told him that he needed to go to the urgent care clinic. He finally agreed and I went and picked him up.
At the clinic they first gave him an inhaler but were also doing blood tests and had an oxygen monitor and mask on him. He started apologizing to the doctor for "ruining their holiday" but the doc interrupted him to say that he wasn't wasting their time; that they needed him to get to the hospital NOW.
So we took him to the hospital ER and they met us there and whisked him into a room where they immediately started him on clot busting drugs like you use for a stroke victim.
The diagnosis? Bilateral pulmonary embolism (translation: blood clots in both lungs). This would have been lethal within a few hours as his oxygen saturation was down, and his heart was working harder and harder trying to pump blood to be oxygenated but the clots were blocking most of the flow, so he would have gone into heart failure as it wore itself out.
Now he gets to take blood thinners for life and wear compression socks, and listen to me say, "I told you that you were sick."

My friend donated blood before band practice. They always say “no strenuous activity after the donation”. He didn’t listen. Passed out on the field during warm up. Luckily someone was nearby so he didn’t hit his head.

This is the kind of crap that always bugs me. People acting like it’s the worst thing on earth to talk about medical issues with the opposite gender. It’s 2022, Google is free and I can educate myself as an assigned male at birth about female anatomy issues. Let’s normalize educating each other on gender issues.

I work in the medical field. PLEASE know which medications you take and how you take them! If a drug is too expensive, please let us know. We can work with your insurance company or switch to a covered drug. Likewise, if you're experiencing adverse effects from a medication, do not stop taking it without telling anyone! Call your doctor's office, we can switch you to something else. You don't have to suffer!

"Always tell a medical professional about your drug use" unless it's been years since your last use. My sis went in for surgery, the Dr asked her about prior drug use, and she told him she had used C a few years prior. He stopped her, "I didn't hear that and you didn't say that, because if I hear that, I can't prescribe you pain medications after your surgery".... Wtf

What's the minimum of years then? Surely anything doesn't stay in your body that long. Not even anaesthesia stuff, and that lasts a few months from mine and mother's experience. (Which I assumed was normal but apparently nobody else has that problem.)

My dad died of something like that, but he put up a fight for hours and hours before he finally slipped away.
pro tip, don't have a stroke when the 'dedicated stroke team' is off for the weekend.

Also having a allergy to onions and pork, I can't eat them, I can't eat dairy, it's like cyanide to my body, but people just without thinking add these ingredients to my food and I always have to take them out to avoid the reaction from it, IBS is also a horible physical illness that no one understands and it restricts your diet and what you can eat

I didn't know until I was getting stomach pain and nausea every morning which I thought was car/bussickness but apparently not, and only after cutting it out at Christmas after a decade of it gradually getting worse have I noticed an improvement.
Apparently I was when I was tiny as, then it stopped until I was about 15 and kicked in again.
Don't think I can arsed to take tablets just because I want to a bowl of cereal now.

I figured it out by myself years later but I kept getting stomach pains and the doctors couldn't find out why. They asked if I'd been eating and I said yes because I took it literally. I was eating, just not very much. Turns out I had OSFED.
