In my case I'd rather be made of information. Having an identity is important in connecting with others, being true to yourself, and making hard decisions about life. For us it's about mortality and (I assume) seeing the possibility of being more than human. For others it's gender. They're the same as us, making things complicated by changing the definition of humanity in a world that demands simplicity and hates change.

The worldbuilding you put into a explanation or setup to an example is better than some actual sci-fi. You imagination never ceases to amaze me: a civilization with over a trillion nations and hundreds of millions of wars, yet is still peaceful just to the sheer scale.

Doc Smith Skylark III (1930) has the hero chasing the remnants of the genocidal Fenachrone who are fleeing the galaxy. That series had faster than light travel (very early sci Fi) and the chase speed and distance was so great that after destroying the Fenachrone refugee ship, the deceleration and turn around was already into Andromeda so he decides to explore that in the next book.
Also quite tragic. In the process of getting your freedom to continue your quest for Higaara, you have to destroy them, and find out they are descendants of the same fleet you are.

As most of this channel is grounded in known or at least theoretical science I am curious which of the most popular science fiction movies/television series bothers Isaac the most. For example I have a very hard time watching Lost in Space. I am more okay with Star Wars because that is more of a fantasy set in space though and physics doesn't really play a role in creating the setting.

Contemplating this... and you mentioning making a statite on the far side of a star on the rim. If I had any of space to hide in I might instead pick one of the nearby dwarf galaxies and do somewhat the same thing. Perhaps one of the smaller less appealing ones. I'd have some resources and ability to move, yet still be quite isolated.

How do you keep hostile transmissions from destroying your true sanctuary? Couldn’t they use future hacking or espionage to sneak in a virus or digital forces or something?
I was rewatching the video on the kardashev scale just now, and when you were talking about a K3 civilization likely being impossible without FTL I thought about Dragons Egg by Robert L. Forward. What if, instead of a species that experienced time more slowly than humans and lived briefly relative to us, there was an alien species that evolved to live much longer and, as a byproduct, experienced time quickly relative to us. Like, they live for several thousand years, but their perception of that lifespan is the same as we perceive an average 80 year life. In that case, while the speed of light would be the same to them, relatively, it would SEEM much faster. In a situation like that, would a K3 civilization be more viable, since, as they perceive it, they wouldn’t be waiting nearly as long for travel or communication? Also, is it plausible for a species to evolve to live so long that their perception of time was skewed?
Isaac has mentioned how the speed of light becomes kinda irrelevant once ur subjective framejack goes low enough. It was in the context of black hole civs, but should apply to any fram-jack capable posthuman/alien. Slow perceptions of time are however extremely unlikely to evolve naturally. Slow intelligence is not all that evolutionarily viable given its link to mobility & high energy cost. I guess going slow limits energy expenditure, but it also makes you vulnerable to far faster & stupider predators

Contemplating this... and you mentioning making a statite on the far side of a star on the rim. If I had any of space to hide in I might instead pick one of the nearby dwarf galaxies and do somewhat the same thing. Perhaps one of the smaller less appealing ones. I'd have some resources and ability to move, yet still be quite isolated.

Yes we have our current and near future priorities, but something like this is most likely what we are heading for.
Therefore.. it is most indeed indeedidily doo the respectable and responsible thing for us as a planetary society, to account for all those who are to come after us. To make sure our ethics are as strong as a pan galactic gargle blaster and managed by really amazingly hoopy froods who know where their towels are.

I was rewatching the video on the kardashev scale just now, and when you were talking about a K3 civilization likely being impossible without FTL I thought about Dragons Egg by Robert L. Forward. What if, instead of a species that experienced time more slowly than humans and lived briefly relative to us, there was an alien species that evolved to live much longer and, as a byproduct, experienced time quickly relative to us. Like, they live for several thousand years, but their perception of that lifespan is the same as we perceive an average 80 year life. In that case, while the speed of light would be the same to them, relatively, it would SEEM much faster. In a situation like that, would a K3 civilization be more viable, since, as they perceive it, they wouldn’t be waiting nearly as long for travel or communication? Also, is it plausible for a species to evolve to live so long that their perception of time was skewed?
Isaac has mentioned how the speed of light becomes kinda irrelevant once ur subjective framejack goes low enough. It was in the context of black hole civs, but should apply to any fram-jack capable posthuman/alien.
Slow perceptions of time are however extremely unlikely to evolve naturally. Slow intelligence is not all that evolutionarily viable given its link to mobility & high energy cost. I guess going slow limits energy expenditure, but it also makes you vulnerable to far faster & stupider predators
