My parents forced me to leave my apartment, continue paying the rent, and sleep on the couch so that my brother, the family favorite, could live there for free. th-cam.com/video/Z8CToDkkhPE/w-d-xo.html
@ In the beginning of the story I think the parents wanted to her to move out or go stay somewhere else? What I was saying is that it would be extremely difficult for a part time college student to pay $900 to her parents AND support herself living/staying in another place.
I guess whoever or whatever wrote this doesn't know a damned thing about housing laws in Chicago, or any large city. You can only evict a tenant for cause, and even then it can take several years to get somebody out. If they're not violating the lease it's nearly impossible. You sure as hell can't move someone else in while a paying tenant is there. There are several organizations that provide free legal help for tenants involved in disputes. In this case the parents would be paying very hefty fines and be liable in civil court as well.
You know that most parents who rent to a child never sign a lease , right ? Plus if you start a procedure contesting your parents evicting you , you can be sure that your relashionship with your parents is forever doomed . They’ll never forgive or forget so you won’t have parents any longer . What works for an ordinary tenant won’t work realistically for parents / children who are landlord / tenant .
@@marie34K I'd say if your parents evict you then one way or another the relationship is already sunk. If you're occupying a property, paying rent, and the owner accepts the rent, there's an assumed lease whether there's any documentation or not. As long as you continue paying the rent you're in compliance. All the daughter would need is cancelled checks or money orders.
@@marie34K The post says Chicago, which in Illinois, USA. I'm well aware other countries may have different laws. Even in the US each state has its own laws. They are usually similar, but not the same.
@@marie34Kfunny though how you seem to be the one making assumptions as my friend renting (as in an agent) in Chicago agrees that paying rent creates a de facto contract. You know what? An apologist and supporter of abusers is also an abuser.
So the parents own an apartment but don’t want the son to live there for free instead think the doughter should pay his rent to them. Not only did the author not know anything about housing laws but that OP didn’t call them out about them not wanting either of there children live there for free.
Op is an abuse survivor who is only now starting to be able to shake off the brain nwashing. She is not deserving of disrespect or abuse she nice I doubt any whole makeup Ng comments like her have the experience or strength to do so themselves
What sort of awful parents make their University student pay rent ? This is a USA thing . Over here that doesn’t happen . Heck , we bought a small flat in the city where our eldest started University, she lived there for several years and we never asked her for a single Euro . We paid for everything . Then our other 2 children also lived in this flat when they went to University. We had figured that buying the flat would cost us less than renting several years for each child . Money was tight while we paid off that mortgage but we never regretted it .
With the amount of stories from the USA with parents charging rent, or demanding money because they spent for their own children growing up, I believe that many people would charge rent as soon as they were born if it was legally possible.
OP’s scummy parents are not only liars and manipulators but masters at playing games with OP’s head. In the end they write how they didn’t realize how this affected her!!! OMG the biggest crock of sht ever. They were fed up of caring for their son, knew how much of a pig he is and decided to pawn him off on op while demanding she give him the bedroom, pay the rent and feed this ingrate. They bloody well knew but again played the innocent game. They’ll soon be at it again by using another ruse. I hope op doesn’t fall into their trap. Slime ball’s is what they are. Brother included. He just smoothed the passage to maintain a relationship but he too will connive since he’s too lazy to work and his parents aren’t dead yet.
oh please, your parents couldn't force you to do anything. If your brother shows up as the new tenant, pack your stuff and leave! go find a new place to live. It's not your apartment, your parents own it. But you don't need to pay any rent for the apartment if you're moving out. Because guess what, it's not a sibling's "duty" to support their other siblings. It's the parents' duty and obligation to take care of their children, not to pass them off to their other children. This is why you need a lease or tenancy agreement in writing even with family.
Ha! Well, now you know how much your parent care for you. Your parents have trained you to put yourself out for them and your brother. That's why you feel guilty. Also, why didn't your brother sleep on the couch? Sheesh!

Riiiiiiiit, everyone involved just "saw the light" in the end and apologized. Yeah that "totally" happened.
So they want her to pay $900 a month for her brother as well as pay rent for herself in Chicago on a PART TIME JOB 🤦🏽♀️
$900 for both of them to stay in it, not each. I might not understand you correctly.

Elise needs to find a little studio she can afford, and go No Contact with the family. And NOT pay Caleb's rent.
the daughter should rent a basement room and be free from the controlling and ungrateful parents and older brother.....
Do it for Dan story.
Do it for Dan was better😂😂😂😂😂
Its a very strange logic thinking a younger sibling should pay for there older sibling.
Not for manipulative and gaslighting narcissistic aholes
Misogyny makes it make sense.

It's not your place. Find. Roommateor sonething. Pay no rent, buy no groceries. Nothing.
Why pay rent on a place you're not even living in.?

Find a new place to live, pack all your stuff and take your money, and leave. Let parents pay the rent.
