The South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun has died, the country's emergency office announced.

A graduate of South Korea’s prestigious Korea National University of Arts, Lee made his acting debut in 2001 in a television sitcom titled Lovers. He later won acclaim for his performances in a variety of roles, but globally he was best known for his portrayal of the wealthy and shallow patriarch in Bong Joon-ho’s 2019 Oscar-winning film Parasite. We look back at his career.

He fell victim to blackmail from the woman who supplied him with what he believed were sleeping pills. She threatened to publicly expose their alleged affair unless he paid her. The veracity of the affair remains uncertain, but the blackmail was indisputable, considering the potential sensationalism in Korean media.
