7:10:53 An interesting little fact about Yuna saying "I love you" here is that's not what she said in Japanese. In Japanese, she says, "Arigato (Thank you)" but there's a clear romantic subtext in Japanese that let's a Japanese audience know what Yuna means. That context doesn't really exist in English, so the localizers for the English version of the game had to fight tooth and nail to change the line to make more sense in English. This game is special for me. Back then, when this game came out i was just a kid and ive read about this game in a couple of gaming magazines. Till then, the only "gaming" experience i had was super mario world on my dads snes. Reading through those magazines let me fell in love with this game. It took me the following month to get through the story and i remember that time to be the best time i had when it comes to games. This still holds true till today.
The Seymour kiss I think is added because it’s a reminder that while there is little sympathy for the man who Seymour became, it’s important to remember he’s a victim too. Of his father, of his people, and much like everyone. Of Yevon.
The reason I think it's there is to show the transition from "nightmare relationship" to "real relationship". Lots of people have spent considerable time with somebody who can't in any way match up to the person they eventually find.
Still my favourite game since 2001. This is the only game that have this effect on me, this is powerful. "To Zanarkand" is a masterpiece of music for a game.
Wonderful grasp of so many little lore bits. Well done, ma'am. I didn't realize Dream Zanarkand was a physical place that Sin was just trying to keep the rest of the world from finding until maybe 20 years later lol.
Yes of course I skimmed to see the part we've all been waiting for 😭😂 What an epic journey, it's been a joy to relive this story through your playthrough. Irony highlight: Tidus repeatedly promising "This'll be quick!" throughout a four hour boss battle 😂

Although I loved FFX, I didn't cry when I beat it when I was a teenager...I even teased my then-girlfriend a little for tearing up when she saw me beat it even though she didn't see much of the rest of the game. But now I go around watching other people beat it and bawl like a baby every time. I don't think I was emotionally mature enough, which is probably also why I didn't appreciate FF X-2 when I played it back in the day. For a long time I just thought it just wasn't a good game, but I watched a video recently explaining why the FF X-2 story is so great, and it completely changed my perspective on the whole thing. Looking forward to you playing it!
The peak of Final Fantasy ends here.... at FFX. However, thanks to Square, this will remain as one of the classics that we hold dear in our hearts as gamers!
This was one of those endings that cemented this story as a story that stands the test of time. I figure there are two types of people in the world that describe the game's ending; those who admitted it made them cry, and those that are lying. It's like taking an emotional dagger to the heart. What I found interesting over two decades ago, and even now, is how in the beginning of the game, Tidus is like this big goofball; there's not much emotional connection to him or it's hard to take him seriously, and then things start happening; Auron telling him the truth in Luca, or Tidus finding out the tragic truth at the Al-Bhed home, and the deeper you go, the more that emotional hook sinks in. One of the greatest stories ever written. Cheers to you for finishing this game, Julia!
Tetsuya Nomura did however cause a major stir within the FF community back in 2021 when he revealed that the synopsis for the game had actually already been written. He said: "If we are to make 10-3, we somehow have a synopsis written by [Final Fantasy 10 writer Kazushige Nojima]. It's sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist." Final Fantasy 10 director Motomu Toriyama has also expressed interest in bringing the game to retail but did note that Square Enix would first need to finish work on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Julia?!? Can you imagine if they continue make the dream come true FF X-3 with nowadays technology like vii rebirth or XVI?
Interesting. I’d love to dive into jecht’s story as well. Ugh…. I played this game when I was a senior in high school. I’ll be like 50-60 years old if they do remake ffx
Final Fantasy X-3 - FF scenarist already wrote the story In the Famitsu magazine interview, Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that if FFX-3 ever happens, Kazushige Nojima actually already wrote a rough draft for the story. He mentioned how they thought about planning a sequel when making Final Fantasy X Will and Final Fantasy X-2.5 Eien no Daisho. For now FFX-3 is a dormant project though. Lastly, Final Fantasy VII Remake co-director Motomu Toriyama stated that if Final Fantasy X-3 happens one day, it won't be before they're done with the Final Fantasy VII Remake project.
Wakka saying goodbye to another brother is so sad as well. This is the first game that ever made me emotional and made me recognize video games as pieces of art. It'll always be my favorite game, even if it makes me cry every time I watch that ending.
Another great playthrough Julia! I love your reactions, your resilience to the tough bosses, and trying to understand the crazy plot of FFX. Once you get it, you can see why it’s considered one of the greatest games of all time. The ending always hits hard. Tidus and Yuna forever in gamer’s hearts ❤ P.S. idk if anyone said it, but mYuna says “thank you” in Japanese version, but imo the “I love you” hits harder 😭
I've watched half of your videos on this game and I enjoyed the ride with you! I'm also one of the ones who beat this game 20 years ago; and I cried. So far, this is the only game's story that's ever accomplished that for me. Like others here, this is a once in a lifetime story for me. This game's story set the bar for every other game I've played. So far, nothing has come close. This game has a way of changing you. That's the best explanation I can give. Glad you enjoyed it. Just be ready to cry more when you watch others finish it; for some reason, the first time you see the ending isn't the saddest you'll feel watching it :)
I definitely enjoyed watching you play what is possibly my all time favorite game, loved seeing every bit of enjoyment you got out of it and how attentive you were with the story. I will be subscribing :)
I am a big FF fan. My favorite actually isn't one of the numbered games, though, but Final Fantasy Tactics. If you are thinking of doing a number of the older games, FFT deserves a look.
Tactics is fantastic! Talk about battles being "puzzles". They might as well have called it Final Fantasy Chess. I love how virtually NO ONE has plot armor outside of VERY rare occasions, and mid to late game loses HURT BAD!
Though notably, there are two translations of FFT. One is a translation that occasionally falls under 'giftedly bad / weirdly good' and one that makes it practically Shakespearian, and I love them both. For a new player, the War of Lions translation would probably be better.
@@firsealtonberry9712 idk... WotL translation sounds good if game were fully voice acted like ff12. But for a streamer to read aloud full game dialog in Shakespearian dialect/accent... wouldn't it be a bit overwhelming to try the whole game that way on stream? og fft translation seems fine enough imo for the most part aside from name mistranslations like Aerith as Aeris style ones. Simpler dialog also'd help fft's big complex plot 1st time?
7:12:14 Even Yuna, the last great summoner, can't summon Tidus who she loves but she tried with that whistling, he promised to be back to her, emotional scene
in case you're wondering about the *symbolism* WHY he swims toward the screen post credits, his *afterlife* is becoming YOU the player who beat the game. It's why he's named whatever you named him at the start (presumably your own name, why they just say "YOU" instead of ever saying "Tidus" out loud in voice lines) So congrats completing your ffx journey with precious memories & lessons to keep with you always, Player 😘
FFX is still my favorite FF story to have experienced to this day. Was a joy to see you playthrough it and feel the same things everyone else felt beating it for the first time. Such a silly game that said, "Hey you know what? Let's mess up the player at the end!" 😭
Hi Julia. I have no spoilers here: I watched pretty much every minute of your youtube playthrough. Loved it so much. Your reactions are so genuine. Very refreshing. You got pretty much the whole story correct as well, which I did not fully grasp as a kid. I was screaming at the screen though when you highlighted Reflect on Yu Yevon and then decided against it, "JUST TRY IT" LOL. Such and emotional and bitter sweet ending. I hope now that you have seen Zanmato you would try it against Dark Valefor and get the remaining treasure...You have come so far it would be cool to see you actually do that! Also, I would HIGHLY reccommend Kingdom Hearts now that you have played FFX and FF7(R). Looking forward to more from you. Thank you for posting this game 😊
Thank you so much for playing these games Julia, it's amazing to see how much you enjoy and appreciate them. I don't use twitch but I signed up to give that prime sub you mentioned. I think you will love X 2, it's a very fun and light hearted game with possibly the best ATB system in FF history. Also, I know you've mentioned that you were a little hesitant on non voiced FF's so I'd say I think out of the voiced games you might really enjoy 13. But a little warning for if/when you decide to play it. It is basically the culmination of Final Fantasy's turn based system and it is a very, very challenging game once it finally gets going (long, long setup) so it might be better to tackle it after you have a game or two in turn based style under your belt, you seem to really like a challenge and 13 really provides that unlike any other mainline entry (though some of the earlier were quite difficult too) PS: I know the voiceless factor in 8 or 9 would make you a little weary of them but they are very special games. I think you'll feel right at home in 8 as it has a lot of similarities with 7 remakes aesthetics and it also being the first game of Nomura and kitase where they started their precedent for basically all characters being ridiculously hot.
Alright Julia, I think you are ready for Final Fantasy VIII so you can meet Julia 😊. But I really want you to play Kingdom Hearts too! ❤ Think about it
Story: War between Beville and Zanderkan, Beville with the machina weapons overpowered Zanderkan’s summoners, so the citizens of Zanderkan turned themselves into fayth to dream Zanderkan. Yu Yevon is the most powerful summoner, hence he was peerless, he turned himself into an Aeon that fuses with his own Aeon to create Sin in order to defeat Beville. Yu Yevon’s daughter created the final Aeon by sacrificing her life to turn her husband into an Aeon in order to defeat Sin, but Yu Yevon was able to still live and merged into the first Final Aeon, that’s how the cycle of Sin started. 1.000 years later, the fayth is still dreaming Zanderkan, Sin has touched dream Zanderkan, and that’s how Jetch got out of the dream Zanderkan. The Fayth hoped that with this, Jetch will be able to defeat Zanderkan since he’s not a real person, but a dream. Then they used him as sin to get Tidus to hopefully break the cycle. Auron being unsent, was able to enter the dream Zanderkan with the help of Jetch as Sin. So Tidus did not traveled into the future, he was able to exit the dream Zanderkan.
Heyhey, thanks for sharing your FFX journey on TH-cam! 😊 I've seen people ask in the past when it came to the ending sequence why Tidus didn't say "I love you" back, so I figured I'd share that in Japanese she says "Thank you" instead. It is a different sentence that includes a similar message for each culture. In Japanese, it would have been very strange to have someone say "I love you" here, but "Arigatou" in this context is very fitting. In English, "Thank you" would not have the emotional meaning behind it as "I love you" would have, so for the English version they chose a more fitting alternative to fit the context in western culture. Both are valid, the original Japanese version is beautiful and they made a very smart choice in altering it for the English version to make it convey the meaning behind it properly.
Thank you. By watching your run i kinda re evaluated the game. I tought he was one of the weakest ff, but i forgot alot of things (i played it as a child) plus i missed some things. I also liked that you played not using the aeons everytime (if you use them right....they are kinda broken). And the ones you didnt get are even more broken. Auron was the goat when i played it as a child and HE IS STILL THE GOAT OF THE GAME NOW.
Congratulations! I'm so glad you have this game a chance since the combat style was something you were concerned about. I look forward to your future playthroughs! One fun trivia now that it's not a spoiler: the main menu theme before you click New Game or Load Game is called The Summoning.
As many people have said before, it's impossible to play a game for the first time again, but you can relive the experience through others, so thanks again Julia for doing this with us and for us... ❤By now you know that Final Fantasy is all about the relationships, the adventure, the companionship and inevitably the trauma and tears. It's also obvious that even us little chat monsters grew up with quite a few romantic stories in our lives and in our gaming catalogues... Now @juliatvgames I want you to make a promise to us that if no news come out about a FF9 remake soon (Game awards prayge?) you are going to bump this up in your list... I know you've mentioned you plan to play it this year and that you aren't bullied into submission, but I'm petitioning a bump to Summer, I would love myself a nice medieval FF adventure with you for those lonely summer evenings! 🙏
This was a really fun playthrough to watch and I'm excited for X-2! FFX has the best ending in any video game to me, the absolute gold standard of a great bittersweet ending. As Jecht said: "You'll cry. You're gonna cry. You always cry. See? You're cryin'" The one game that I think comes close to FFX as my favorite ending is Sanabi. And now that I brought it up I gotta try to sell the game to anyone reading this cause I dont see enough talking about it. If you care about stories in video games, emotional ones, the game is a must play. The musical storytelling in Sanabi is immaculate. I kept seeing Sanabi for months when browsing Steam games and didn't quite understand why it had a lot of tags for "story rich" etc cause it looked like an action game (and it is) But I finally understood after giving the game finally a try Sanabi is amazing. It is a shortish game (around 10 hours) so you could potentially beat it in one sitting if you had a real gaming day. It is also on sale right now on Steam. I truly cannot recommend the game enough, it is one of the 10 games I have given a 10/10. I don't think it necessarily is a 10/10 game but the story affected me a lot
6:25:43 I love this scene because it's a callback to when Tidus was going to catch Yuna the first time they met, but Kimahri beats him to it. Nice bookend that shows his growth after that long journey.
I love this game, I played it as a kid on the PS2. But I'll never play it again, it still evokes painful themes and memories, that I'd prefer not to think about.
Always best to give X2 some time before starting it for the first time. The game (and opening scene especially) come across as whiplash levels of tone shift when played immediately after X.
Julia I left a very detailed explanation of the story on part 20, if you want to take a look at it. There were no spoilers at the time I posted it, so you might have skipped it because of that, but it's there in huge detail
Not every turn-based combat game is as good and dynamic as this game, I saw people in the chat comparing this FF 10 combat with Pokemon and Persona, that's wrong, Final Fantasy 10 has the best turn-based combat of all the turn-based combat games.
Thank you for the journey! Dont worry about struggling with Braska's Final Aeon. A lot of people have done endgame grinding by that point, which makes him easier.
it was only watching this that i realised that the Jecht boss music is the same as the opening of the game when Tidus is playing Blitzball just before sin attacks
This game lives in my heart, full stop. (I have a soft spot for what I call 'what's grief, can I eat it' stories, and this is very much one of those.) Since you enjoyed the turn-based combat, may I suggest the Persona games, which will *also* emotionally devastate you! XD I can't speak to 1 or the 2s (two games) as well, but Persona 3 changed the formula away from those. (For 3 play Reload or Portable for FemC; for 4, the original release or Golden are both fine; for Persona 5, Royal hands down.)

There are 3 good strategies for Yu Yevon.
1) The reflect strategy you found on your own

I don't think I was emotionally mature enough, which is probably also why I didn't appreciate FF X-2 when I played it back in the day. For a long time I just thought it just wasn't a good game, but I watched a video recently explaining why the FF X-2 story is so great, and it completely changed my perspective on the whole thing. Looking forward to you playing it!
X-2 is super underrated. Can't wait for Julia to play it and show the world how wrong they are
Always enjoy someone's first ending to this game, your reaction is pretty much universal.
I love Tidus&Yuna, Cloud&Aerith and Clive&Jill. 😭😭
Gave us beautiful stories.
It's sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist."
Final Fantasy 10 director Motomu Toriyama has also expressed interest in bringing the game to retail but did note that Square Enix would first need to finish work on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series.
God I hope it's not the one that was 'leaked' a few years back, I read it, it was awful
@@wildman3910 hehehe i read/watch all above the novel, the audio will everything xd
Tidus and Yuna forever in gamer’s hearts ❤
P.S. idk if anyone said it, but mYuna says “thank you” in Japanese version, but imo the “I love you” hits harder 😭
Also, now that you have finished it, do a TH-cam search for "FFX ending reaction" and watch others experience what you just did; it's such a feeling!
I definitely enjoyed watching you play what is possibly my all time favorite game, loved seeing every bit of enjoyment you got out of it and how attentive you were with the story. I will be subscribing :)
first time i've seen julia actually be unable to hold back the tears on stream, usually she laughs to stave em off. great game!
This whole journey was so fun to watch on stream, thanks for another amazing Final Fantasy adventure Julia
you're crying you always cry see you're crying
Thank you for helping me enjoy this game for the first time through you again. Im so happy you enjoyed this wonderful story ❤
I am a big FF fan. My favorite actually isn't one of the numbered games, though, but Final Fantasy Tactics. If you are thinking of doing a number of the older games, FFT deserves a look.
FF Tactics combat would BREAK her brain 😂
Tactics is fantastic! Talk about battles being "puzzles". They might as well have called it Final Fantasy Chess.
I love how virtually NO ONE has plot armor outside of VERY rare occasions, and mid to late game loses HURT BAD!
I've never played Tactics but heard nothing but good things
Congrats to 150k followers on Twitch! Loved your playthrough ❤
This game made me cry back in 2001. 23 years later, as a much older man... this game still brings me to tears. Yuna was right, never forget them...
The ending when Yuna is whistling at the ocean. Tidus taught her to whistle so that when they are separated he can come.
7:12:14 Even Yuna, the last great summoner, can't summon Tidus who she loves but she tried with that whistling, he promised to be back to her, emotional scene
I've seen the ending so often you'd think I wouldn't cry any more. Instead I now start to tear up in anticipation to the "I love you"
I was about to go to sleep cuz I’m too drunk but holy moly 7 hours….i won’t be sleeping yet! Imma enjoy this thank you
in case you're wondering about the *symbolism* WHY he swims toward the screen post credits, his *afterlife* is becoming YOU the player who beat the game. It's why he's named whatever you named him at the start (presumably your own name, why they just say "YOU" instead of ever saying "Tidus" out loud in voice lines) So congrats completing your ffx journey with precious memories & lessons to keep with you always, Player 😘
Suteki Da nE is so but so beautiful it fills my eyes with water everytime when it hits in the end no matter how many times i see this scene...
FFX is still my favorite FF story to have experienced to this day. Was a joy to see you playthrough it and feel the same things everyone else felt beating it for the first time. Such a silly game that said, "Hey you know what? Let's mess up the player at the end!" 😭
Suteki da ne
Really want you to try FF6, great story. Hopefully can overlook the old-school graphics
if she's okay reading aloud full game dialog on stream doing all voices herself she'll love ff 6 7 8 9 lolol
Those SNES graphics still look great to this day, imo.
@Hamburgers4Haiti i agree :) but I wouldn't fault someone for calling the graphics old. I love all the ild pixel remaster games :)
I can't believe you actually played this. One of the best. 👍
It is basically the culmination of Final Fantasy's turn based system and it is a very, very challenging game once it finally gets going (long, long setup) so it might be better to tackle it after you have a game or two in turn based style under your belt, you seem to really like a challenge and 13 really provides that unlike any other mainline entry (though some of the earlier were quite difficult too)
PS: I know the voiceless factor in 8 or 9 would make you a little weary of them but they are very special games.
❤ Think about it
Any chance you will go back and finish of Gilgamesh in Rebirth. A bunch of lore you missed. I miss that play though.
Story:
War between Beville and Zanderkan, Beville with the machina weapons overpowered Zanderkan’s summoners, so the citizens of Zanderkan turned themselves into fayth to dream Zanderkan.
I've seen people ask in the past when it came to the ending sequence why Tidus didn't say "I love you" back, so I figured I'd share that in Japanese she says "Thank you" instead.
I'm so glad your first turn-based game was so enjoyable, Julia! Looking forward to your X-2 playthrough. :)
Someone else who thought it was worth beefing Yuna up- it pays off
I couldn’t wait and watched your vods on Twitch, and now I’m going to rewatch on TH-cam
To Zanarkand OST
NOBUO UEMATSU, what a legendry composer. 👍

This game's ending is like a dagger to the heart. No one manages to get through it without crying.
This was a really fun playthrough to watch and I'm excited for X-2!
FFX has the best ending in any video game to me, the absolute gold standard of a great bittersweet ending. As Jecht said: "You'll cry. You're gonna cry. You always cry. See? You're cryin'"
The one game that I think comes close to FFX as my favorite ending is Sanabi. And now that I brought it up I gotta try to sell the game to anyone reading this cause I dont see enough talking about it. If you care about stories in video games, emotional ones, the game is a must play. The musical storytelling in Sanabi is immaculate. I kept seeing Sanabi for months when browsing Steam games and didn't quite understand why it had a lot of tags for "story rich" etc cause it looked like an action game (and it is) But I finally understood after giving the game finally a try
Sanabi is amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it, imagine playing this a kid. Story is unforgettable.
Many moons ago 12 year old me got a ps2 and final fantasy x-2 from zellers and thus started a love of the series
I first played through this game in 2003. All these years later, this ending still gets to me... 😢
6:25:43 I love this scene because it's a callback to when Tidus was going to catch Yuna the first time they met, but Kimahri beats him to it. Nice bookend that shows his growth after that long journey.
I kinda figured you'd combine the two days. Worked out better for sure
Had to re-edit the video a couple times because the file was too big for youtube 🤣 but it worked out!
I love this game, I played it as a kid on the PS2.
But I'll never play it again, it still evokes painful themes and memories, that I'd prefer not to think about.
Seeing your face in the thumbnail 😭 ...feels like Kingdom Hearts next yr could lighten things up? THAT story "runs on happy faces" 😂
Yeah but Kingdom Hearts sucks lol
It really doesn't. The first two games are amazing @@AuramiteEX
@@jacobteague635 not really. I can list 40 rpgs that are better
@@AuramiteEX So can I lol
@@jacobteague635 so let's recommend the 40 rpgs that are better
There are certain people in life who will drink you under the table. Then there are games that cry you under the table. This is one of those games.
Always best to give X2 some time before starting it for the first time. The game (and opening scene especially) come across as whiplash levels of tone shift when played immediately after X.
Best JRPG ever!!! 10/10!!!!
Julia I left a very detailed explanation of the story on part 20, if you want to take a look at it. There were no spoilers at the time I posted it, so you might have skipped it because of that, but it's there in huge detail
Yes. I love ff with turn based system too. Good times
Since you survived FFX... Now it's a good time to experience FFXIV!! You're gonna love it :)
A lot of people have done endgame grinding by that point, which makes him easier.
this ending.. it seems i still cant get over it.. it was so emotional back in 2002 X_X
Glad you plan to play X-2. Don't listen to people who are saying to not play it.
I'm 110,2 % certain you'll love the game.
my girlfriend got me Final Fantasy X/X2 HD on Switch. I am really enjoying it and don't remember a lot when I first played X when it first came out.
it was only watching this that i realised that the Jecht boss music is the same as the opening of the game when Tidus is playing Blitzball just before sin attacks
This game lives in my heart, full stop. (I have a soft spot for what I call 'what's grief, can I eat it' stories, and this is very much one of those.)
Since you enjoyed the turn-based combat, may I suggest the Persona games, which will *also* emotionally devastate you! XD I can't speak to 1 or the 2s (two games) as well, but Persona 3 changed the formula away from those. (For 3 play Reload or Portable for FemC; for 4, the original release or Golden are both fine; for Persona 5, Royal hands down.)
I didn't watch it live, but kept on shouting Cast reflect on "Yu Yeven" thing and use physical attacks.😂
I can't thank you enough Julia for playing this wonderful game! For enjoying the correct chronology of Final Fantasy X series of events story-line purpose is as follows;
