    Actually, leaving that 1/8" of lip below the cover is smart so you don't catch the diff cover's lip on rocks and pry it off. Learned that the hard way and re-welded a flat bar of 1/4" back to the bottom of my 13 bolt to protect the cover.

    I have zero fabrication skills but this series of vids is giving me motivation to go to the junkyard, grab a cheap axle to experiment & practice on with the expectations of botching it up & hopefully learning from those mistakes. Good stuff Ben!

    If I ever have the budget for 1 tons then I’ll definitely be buying aftermarket because I don’t have the knowledge or skill that you have to do what you’ve done so far.
    But each and every single video I watch in this series gets me more and more excited to eventually see you install these axles on your Jeep and wheel with them.

    Again, love this series. Are you gonna a weld the tubes as well or just install the truss? I am not sure if tubes spinning is an issue with the 14 bolt or not. Looks like some pretty massive welds holding them in.

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No real need to weld the tubes on these. Spinning isn’t an issue with these. Plus with welding the truss to the tubes as well as the diff it will have no issues

    Would you get anymore clearance if you shaved the fins and welded a 1/4” skid to the front bottom so it slides better over rocks?

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since the pinion angle will be pointed up, the lowest point is where the shave is. So I don’t see that helping much. Plus the fins help cooling so I’d reccoemnd keeping them

    How frequently should you change or check gear oil?

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Factory manual says every 30k. I like to do it at 15k. Off-roading can allow water to contaminate it. So I say it’s better to change it more often, and no need to use the fancy gear oil, the cheap stuff works perfectly fine

    Hey there, first things first these are great videos! One suggestion, no one really wants to watch you weld or grind. We do want to see the results but can’t see anything you are doing because of the arc and cutting the welding from the video would shave a considerable amount of time from your already a bit too long videos. The content is great but I’m betting you are losing quite a few views because of all the wasted time watching you weld and listening to your welder sputter over and over for 10-15 seconds at a stretch.
