This was by far the most informative and helpful E-bike video on TH-cam not to mention specifically for the Ridstar Q20... Your videos reassure my purchase as I'm using this as a fulltime commuter till I get my license back. This e-bike was the best bang for the buck,, and I knew I could and would upgrade it down the road,, Just didn't know how till your videos... Ik most ppl aren't interested in this, but would LOVE to see a speed upgrade done to this bike, cuz like i said this is my fulltime commuter n sometimes the mornings don't go as planned, n I'm not tryna be late lol. Anyway great vid!
Thanks for the feedback and glad i can help others out
Ordered mine yesterday. Hoping to get the range and value out of it that it looks like it may provide. We'll see.
I'll definitely be back here for tips. Appreciate the reviews that helped inform my buying decision.
Thanks B Rich!
Congrats and hope it works out for you
how much range do you get throttle only with the upgrade?
Awesome upgrade video on what appears to be one of the best budget friendly ebikes, thank you. Would love to see this thing with some cheap street style motorcycle tires nudge nudge 😁But I know how you love your offroad.
yes, I do a bike of on road and off road, but I bet smooth road tires might get extra 1-2 mph on top speed. The Ridstar Q20 Pro has smooth street tire on it. It looks cool. Kenda Kraze 20x4.25 ebay.us/5uRsa6
@@BRichSolutiontoo bad don't fit any ebike
I noticed you must have painted the side panels from white to black. It looks good, I'm considering doing the same thing, I also want to paint my battery matte black to match. I think it will clean up the looks if it's all black throughout.
Yes I painted the black side panels in my suspension upgrade video
I put a holographic black film on mine. I couldn't be happier with it. I had to heat and poke the holes out, but it looks pretty clean
Thanks for the video iv been waiting for this one!
Also another idea for this bike. I’d like to know if it’s possible to install some front and rear turn signals and maybe a future video on how. Keep the videos coming ! :)
Okay great idea
@@BRichSolutionwaiting for this upgrade 😎
What do you think of the ridstar dual motor version. I read somewhere said it was limited to only 30mph even after adjusting the settings. I was thinking about still getting one and maybe changing out the controllers. Would it be difficult to find a controller to fit?
I really like the Ridstar Q20, but Pro model is priced wrong IMO. Watch this brief video explains why I would not buy a Pro version th-cam.com/video/KPf2C8uzaVo/w-d-xo.html
Hey Rich, awesome video! I just ordered my upgrade items and want to know if you recommend using both batteries in the on position simultaneously or one off and one on at a time? If simultaneous, do you notice that it uses one battery before the other?
I typically start on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars I shut the bike off and power up with 2nd battery until 1 bar. Gives time for factory battery chemistry to settle out. Then ride home on both batteries
@@BRichSolution Cool. One more question.... does the M5 have display limitations with the Hailong battery?
Hmm so on the new dual battery, dual motor ridstar are there 2 of those yellow aderson connectors? One to each battery because i know one battery is only for the front motor and the other for the back? Are there 2 controllers?
You should be able to connect extra battery to the rear motor using the battery combiner in this video
Great video how was the On / Off Switch Installed wish it was included in video as well !
See this video for on/off switch plugs into the xt60 connectors th-cam.com/video/nLNtF0iRzzk/w-d-xo.html
Great video! Does having the additional battery change the voltage and battery percentage on the display? Cheers!
No change in % but just drains slower
Hey I'm planning on getting this bike and following your guide to do this mod. For the best range, would you run them simultaneously or switch off?
You can run both at the same time; but I tend to run just factory battery down to 1-2 bars; turn off then switch to the 2nd battery run that down to 1 bar and then turn both on to get me home
What type of battery did you use or is this? Have a link? 🙏🏻
Love Vids thank you.
thats sick i just started making videos on the ridstar going around my town a extra battery could make vids more interesting i will look into maybe getting one!
Yes you can go further
Could you possibly fit a super73 seat on this? Like the high tier models such as the s2? Just asking because a “gas tank” battery mount would look way better than the original look
Super 73 seats will not work on this bike as the frame is not flat like a super 73 but rather it has a V-shape hence this seat only fits
I noticed all the Dual Battery Management System Modules are 500 w, but my e-bike is a 2000 W? do you know if it needs to be a 500 W controller?
No the 30A battery combiner is sufficient for this bike
Were you able to just loosen the screws and slide the battery mount enough for the bottle cage? Or did you need to drill new holes and re-mount?
Drilled one new hole, one slot lined up
@@BRichSolution Another time consuming expense. With all of the money and labor you have thrown into that bike, shocks, battery, etc. You could have just bought a top of the line bike.
I get it though. Every bike, part and tool that you show, you get commision from links and your Amazon store.
Don't drag us down, man. What's with the negative waves? @@user-je6vl4ee9z
Is the set that’s all in the link all plug and play? Will I have a problem with XT60 connector being different on my bike or will I need adapter? Seeing a previous comment someone having a issue
All plug and play as long as the xt60 connectors. If you have a different connector on the controller the you can always buy a adapter for $4 on amazon from T to Xt60
All connections are plug and play
@@BRichSolution Thank you for the help and the video! God bless brother
Also which battery is that in the video you are using? Is it the 48v 10ah?
Yes 48v 10Ah battery see link amzn.to/3KyZC8Y
Have you got a link to buy the q20 because it is not on amazon anymore
says 18 left on amazon amzn.to/3OU3js8 or amzn.to/47w1Bo5
hey wondering if i can install a rear rack for a basket on this?
This is the only rack since its full suspension see link s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_msUcNyE
So I have this bike as well and thinking about doing this to my bike as well for a little bit of more range. My question is since you added this second battery, have you seen a increase in speed with the bike or no?
No increase in top speed, but top speed is maintained longer and does not fall off after 20 miles like a single battery.
hi, i have the same bike and would like do the same upgrade. After ordering my battery combiner i noticed i ordered the 20A version. Will the be a problem for me? should i return it for the 30, or 40A? thanks for your advice!
The bike may have a slightly slower top speed with 20A version.
I was thinking abt getting a q20 soon and I was wondering if it is really worth it and if it is a big difference
If you can buy the Q20 with 20Ah (don’t buy 15Ah version) for less than $999 then go for it. Some of the cheaper bikes don’t have hydraulic brakes which is not good to have mechanical brakes for speed over 22 mph
Good you painted the white panel below seat...white just looked strange. 😅
I agree
For the regular 48 volt battery is there a faster charger i can buy? Like a 5A charger or 7A? And if so where can i buy it from?
Link below is 4A charger. Any faster will shorten the life of the battery and cause fire
amzn.to/42PdPGE
Why did you choose to not leave it in the frame and loose the included cargo bag? I'm looking into purchasing the Q20 and do this mod.
I remove the battery from the bike when I am not being used as I don’t like to store batteries in my house
@@BRichSolution Makes sense, Does the battery come with a charger or will I need a charger separate? I just purchased the bike Can't see anything comparable on amazon for the price.
How do you charge the 2nd battery & what is the name of the 2nd battery and what is that extension wire called ?????
Battery comes with charger. A link to all the parts are in the description below the video
Hi! this battery is no moore available on your amazon links, do you have a alternative one suggest?
Battery still shows available on Amazon amzn.to/442nnhY
hoo its probably unavailable because i'm in canada thanks for the response!
what is the on and off button for? Can it also be done without an on and off button?
Yes can be done without on/off switch. I just like to isolate the battery
How do you increase the speed of the bike? I am only going 10 mph. I set the bike to 20 ah, and I set the mph to mode 100 on p8. What else do I do to increase the speed of the bike?
What PAS level are you in? Use the + button to put bike in PAS 5 for 30 mph speed. Make sure amps set to 30 and p14 to 100. See settings video th-cam.com/video/pnaEkvOyHwE/w-d-xo.html
do you think i could add surron style front and back fenders given i do a little work?
Yes
@@BRichSolution thank you, does it have like the same attachment parts on the frame or would it be more of a custom job?
@@BRichSolution like optimally i would just slap some replacement surron mudguards on but i know it’ll take atleast a little more than that so i’m trying to figure it out before i buy the ridstar, thank you😁
So on the Amazon links, I believe I need the 2 cable connectors like in ur video, there's a 3rd set of cables, but that's for charging or something like that? And what voltage and amp battery is that u got? There are several choices, id really like to upgrade my mileage, instead of just buying an extra battery, thanks again for all u information.
The 3rd set of cables is optional if you want mount battery lower and the switch cable is now long enough extension
@BRichSolution got it thank you, that battery? 48 v 10 amp? Could I do the 48 v 15 amp?
@BRichSolution 48 v 10 amp , easier to install, and thats 30 amp total, good enuff!
It’s not the regular pro but it’s a ridstar dual battery 52v and dual 1000 watt motors. I found it for 1700. According to a post of Reddit it only goes 30mph even after adjusting settings. I’m going to purchase it and probably change out the controllers if possible? I just don’t know where I can find controllers to fit.
For $1700 you can buy a 52V dual battery, dual 1000w motors Yolin ebike that is faster and lighter (aluminum frame) then Ridstar Q20 pro that has 52V batteries has steel frame and controller chokes performance. Im just saying
My concern is that it is shipped from China, I do believe it’s a better bike. I’ve had bad experiences from shipping from China. I wish they had them in the us.
how much did this whole upgrade cost you because i plan to get a ridstar in a couple days and i might upgrade it if it's not too much.
$250
@@BRichSolution wow that's good price i will definitely look into the upgrade
Hey rich great video but the price on the battery and cords cost a lot is there a possible alternative
you can save some money when buying the cable and combiner from AliExpress s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DdJxKQx s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DCi8oBl and wait for the battery to go on sale. The nice thing about the hailong battery is it comes with custom bag for easy mounting. amzn.to/49n0Gqo Cheaper option might be $160 but battery bag is $40.
i couldnt understand very well your explanation in your video, could you do another one how you do the extension and how you fix the battery, and do we need to remove the extra battery for charging? please...
see this video for connecting everything... different bike but same procedure th-cam.com/video/F8CQGnFdxs0/w-d-xo.html
@BRichSolution thank you so much sir, I follow you and like your videos...
@@BRichSolution hello Mr. Brice sorry to bother but which one should I buy for Dual Battery Pack Switch Balancer? 30A or 40A please, thanks a lot
HEY RICH. Can the 48V 20AH VERSION OF THIS BATTERY STILL FIT ON THE RIDSTAR Q20? I NOTICED ITS BIGGER THAN THE 10AH
Doubt it
@@BRichSolution THANKS. AND DID YOU CONNECT THE ON/OFF SWITCH TO THE EXTENSION CABLE?
Hey I have the same bike, but my throttle stopped working and I checked all connections and I'm not sure what to do. Does your light staying running on the back? I think maybe my brake is somehow activated at all times engaging that light in the rear and not letting me throttle, any other ideas or fixes? thanks
I had this happen and i flicked the brake levers to get the brake switch to disengage. If that doesn’t work then unplug the brake lever motor cut off wires from the controller to determine which brake is the issue. If the throttle is bad as seller for replacement or buy one in amazon for $15 amzn.to/45vJInP
Thank you for your advice. Ridstar contacted me and directed me to adjust a screw on my brake levers as you mentioned and it solved the problem, this upgrade it next!@@BRichSolution
does anyone know where to get an extra ridstar battery?
Did u pick up any speed with 2 batteries?
No, controller limits output. I did however have higher speeds longer as the higher voltage last longer. With one battery after about 20 miles voltage dropped and I couldn’t go above 30 mph. Now i can go over 30 miles before top speed drops. BTW this bike is pretty fast for $999 with top speed of 31 mph. $5000 super73 only go 32 mph. You cannot get much faster with 48v
where would i find replacement parts for this bike all i have seen is breaks and batteries
All the parts are common on Amazon or Aliexpress. Only frame is custom with most ebikes
right now the amyet g60 is about $850 on amazon without tax and with the 100 coupon plus 150 delivery, and the g20 is 1050 with delivery, would you suggest spending the extra 200 for the g20, or should i save with the g60? thank you
If you can find Q20 with 20Ah battery for under $1000 buy it. If not then get Amyet for $800
@@BRichSolution looks like after tax and everything the 25 ah amyet is 970 and the q20 is 1130, what would you recommend?
Is there a difference between 20A/30A/40A? Or is only size of converter?
Buy the 30A version. 20A will make bike slower
Anyway to remove the throttle? Throttles are illegal here in Ireland and I’m hoping to just use PAS mode on maximum and hopefully it would be easy to peddle? I don’t mind low speed. Just want to stay legal and hopefully no sweat 😂
Settings in controller or worst case unplug it from controller
What is the point of the on/off switch, and does this affect your speeds at all?
on/off switch allow you to isolate the 2nd battery and that way you know how much is left. I ride out on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars on battery life I turn on 2nd battery and head home
@@BRichSolution Ah so you are switching batteries, it's not like they are 'combined'. Any mods you recommend? I was thinking switching to kendra street tires. Any way to get around the speed limiter? Would be cool to have some kind of basket too. And was the only reason you ended up moving the battery was so you could flip that on/off while riding? That first location seems so prime.
what will happen if i connect a 36 volt battery to the stock battery? will it go faster?
36V battery is too low and will not do anything if connected in parallel. In series you could be at 84V but you would ruin the bms in both batteries and or fry the controller
Hi nice mod. I also have a ridstar q20 1000w 20ah. What balancer should i choose.. 20a 30a 40a? And the battery is 48v, right? Thank you
30a balancer is sufficient and the battery is 48V
So a 48v 20AH version of this battery will work with the ridstar q20 right?@@BRichSolution
How do you charge that extra battery or need to buy a special charger for it ?
Charger comes with the new battery
Any idea for rear cargo rack an site to find
I think this rack will fit on the back of the Q20 s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_mKHshDu
Does the battery make it faster or just increase the range
Doesn’t make it faster, but you can maintain higher speeds longer as with stock single battery top speed slows down after 15-18 miles, with 2nd battery you can maintain top speed longer and go further
i do like the idea of more range but how about speed? and if so how much faster would it go?
No gain in top speed but with 2nd battery you can maintain the higher speeds longer than with single battery after 18 miles speed slow, with two you can go 28 miles. Not much more speed you can get out of bike with 48v; 31 mph top speed is respectable. $5000 super 83 top speed is 32 mph
@BRichSolution ok my last question with the installed battery you put on would that also need to be charged?
Is uphill performance or acceleration improved?
same performance but top speed and acceleration do not degrade after 18 miles with single battery. Extra battery you do not feel impact until 25-30 miles
sorry but you didnt show how you installed the cable on off switch, could you do another video please? thanks
on/off switch plug right into xt60 connection see this video th-cam.com/video/F8CQGnFdxs0/w-d-xo.html
can you add an extra battery to the other ridstar bike?
yes, the controllers in the Ridstar is the same so the battery combiner and extra battery will work. The tricky part might be where to place the extra battery and packaging the battery combiner in a folding frame
Is there anywhere you can buy a replacement battery for it in case the main one breaks?
Any 48v hardshell battery on amazon or aliexpress will work. You might have to swap out the mount but thats easy 2 bolts amzn.to/3YKUYud
thanks for the reply@@BRichSolution
What’s the best upgrade I can get so I can go faster ?
Probably the replace the controller with a 25A output. I need to do some research on which one will work. You won’t be able to go much faster maybe 1-3 mph but your range will be shorter. With 48V your maxed out on speed. Even $5000 Super73 only gets top speed of 32 mph and the ridstar Q20 does 31 mph. If you want to go 40-45 mph you’ll need a 60V ebike which expensive and heavy
Could you possibly link the on and off connector
Link to on/off connector on Amazon amzn.to/3KiT2Tp
What brake pads are you using?
Shimano see link amzn.to/4be7WGp
@@BRichSolution Lucky..They changed the pads theyre using.
Do I just use the stock charger that comes with the bike to charge the extra battery?
extra battery comes with charger amzn.to/3sfBstS

For the battery combiner did u get 30a ,20a or 10
Or 40 instead of 10
30A
Is this compatible with the Amyet S8?
Yes
Is it possible to raise the seat somehow ?
Yes buy a taller or longer rear shock to raise the seat
Just Bought Ridstar. but i just wanted to ask, does the base battery (48V 20AH) Dies withing a year or so? I read a comment about the batterry being faulty and dies out after a year of use. Is this true?
All ebike batteries (even expensive LG or Samsung) have a cycle life. If you cycle (charge and discharge) battery constantly below 20% will shorten it's life. Typically ebike batteries get 500-2000 cycles
Is there a way to make them go faster?
Maybe with 52V battery. But with physics 48V 1000W not much faster. $5000 super73 only do 32 mph
How can you make the bike go faster?
You could change the controller to 25A ouptut it might get you to 32-33 mph… but physics has you pretty much tapped out… sell the bike and buy 52V yolin for $1500
I just got my ridstar q20 it goes up to 30 mph but i can't get the speedometer to read it only goes to like 8.9 mph even when not riding it is there a setting for this
check P06 setting for tire size as it should be 23 for 23 inch diameter tire. Smaller number will read slower on display. see full manual drive.google.com/file/d/11lAw9iM5LSeClU6BIZ9uhWouXFD8nR_3/view
@BRichSolution I'll check thank you so much, it's the 1000 watt 48 volt it works great it's just the speedometer it's registering my speed
Will that change the max speed or not
@BRichSolution thanks so much it actually worked, I had it set I think the highest, but works great now
how much range do you get throttle only with the upgrade?
13 miles throttle only in extra battery that is only 10Ah and 27 miles on stock battery so total of 40 miles. You can go further if you get larger 15Ah battery or ride in PAS 4
thanks!
How do you charge the battery?
Comes with charger
Will the extra 10ah battery make it go faster? if it does about how much?
Not faster but you can maintain top speed longer. Stock battery top speed drops after 20 miles with extra battery you can 32 miles before speed drops
@@BRichSolution To make it go faster do you have to change the motor or can you do something else? if so what?
How do you charge the extra battery?
The extra battery comes with a separate charger and there is charge wires on the extra battery. You can see the black cable coming from the battery
Have you noticed a difference in performance and mileage?
Higher speeds last longer with extra battery. With just one battery speed drops after 18 miles not I can go 28 miles before power is slowed
Will this work on the c91?
yes, it will work on c91 but you might need to use T-plug dean to XT60 adapters to plug in with factory Emoko controller amzn.to/3QDuJnw
@@BRichSolution Thanks mate much appreciated
How you charge up that battery
You can run both batteries or toggle back and forth with the battery combiner; see parts list in description below video

hello sir, which one should i buy please? 30A or 40A
30A is sufficent
@@BRichSolution thank you so much...
Why did you change the location of the battery?
To make room for the extra or 2nd batch
@@BRichSolution I mean in the video you ended up placing it where the cargo bag was. I was wondering what made you change your mind. I thought your first placement choice was great.
I did this set everything then find out the old battery power line is not 60xt connector.
Was it a T or deans connector? They sell adaptors
So okay how do i make it faster?
See video to make q20 faster
th-cam.com/video/pnaEkvOyHwE/w-d-xo.html
Does this help speed or only range? How can we make this bike faster?
Also what parts can we buy to amp this thing up? I appreciate any help in advance. Love this bike as it helps me go to work
Longer range but does help maintain higher speeds longer as after 18 miles top speed slows down with one battery
You can’t go much faster with 48V battery. $5000 super 73 only have top speed of 32 mph and Q20 goes 31mph. To go faster you’ll need a bike with 52V or 60V battery
So I’ll pretty much need to invest a newer bike if I want a faster speed?
Thanks for replying by the way
What did you use to paint the side panels?
Yes I painted the white peg board panels black! You likey?
I used vehicle wrap. It was so easy, and you can remove it or change it easily.
@@BRichSolution yes its very nice
can you upgrade the motor next? maybe 3000watts?
The issue with going to 3000W motor you'll also need at least 60V preferably 72V battery. That will cost you over $2000 and the frame might not be able to handle the torque. Best bet is to sell the Q20 and buy a Stealth Bomber Clone with 3000w. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDjbsn9 The 48V 3000W bikes has front and rear 1500W motor which is great for hill climb but range short and top speed is only 34 mph

you sly dog :) congrats on the build

Slap a larger battery on the top tube and get a handlebar cargo bag.
Yes you can do that too. I wanted to retain the the cargo bag on top for my tools and water
You should get a battery tester, that little guy is most likely not 13ah.
The small 10Ah capacity which is enough for me, they sell 15Ah version see link amzn.to/3JJCfbU
just brag about your 10mm socket why dont you
Lol… you’re right
Do not buy this bike no customer service if it doesn't work you pay $450 to ship it back to get your money back
Sorry to hear that. Did you buy from amazon or aliexpress? I had issue with ridstar folding bike last year and sent me replacement part no problem
I bought mine on Amazon and it was a great purchase. thank you for reviewing this.
Thanks for your videos. Your videos always helpful! I have a quotation. If I change battery to 72V 20AH is that work? Is it go faster or longer range? Have you any recommendations or ideas?
72V you will need to change controller and motor. 52V you can just change battery and keep stock motor and controller
How do you charge the extra battery? Do you have to disconnect it and remove it from the bike?
No disconnecting the battery once installed. Battery comes with separate charger which is interchangeable with factory battery
So you have to have the bike within reach to be plugged into an outlet/the charger or another one?
