was the room already set up like that furniture wise? I really like that desk setup, and most of the videos I have seen you get a very small desk, but I want to bring my gaming pc so not sure what to expect
Don’t suggest you bring a pc. The desks provided are pretty small and you’re going to need a laptop for classes too
Hey awesome vid! I see that the East Dorms aren’t the nicest, yet people say that when it comes to meeting new people and making friends, East is worth it. What do you think?
Santiago Marin I’d say they would be right in terms of freshman. East dorms have the highest placement of freshman throughout the campus. So, your definitely gonna meet a lot of freshman in the east dorm area. However, I found that I made friends and met other people in pollock and west more than east. That’s just me though.
That's only the unrenovated ones, which are as bad as Pollock I believe, but renovated is one of the nicest due to single bathrooms and air conditioning. They also have lounges on each floor to meet people in.

i actually really like the larger desks in the traditional halls! question, I committed on April 5, 2020 and my roommate from high school committed sometime in January. We both put down East renovated as our 1st choice and rooming together as a top priority. Do you think we still have a chance at renovated because she committed earlier? Thanks!
tia 1805 You all still have a chance but it is less of a chance. Since you put “rooming together” as the priority, they will try to fulfill that request over the request for renovated first. Basically, your friend was on a waitlist for renovated and when you applied in April and said you wanted to room with them, she got removed from an earlier spot in the waitlist to a much further back spot in the waitlist along with yourself. I would say your chances of renovated are about 30%-40%. Not impossible but definitely not super likely. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

thanks for responding! do you think it would be a good idea to change our preference to the room location instead of the roommate option like we had previously? sorry for asking all of these questions, i just don’t want to let her down because she’s really into the renovated style and i don’t want to be the reason that prevents her from getting it.
also do you think it would be a good idea to switch the overall hall location for our second choice to possibly south, north, etc?
tia 1805 If she really wants renovated, the best bet would be changing the preference to location instead of roommate choice. This will almost guarantee you all won’t be together as she applied so much earlier but again, it’s still possible. North and South are usually packed with everyone EXCEPT freshman so it will probably be hard to get in. That being said, you should definitely put South renovated as your second choice if it’s an option because it’s really nice.

Hi. Im at east halls trying to connect my echo dot alexa but im having trouble because of the wifi. How did you connect yourss?
Go to rescom.psu.edu and it will instruct you on how to connect all your devices to the PSU wireless. You basically have to get the MAC address of your Echo dot and enter it into PSU’s database. It will give you more specific instructions on that website. If you still can’t figure it out, call rescom PSU at (814) 865-2942
I saw u have ur own desk chair, what do u do w the one the dorm comes with?
I had bed risers so I put the wooden chair under my bed.

when did you accept your offer? i’m gonna be a freshman at penn state in the fall and i’m hoping to get East renovated but i know it’s hard to get. any tips or do you know why you got unrenovated maybe?
Olivia Taylor I accepted my offer April 8th of 2019. I would definitely say that’s later than most but definitely not too late by any means. Tips for getting renovated is basically accepting your offer and applying for renovated as soon as possible. I probably would have gotten renovated if I didn’t try to room with a person from my high school. That person accepted their offer later (cause they applied regular decision) and in order to room with each other, I had to drop my spot in the queue for renovated to the spot he would get entered into the queue at that moment. So then we had a lower chance of getting renovated but were guaranteed to room together if that makes sense.

Naomi Meyer Yes yes and yes... This is unfortunately true. Your chances are better if you have a planned roommate. This is for those who have friends that are going to Penn State and know they want to room together. If you look it up on the PSU eliving website, it will show you how to do this. Renovated is actually a little more money as well so that’s something to think about.

Naomi Meyer It is manageable but it definitely isn’t the best. Was it noticeable, yes. The best way to deal with it is to make friends with people in renovated so you can just chill there and use the amenities there.

MALNOURISHED PANDA You should definitely start doing some review of Calc before you get there. There are class like math 22 that are not calculus right away but more on the speed of what you were doing in your semester of pre-Calc. You should be fine as long as you talk to your advisor when scheduling your classes so that you start in the right math for you. As far as coding classes, you should be fine with a only a semester of pre-Calc for the first comp Sci class you will take which will probably be CMPSC 131 which is a breeze.

MALNOURISHED PANDA A MacBook Pro should be just fine. Desktop wise I would look for a pc for sure. I built my own pc myself if you want to check out that build but it’s pretty expensive. My pc build video is on my gaming channel: KXGaming

what about washrooms? coz SEE, I dont mind dorms being any way as long as its clean (roommate side since mine would always be clean no matter what) BUT THE WASHROOMS? oh fuckk I cant even start on my bad experiences with people and washrooms, since I'm too used to my own washroom here at home and sharing them....its torture..pure hell since even a single strand of hair is gonna make me puke out of disgust.....I'm sorry.... I didn't mean to come off as a bitchy person BUT HEY I have hygiene issues ok....i cant help it....
Yea the bathroom situation was pretty bad. I heard it was worse for the women’s bathroom. I think the new dorms have bathrooms that are only shared by a max of 4 people so that is much better. In the dorm I was in, I shared a bathroom with 20 other guys 😬 so yea not Ideal at all.
