On vacation many years ago i met a family that was from Arkhangelsk and I kept trying to ask them about their giant dam - they had no idea what I was talking about. At the time it did not occur to me that movies could film in one location (the contra dam in Switzerland) and claim it be in another part of the world (Arkhangelsk, Russia). From their perspective I was telling them a movie about a british guy trying to blow up a dam and causing harm to russians.
I’ve lived in between Buffalo and Niagara Falls all my life. One day, when I was probably in my mid-to-late twenties, I was watching an X-Files episode that started out on the border of North Dakota and Manitoba or something. I was dumbfounded that it was just an open field, because it had never occurred to me that you could enter Canada without going over a bridge.
Here's another fun fact for ya the character James Bond is actually scottish, Ian Fleming mentioned it in one of his final books as he liked how Sir Sean Connery played him he made his place of birth Scotland That's why in Skyfall Bond's childhood home is in the Scottish mountains
I think the vent on Dam was intended to be part of the end cutscene of the mission. In the movie, bond climbs into that vent and it’s possible the devs initially wanted to make an animation of it. Based on dev interviews, it’s likely that the animation was too complex.
This. You can see it on the way down if you're looking down before you step off. Clearly you were going to land on the vent much like the end scene to Frigate.
Ol dude on statue has another line if you walk away while he's talking that's something like 'im risking my life to be here, the least you could do is listen to what I have to say' or something similar, and I just saw this on my most recent playthrough says ago I was like wtf I've never seen this before lol, it was great. Not sure if this counts as a rare line of dialogue at all (considering speedrunning), but I've always loved how in Statue if you go unarmed before spawning Alec, instead of asking you to put your weapon away, he will make a quip about budget cuts. Love this channel, btw
Even as a child I found him to be smug because if you have a weapon, he reacts intimidated. Yet if you show up without a gun he acts as if he has all the advantage.
I think my favourite line is on the mission statue, get to the statue were you meet Janus (006/Alec) and you have no weapon equipped and he says. "Good evening 007, No gun, 007? Mi6 must be cutting their budget these days.
I did this one time and it was my 5th time doing the mission, so you can imagine I wasn’t having much fun anymore. When Janus says to me “No gun?” That ticked me off so I pull out the gun. Then he guards start open firing and he said something along the lines “You’re a fool, James, and it will cost you your life.” Idk what he said exactly but I got even more upset lol
Originally the vent on Dam was going to opened up with the laser watch (like the film) however this was removed. The source for this info was from one of the Goldeneye Dev interviews on TH-cam.
I like it better in the game. You feel like you failed as you fall to your death just to watch the cut scene of Bond hop off nonchalant. Didn't see the movie ahead of time so thought he was some kinda superman.
In the GoldenEye source code, there is a text reference to the "Piton Gun" item, which is the tool Bond uses to pull himself down to the Facility vent. So it does indeed appear, along with the Watch Laser, that it was first planned to replicate the sequence as it happens in the film.
@@finkamain1621 Some years ago I had to show a friend you could shoot Xenia on Train in order to be able to beat the level on 00 Agent. Reminded me of those times.
17:23 I believe that this technoPP7 dude is actually talking about the trapdoor that is located on that room where you kill the Dam officer and acquire the Dostovei pistol, just before where you plant the Covert Modem gadget. There is a trap door there and it can't be opened.
If you press B at the computer in Surface 2, instead of destroying it, you fail the mission and an image of a guard pops up on the computer screen with dialogue saying “Wat iz it Comrade?”

This often leads to very bizarre and contradictory situations, like for example guards who throw Hand Grenades and then end up killing everyone who got Bond killed in the first place.
And, to follow up the Egypt 0:00 thing, it's worth noting that Aztec ALSO doesn't have an exit/unload zone but it checks to see if the shuttle has been launched, so the "all objectives complete" code still makes you play the level to some extent.
Okay. I am left handed, left eye dominant, but my left vision is bad from meningitis...so I started shooting lefty, but transitioned to right hand, right eye shooting. Because of this my carrying of gun is left/right inconsistent. I'd like to think this is why the "error" is there 😁
I knew about the Boris and statue messages just from messing around back in the day. If you rapidly throw knives up to the sky in the room where you kill Baron Samedi (or any open sky I guess) you will glitch the sound effects out and they will sound corrupted for the rest of the stage. It has something to do with the overlapping knife throw sounds I think
Goose: "We've got almost 20 minutes of fun facties about 007!" Me: "Huh, video's like 23 minutes long." *Three minutes of Raid Shadow Legends* Good on you for smacking that cash button, dude. Get paid!
I remember finding a crash bug in Goldeneye. It involved covering the space shuttle on Aztec in remote mines (I think the max is 30?). Then during the end cinematic when completing the stage detonating the remote mines using the control scheme that lets you fire your weapon on controller 2. This would always lock the game.
We used to have second controller on. Then finish the last mission. After moonraker mission. If you finish the mission. You can let the controller 2 shoot at the end of it.
Pre mainstream internet was such a fun time. Actually knowing nothing and believing every rumour you read in magazines or heard off kids in the school yard. I miss them days 😢
One of my favorites things to do in this game is to play the Silo level with invincibility on and blow up a plastique and watch the entire level explode. Little kid me thought that was hilarious.
On Egypt, there's a control style, can't remember which, that allows the second controller to shoot during the end cutscene. It's hilarious because as soon as Samedi starts laughing, you can shoot him in the face and kill him.
I actually saw that Boris text very recently, when I accidentally blew up the console right before he got to it. "Crypt" is cool and eerie, because Samedi is ghostlike, or even is a ghost, I don't remember the story.
Good to have you back goose, had a mini-heart attack when your channel disappeared, love putting your videos on in the background when I can't sleep lol
RareWare games used to make me think "aztec" was synonymous with temple. Donkey Kong 64's "Angry Aztec" is a very weird name for a level when you think about it.
Another obscure line of text is if you kill boris in the control mission before unlocking the door for Natalya to enter into the computer area. She scolds you for killing boris due to him not being a real threat then runs back to the elevator, failing the mission
Another little strange one. In one of the demos of dam in the intro of the game, bond goes into his watch to select the covert modem. It can be seen briefly that his inventory consists of unarmed, kf7 soviet, and the covert modem, but not pp7 silenced - a default weapon you always have in the level. In the actual game, even if you empty the pp7’s ammo entirely, the weapon still shows up in your watch inventory as an option, but it’s mysteriously not there whatsoever in this demo
Hey guys, its Goose here. Im back up at cottage, the cabin. One of my favorite places in the entire world to be. Its a nice crisp september night. The perfect temperature to be sitting here at the fireside.
I remember when I played GoldenEye back in N64, I used to activate the invincibility cheat so I wouldn't die, I gathered all the enemies in one room and use the plastique to blow the hell of everything there, then saw the "Mission Failed" text for some reason, and then proceed to throw grenades and more plastique just to earn a massive frame drop which was really satisfying to achieve, lmao that fine line between feeling too OP and almost crashing the game.
16:40, funny fact, me and my brother saw it when we were young because our TV was probably really bright. everyone can see it by looking down before jumping and just before the screen completly fade out it's visible. we were bumped because it's in the movie.
5:07 one of the greatest websites of the early internet for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. It is a tragedy that their Perfect Dark site is not archived properly as the newer players have no idea how much obscure information was available on there.
@@juandager5220 the N64 was my first console which I inherited from my older relatives and I had Goldeneye so naturally I played it. I still play my fair share of modern games today
Wonder if the watch ones were their initial names during development and names mostly got simplified or changed when nearing release, but people kind of forgot the watch menu borders since they are really easy to overlook.
I remember screwing around in the Facility level and getting that rare dialogue from Trevelyan, it was funny seeing that kind of stuff being implemented
on Control, if you kill boris before going to the door natalya is opening she will say something like "i saw what you did to boris you didnt need to do that" and youll fail the mission
I often hear people criticise the controls in this game nowadays, but I have never had a problem with them at all (I use 1.2 Solitaire). But I guess it is easier to stay comfortable with them if you have actively been playing the game ever since 1997, like I have done.
Lets just take a moment and appreciate gooses dedication to goldeneye… another obscure line of text i forget what it is but pretty sure natalya says different things when she comes out of the elevator on control depending on what bonds health is
Also if you put on invincibility and stay inside the Bunker on Bunker 2 when the Goldeneye satellite blows it up, it's a plastique-style never ending explosion.
definitely knew about the statue level message that the flight recorder couldn't be that far out, but most of these were brand new! IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING!
For rare dialogues, in Control if you destroy the computer or keyboard at the beginning of the level, Natalya will say very clever James, and she will then tell you when you done clowning around she might still be waiting for him in the elevator. Same for when you need to protect Natalya if you destroy the computer she will comment that it was the only computer and tell you the same message if you done clowning.
Ok, FINAL ONE I PROMISE. On multiplayer, Caverns, Facility and (if I remember correctly) Archives all restrict you to half of the level by locking doors to the rest of the level. You can use the "walk through doors" GameShark code to go through the doors and see that the rest of the level is there, but all of the objects (computer consoles, doors, the tanks in facility etc) are not. There's also no ammo or guns, but it could still be a fun multiplayer match with more of the level unlocked.
Loved that they build the levels off of the movie sets then built objectives around the environment. It's terrible for navigation but does so much for immersion.
Always made me mad that the photo for Facility on the level select screen shows the stairs in the tank room, but you couldn’t get past the corridor with the lab rooms. 😒
Rare line of dialogue you may have missed...Pretending to be sick in bunker 2, by walking over to the cell door when you're conversation with Natalia is over.
I don't know if anyone's told you this already, but Trevelyan actually has more lines he says in Facility. If you shoot him before you detonate the tanks, he'll say "So, the golden boy is a traitor! How ironic, James." He'll start shooting you and after a little while, he'll say "Why can't you just be a good boy and die, James?" And when you kill him, he'll simply say "Why, James?"
One of my favorite lines is Alec snarking at you if you go to the rendezvous point in Statue with the Slappers (read: melee with no Sniper Rifle) equipped: _"Good evening 007, No gun, 007? Mi6 must be cutting their budget these days."_ Another fav of mine is if you talk to Zukovsky in either Statue or Streets and leave before the dialogue finishes. He'll complain about he's risking his life just being there and that the least you could do is show some dignity and listen to him. Main reason this is my fav is because soldiers in Streets can enter the building where you meet Zukovsky, which can result in an unintentionally funny situation where he obliviously complains while you get jumped by some soldiers.
You can also replace the dam truck with a red semi truck or an APC with GameShark codes. Personally, I liked to replace it with the tank and drive it around the dam. 😆
16:08 We already knew/know what that small tunnel is on Dam. It's cut content. In the movie, that's how Bond infiltrates the facility. The original first edition manual and the story flavor lore text basically spells it out; It's a scrapped objective from an earlier version of Goldeneye. A Grappling Hook weapon/gadget existed, but got removed. You would have had to rappel down, and open the grate and hop in, just like in the movie, but scrapped and turned into the cutscene that we got today.
A new Goose video, just when I needed it! I hope you do more fun obscure deep dives with Gameshark codes. I had so much fun exploring and testing things with Gameshark and ActionReplay codes when I was younger. Vividly remember hookshotting from one island to the next in Wind Waker and was blown away that it was possible. Hope you have a great 2023!
7:21 The part on the train on depot ending about the obscure in world models for weapons with the sniper bond is so memeing around in Battlefield or CoD (or other competitive FPS) vibes and using long range in point blank maps to troll
16:50 That is indeed a relic of the level's intended final objective. As in the movie, you were going to have to use a piton gun to grapple down to the vent and gain entry with a cutting laser. The devs said they never got the piton gun working. They also said that you were originally going to collect the piton gun on the unused island across the reservoir, and that they never implemented the boat to get to said island.
12:05 found this one organically recently on a failed 00 agent run on the new switch version - this is the kind of thing that impresses me most :) nice to see new things in a game you thought you knew backwards after 20+ years eh ;D a true sign of greatness in a game
Of course they have external models. Both the plain shotgun and the hunting knives are in multiplayer which have them laying on the ground when you pick them up.
4:22 - He is NOT holding the stock with his right hand and holding the trigger with his left. He is holding the stock AND trigger with his right hand...do you not know how guns work? 9:43 - It's pronounced Co Vert not Cuv Urt.
On control, if you take a lot of damage in the first area and return to the elevator, Natalya says something different similar to “James you’re hurt!” Vs “James you were wonderful” and then later on, if you kill Boris before opening the door allowing Natalya in to the main control area, she gets butt hurt and says something like “I saw what you did, Boris was my friend” and then leaves causing you to fail the mission, but! You manage to run past Boris, open the door allowing Natalya to enter the area, then turn around and kill Boris before he disappears to the vent, nothing happens and you can complete the level.
If you shoot but 006 in facility without passing him away, he will say somthing to the effect of "so the golden boy has turned traitor?" Then he proceeds to shoot at you, and if you then pass him away he will say "why, james?"
I always found it cool going between the flashback missions and the missions that take place in the film. Seeing the enemies change from Soviet to Russian uniforms was always a small detail I appreciated.
I've discovered one weird Easter egg and/or development leftover that I can't find any mention of on the Internet. First, turn on No Collisions with Gameshark and play Frigate on Agent. Then go to the room belowdecks with the metal and wooden crates. In one of the metal crates is a Body Armor that you would otherwise not be able to pick up! This only works on Agent Mode.
Here's a few: The entirety of Statue Park can be accessed on multiplayer using GameShark codes. However, only specific sections of the level will load at a time. It appears to have been originally planned, since there are actual ammo box and weapon locations, but ultimately cut (I think) due to lack of rendering ability. Also using GameShark codes, if you add the Plastique to your inventory in any level outside of Silo, if I remember correctly, it acts like a timed mine with no time limit. (Or it might have a timer on it, I can't remember.) The explosion is the same as that of a mine as well, and does not result in instant KIA when detonated from a distance. A timer for the level does not start either. Speaking of the Plastique, if you throw one in the Silo on Agent, you actually get less time to complete the mission as compared to 00 Agent. Agent gives you 6-ish minutes, and 00 Agent gives you over 8 minutes, automatically primed. Watching the opening cutscenes all the way through on Secret and 00 Agent automatically primes the explosives at the end of the cutcenes, but if you skip them, you will have extra time to open the first door before the timer starts. This is probably a hard-coded timer that begins a certain number of seconds after the level officially begins, accounting for opening cutscene times. In Control, when you retrieve Natalya so that she enters the main room and she programs the Goldeneye satellite orbit to decay, she says, with this punctuation, "I'm coming, James!." Yes, with the "!." at the end of the text.
The Dam vent is explained if you watch the movie. Bond jumps off the ledge, lands on the vent, laser watches it and enters the facility. Obviously the devs probably planned for a longer cutscene but lacked the memory, or the time to do so.
With the flight recorder line, I interpreted that as a kid as "there's no way the flight recorder could of been thrown this far, this is suspicious" not as a hint.
The text in this game is hilarious because if you don’t know what’s going on and bungle the npc encounter they’ll be like “James you fool!” Or “James you betrayed me how could you!” When in actuality you didn’t read the mission objective and either ran away or shot the npc
In Statue, when you meet at Lenin's statue to "Unmask Janus," he'll tell you to put your gun away. But, if you show up with your gun already holstered, he'll poke fun at MI6's budget issues
I think the reason there are no grenades on Train is due to the level design. The first two rooms are basically entirely explodable boxes and the rest of the level is narrow corridors, both not places where you'd want grenades flying around from a gameplay standpoint.
I was hoping you would add the floating remote mines in this video. I'm not sure how to trigger them, but if you have the remote mines in the bunker stages and throw them against the little monitors that hang on the ceiling in the big room at the end, then detonate all of them at the same time, all remote mines you try to throw afterwards just hower in the air instead of getting thrown forward. I saw another video some years ago where somebody explained why it happened, but I forgot by now 😅 Still as a kid playing this game it was the best thing ever to discover by accident. Edit: Found a clip for it: th-cam.com/video/tEUVzDEUrvE/w-d-xo.html
I figure the logic behind "Janus Control" might have been to get an extra reference to Janus the terrorist group, since it really doesn't get referenced much in the game after Trev is revealed to be their leader.
I've gotten a 0:00 best time in a few time trail levels from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command of all things. Though, it was a glitch, and I have no idea what triggers it. There were just these few, rare times I'd boot up the level, and just as the "briefing" came up, it would suddenly fade to black and the "Mission Accomplished" screen popped up. Oddly enough, the strangest instance of this was when I did the time trial for Mission 12: Canus Lunis 2 (where you fight the wirewolf), which is the longest and perhaps most tedious level in the game, as you fight non-stop gauntlets of enemies while time bombs threaten to blow up the planet at all times. One day, twelve seconds into the time trial, and the game faded to black, placing me at the "Mission Accomplished" screen. I didn't argue with it. I didn't wanna run all the way through the level all over again, so I accepted the glitch.

It's one of the two-controller ones (for awkward couch co-play). Domino I think
His channel disappeared?!
When did that happen?
RareWare games used to make me think "aztec" was synonymous with temple. Donkey Kong 64's "Angry Aztec" is a very weird name for a level when you think about it.
Another obscure line of text is if you kill boris in the control mission before unlocking the door for Natalya to enter into the computer area. She scolds you for killing boris due to him not being a real threat then runs back to the elevator, failing the mission
It's true. That's a good one.
Or if you blow up the first computer she works on after the first elevator
I wish!
Useless goldeneye 007 information I am here you have my attention
16:40, funny fact, me and my brother saw it when we were young because our TV was probably really bright. everyone can see it by looking down before jumping and just before the screen completly fade out it's visible. we were bumped because it's in the movie.
5:07 one of the greatest websites of the early internet for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. It is a tragedy that their Perfect Dark site is not archived properly as the newer players have no idea how much obscure information was available on there.
It's true, I would love to see all the Perfect Dark obscurities. I suppose it's mostly lost media at this point.
26 years on (even though I’m only 23) and I still learn new things about goldeneye. Amazing video Goose!
I spent so many hours after high school Playing this with my friends.
Glad to see it still appreciated I suppose.
I'm always curious: What makes a 20 year old interested in such ancient games? You have so many modern options with better graphics and controls.
@@juandager5220 the N64 was my first console which I inherited from my older relatives and I had Goldeneye so naturally I played it. I still play my fair share of modern games today
One of my favorite rare dialogues is in Runway when you try to open a door near where you first spawn. It reads, "That leads back to the gasplant!"
That's a great one!
If you shoot xenia on train, she says "I've been hit!"
A 4 minute raid ad... that shit is rough
You know what they say about January on TH-cam...
@@GamerFolklore th-cam.com/users/shortsBmc9NFfhx74?feature=share
Mi6 must be cutting their budget these days."_
Another fav of mine is if you talk to Zukovsky in either Statue or Streets and leave before the dialogue finishes.
Congrats on 100k subscribers Ryan!
Well deserved friend 👏
You can also replace the dam truck with a red semi truck or an APC with GameShark codes. Personally, I liked to replace it with the tank and drive it around the dam. 😆
the amount of times ive played this, ive never noticed the different names of the level on the watch!
Strange Crypt... And seriously why is it not Missile Train or Military Archives? So weird!
It's a pause screen for the ages for sure.
Just so you are aware, the “co” in COvert is pronounced like “coe” (rhymes with toe).
As for Egypt's name on the watch menu, it may be an old relic of the beta, as it was named Crypt back then, but has been changed to Egypt afterwards!
16:08
We already knew/know what that small tunnel is on Dam. It's cut content.
In the movie, that's how Bond infiltrates the facility.
The original first edition manual and the story flavor lore text basically spells it out; It's a scrapped objective from an earlier version of Goldeneye. A Grappling Hook weapon/gadget existed, but got removed. You would have had to rappel down, and open the grate and hop in, just like in the movie, but scrapped and turned into the cutscene that we got today.
wow lol a 4 min raid ad-read long even for them.
Hookshotting between islands sounds absolutely crazy! Happy New Year to you as well!
7:21 The part on the train on depot ending about the obscure in world models for weapons with the sniper bond is so memeing around in Battlefield or CoD (or other competitive FPS) vibes and using long range in point blank maps to troll
You can drive the truck on dam but I forgot how
I'm really glad that you recovered your channel another awesome video to watch, thanks!
That dumb intro with peach saying "herewego" made me laugh like an idiot
16:50 That is indeed a relic of the level's intended final objective. As in the movie, you were going to have to use a piton gun to grapple down to the vent and gain entry with a cutting laser. The devs said they never got the piton gun working. They also said that you were originally going to collect the piton gun on the unused island across the reservoir, and that they never implemented the boat to get to said island.
There’s a video somewhere in this Raid: Shadow Legends ad
Goddammit I hope they paid you double for that long ass commercial
12:05 found this one organically recently on a failed 00 agent run on the new switch version - this is the kind of thing that impresses me most :) nice to see new things in a game you thought you knew backwards after 20+ years eh ;D a true sign of greatness in a game
why is Baron Samedi in Egypt.. and you have to fight him with the golden gun ??
could they have mixed it up more ?.. LOL
Awesome video. Still learning new things about this amazing game. Is there a chance for a video like this for Perfect Dark in the future?
Perfect Dark yes please!
TH-cam would be a duller place without R White Goose. Thank you for the uploads
My friends... Goose is still at it making some of my favorite content on the interwebs... Thank you for keeping at it, my friend!
Cheers on including the guard clip! Great stuff as always 👍
Fun fact if u have all the guns u can make combinations like have the golden gun and a laser.
If you shoot but 006 in facility without passing him away, he will say somthing to the effect of "so the golden boy has turned traitor?" Then he proceeds to shoot at you, and if you then pass him away he will say "why, james?"
I can't believe I'm still seeing new things in this 25 year old game.
I always found it cool going between the flashback missions and the missions that take place in the film. Seeing the enemies change from Soviet to Russian uniforms was always a small detail I appreciated.
I never put that together, but it makes so much sense. I might mention that in a future video!
@@GamerFolklore Bunker I and II would be a good example!
Here's a few:
The entirety of Statue Park can be accessed on multiplayer using GameShark codes.
I have never heard anyone pronounce "covert" like that.
With the flight recorder line, I interpreted that as a kid as "there's no way the flight recorder could of been thrown this far, this is suspicious" not as a hint.
If you shoot 006 in Facility but don't kill him he will say "So, the old boy is a traitor? How ironic."
The text in this game is hilarious because if you don’t know what’s going on and bungle the npc encounter they’ll be like “James you fool!” Or “James you betrayed me how could you!” When in actuality you didn’t read the mission objective and either ran away or shot the npc
Favorite kind of content, you’re the best Goose
Edit: Found a clip for it:
th-cam.com/video/tEUVzDEUrvE/w-d-xo.html
Loved doing this back in the day. The rockets from the Rocket launcher would also float 😂😂
This glitch I learned from the Mexican magazine "Club Nintendo" back in the day.
I figure the logic behind "Janus Control" might have been to get an extra reference to Janus the terrorist group, since it really doesn't get referenced much in the game after Trev is revealed to be their leader.
I totally think i have gotten the "i cant fix this" one from boris.
Cool video man!
I didn't wanna run all the way through the level all over again, so I accepted the glitch.
lmao is that a THREE MINUTE LONG RAID SHADOW LEGENDS AD????
3.5 minute ad has to be a record, they must have you on a tight contract.
Great vid!!
Pretty irresistible title.
