I don´t agree that self- confidence comes from within. There are people who don´t work like that, they have tendency to see what´s missing in them and their errors and the things they cannot do and they see however the qualities of others. Thats one of the characteristics of gifted people. And educators at school or bosses at work should detect this need and support more this people because they really need moral support because otherwise they can become really discouraged.
