Kriega R20 backpack is one of the smallest back pack offerings from Kriega with a full 20 liters of storage. Designed for active riders that don't want weight on their shoulders, the unique Kriega strap system, called the QUADLOCK-lite harness system relocated the weight of the pack off the shoulders and to the sternum to reduce fatigue. The adjustable harness straps allow the rider to customize fit and the wide open straps allow for easy on / off over your riding gear. All silver components on the pack are reflective and the R20 can accommodate a US-5 for 5 liters of waterproof storage. On the inside, a pocket specifically designed to accept a hydropack, with compression as the bag is emptied. An impressive 10 year warranty backs all Kriega products.

The R20 backpack is not waterproof, but is water-resistant. If you are caught in a light rain, your laptop would be okay. If you commute in inclement weather regularly, you might prefer the Kriega R30 that is 100% waterproof or The Alpinestars Slipstream backpack. ~Ali
The 20 is definitely more streamline and the lines work well on a sport bike. The 25 is a more standard size, and is what I use for daily commuting. -CK
my R30 is probably the most comfortable 'mid-size' pack i've ever owned. I've worn it out walking, and mtn biking. Fits perfect, doesnt move, and no weight on my shoulders.

One or the other, most likely, but not both. It depends on the size of the items. If you want to carry both, I'd try for the R30. -CK
It is adjustable enough to technically fit, but I don't think it would be very comfortable. If you wear a jacket with a speed hump, I would look into Kriega's tailbag or tankbag options instead. -CK

This is a backpack only and shouldn't have a problem carrying a 17" laptop!
Obviously you have a developed chest with broad shoulders, my chest is 49 inches and only the OGIO mach fits great but the pack is too large sometimes. Wil this fit a larger chest?

Can it be possible to strap the R20 on the tail of a bike like the US20. Can it be done. I want to strap a bag on the tail so I don't have to carry it when I'm riding. But when I m out and about, I want a backpack style R20 with easy accessibility, lots of pockets and compartment which US20 doesn't offer. Kriega should look into a hybrid version.
contrary to what Anthony says in this video, Kriega do make a waterproof backpack (the R30).

Hi I was wondering what would be a better backpack for a college student carrying some books and a laptop, would a r20 be fine or should I just get the r25?

Yes. In fact, the R20's straps are adjustable both at the bottom _and_ at the top of the straps. That allows you to adjust strap length for both torso height and chest size. -DrewZilla

gev0108 No, not really. You could get a separate helmet bag with handles and loop one of the cinch straps through the helmet bag handles. Then you could just stuff the helmet bag in the backpack when riding. It's not a perfect setup, but it could work. -DrewZilla

Would you recommend this or the Alpinestars Tech Aero Backpack? I commute quite often and need to carry a Security chain, and a few other necessities. I love the way the staps are on this and like the style much more, but would appreciate helmet storage.

I ride a moped and this bag didnt dissapoint, u hardly feel the weight when u need too pin the throttle
can anyone comment on how it feels etc for using it off the bike, say walking around lugging books etc.

As much as I was hyped about the R20 Kriega, it failed to provide. Check out my video on the defects.
If its not 100% completely water proof its not a motorcycle backpack.
+break time Agreed. For 140 dollars, it should have at least a waterproof lined main storage area like their US series of packs.
