What are some ways you get motivated or inspired to take action on goals you set for yourself?
Your description of "that core value of beauty" really rang true to me. I've always had a very strong attraction to beautiful environments. As you say, the land and the architecture, the overall ambiance. But when I was very young, I only vaguely recognized just how important beautiful surroundings really are. I'm sure it was because it seemed frivolous and trivial compared to "really important" things like achieving independence, establishing a career, making money. How sad that we are forced to postpone genuine living! But how wonderful that it doesn't have to be forever. We are lucky to have the chance. Many people never do!
Thank you for sharing this. I think its a part of life that many of us have to go through. And you are so right, we are fortunate to have awakened and to be able to take advantage of it now.
Loved this Patricia!!! ThanQ so much!!! Ive checked all the boxes!!! ❤
☀️☀️👑 I confirm, Patricia found her paradise on earth . France I a nice country .
Thank you. I feel so fortunate!🤗
Hi. New Subby. Informative and great video. Right now, I have all the motivation. However, finances are not the goal set numbers. Which is my only hold back.
To remind myself of my goal (and not become overwhelmed by the #1 culprit), I have a large flag of France hanging in my apartment.
I look at it whenever in view. To remind myself that the time to move is near.
Thank you for subscribing! Having the motivation and know your financial target are huge and will help you stay the course. Bon courage !
Patricia this is a very important and well thought out discussion about the why's of making a decision to move abroad. I believe quite a few people who are considering taking the plunge don't carefully weigh the why's of making such a drastic change of life. Your video will help with that contemplation.
Personally speaking, the biggest why I'm considering moving abroad is because if I don't it's my opinion that I will have a lot of regrets. I've always wanted to live in a different country. And I spent months living in South America in Argentina and Brazil. So for that reason I have first hand knowledge how it makes me feel to live outside my birth country. There is a yearning to experience more of the same but in Europe.
Regrets. Yes, this is something that has motivated me to change my life and do what felt scary. Tapping into how you feel when you are abroad is a powerful change agent, leader on this! It sounds like you are well poised to make your move abroad with purpose and meaning. Thanks for sharing.
Patricia, has such a calm, practical, capably warm demeanor it is easy on the eyes, ears, And Soul to put these Actions into discerning executions. I look forward to her weekly, monthly inspiration and practicalities as I contemplate dipping my toes in " My Life in France," ( nod to Julia Child). I'll be transparent my GOAL was to move for ' just one year's to SW France before the 100th Anno of the Olympics (So March) and family obligations, money and ran out of time has kept me from my initial goal but I'm not giving up! Another great reason to keep Patricia's Good Work foremost n my mind! Thank you, Patricia. Keep building yours community!
Oh, wow,@@dulogcrew . Thank you. It feels good to know that the work I'm putting out there is having such an impact. Thank you so much for sharing this. Keep your eyes on the goal and set a new date. I know that you will get here and experience life in France.
I’m ready to make the move…my wife has career goals she wants to achieve and wants to keep working for a few more years for a full 30-year US fed govt retirement. I retired from the military in 2014 (after nearly 26 yrs) and worked as a govt contractor for 5 yrs afterwards…but quit to enjoy retirement just before COVID-19.
Hopefully those few more years will pass quickly and you'll be able to make your move. In the meantime, enjoy your retirement. You've earned it! Best wishes.
Video is very helpful Patricia. Thanks.
Hi Veronica, so glad this spoke to you. Take care!
Fantastic video, Patricia!❤ Only finances are holding me back. Also, having a geriatric-age father is a huge consideration -- he's an active senior and doing well. However, I couldn't bear leaving my country while he is alive. He wouldn't forgive me, and I wouldn't forgive myself. He doesn't need or want a caregiver, although he has a surrogate-daughter (a cousin's adult daughter) boarding in his house. But if that young lady (in her 20s) ups and leaves, he'll be living alone. I know that he dislikes living alone, and I would hate to go abroad to live my best life only to find out that he's alone again. If I were living abroad and happily so, I'd regret not having moved in with him.
I become sad whenever I contemplate these scenarios. Very difficult ... Thankfully, my motivation hasn't waned. Meanwhile, I've been occasionally traveling. By the way, where I travel on vacation, I've been in many situations where I HAD to speak and understand French. Being able to read French has enhanced my travels immensely. Friendships in one particular province led to my discovering that my love of the French language led me to them and to embracing their culture.😃
Yes, the things that are holding you back sound like things you have come to terms with and can give you time to get your finances where they need to be. And you are still motivated! Best wishes.
Hi Gabriel. I hope you don't mind me adding my two cents. Your story is so similar to mine. And for that reason I can 100% relate to and empathize with your situation. I too had a elderly parent who was a major consideration for any choices that presented itself to me. And what made matters worse was the fact that I had siblings who were able but unwilling to help care for my darling mother as she aged, and had certain health concerns. So I did what any good son should do, I sacrificed and put my priorities and dreams last.
Looking back I wondered if it was possible to care for my parent while living my dream of moving abroad.
Have you asked yourself that question? Is it possible your parent would be willing to move to France with you for at least one or two years so you could enjoy the experience of living in Europe and do so while caring for your parent?
It could be the very thing that could put a bit of pep in both of your steps.
Looking back I'm pretty sure my mom would have agreed to spend time in France and her finances would have gained her the necessary Visa.
The reason I'm mentioning this as a option is because I recently read how an American expat just made this same decision. And it has worked out extremely well. In fact the elder parent became more alive living in a different country. It was like a answer to a prayer for mother and daughter.
I just wanted to pop in and say whatever choices you decide to make, you are not alone. All the very best with your own thoughts about moving to Europe.
